Books on Sale: Night Huntress Books 1-6 Today Only!

Book Halfway to the Grave - Cat the heroine is sitting on a grave in a thin strapped neglige and thigh high boots, her leg bent and next to her, with her arm behind her knee, and a knife stabbed into the ground in front of her ankle

RECOMMENDED: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is $1.99 today only – along with the other books in the series. Right now the price is good only at Amazon, but I'm leaving the other links in the event that the price matching fairies get funky.

This is the first book in the Cat & Bones/Night Huntress series, and I reviewed it back when it came out in 2007:

This nocturnal badassery comes to a screeching halt when Cat is kidnapped by an exceptionally strong nosferatu named Bones, who is really, really old, really, really strong, and really, really, really sure that Cat is working for someone, someone who wants him dead. When Cat, sure her end is about two seconds away, tells him the truth about her life and mission, Bones refuses to believe her, until Cat’s emotions get the better of her and her eyes glow green. Bones, who is not a dumbass after many hundreds of years of existence, makes her an offer: train with him, and work with him as a vampire bounty hunter, or die.

I really liked this book, especially the heroine.

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life.

Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership. In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad.

But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

  1. Dora says:

Neat! I own the first two books. I’ve only read the first one, and while I loved the two main characters, the whole thing felt rushed in that they were the only two that got any character development… even important characters like the heroine’s mother and grandparents, who were SO integral into shaping her into the person she is at the start of the story. So much of her personality is hung up on the way her family treats her that I would have liked to have seen more (or in some cases, any) interactions with them to really develop that conflict. I felt like it would have made me understand Cat better, and honestly it seemed like such a huge thing to just gloss over. (Especially her mother, who basically only shows up to be crazy from time to time.) That said, I still enjoyed it, so I picked up books three and four, and I’ll make book two my next read. (Slooooooowly working my way through Brandon Sanderson’s massive Words of Radiance, which I highly, HIGHLY recommend as a series to any fans of original fantasy worldbuilding.) Thanks!
