Books on Sale: Historicals from Kinsale, Milan, and More

Book Uncertain Magic

Fuchsia and mullet and I think she's wearing a shirt from Brooks Brothers?Uncertain Magic by Laura Kinsale is a Kindle Daily Deal today at .99c. I hope there's price matching at some point today, as I know many of you are building your digital Kinsale collection. This is an early book of hers, first published in 1987 (with a terrific cover, too.) It has a 3.5 star average, and may readers struggled with the repetition of the language and the angst, while others love the mystery and angst of it, especially as Faelan's point of view isn't revealed at all.

Roderica Delamore has a “gift.” Cursed with the unwanted ability to hear the thoughts of others, she is dedicated to raising her family's prize thoroughbreds and resigned to living without love. But one man's mind is inexplicably closed to her: a mysterious Irish rogue who may be the lover she has been dreaming of her entire life.

They call Faelan Savigar “the Devil Earl”—a handsome, impoverished lord damned by dark rumor and whispered innuendo. But the secrets Faelan hides within are what stir Roderica's desire—and her need to experience the intoxicating ecstasy of his kiss. But be he liar, swindler, or worse, Roderica knows she can have no other—and she will trust this enigmatic stranger with her life…and her heart.

Book Daring Miss Danvers

Daring Miss Danvers by Vivienne Lorret is $1.99. This is the start of her Wallflower Weddings series. The second book in the series, Winning Miss Wakefield, is on sale for $1.99 ( A | BN | K ) and the third book, Finding Miss McFarland, is available at $1.99 ( A | BN | K ), too. Though this historical romance plays a little fast and loose with dialogue accuracy, readers enjoyed getting their marriage of convenience catnip fix, and there are some surprisingly emotional scenes as the hero reveals his true character to the heroine. Emo tingles ahoy!

Oliver Goswick, Viscount Rathburn, needs money—and soon. With time ticking away and his inheritance held hostage until he's properly wed, Rathburn's slim options point to a single solution: a faux engagement. In need of the perfect bride, he knows of only one candidate: his best friend's wallflower sister. The plan seems flawless, except for one problem . . . He can't help falling in love with her.

Poised, polished Emma Danvers knows nothing good can come of Rathburn's scheme. Spending the next two months engaged in a mock courtship is not what she'd imagined for her final season. Yet, charmed by his roguish ways and the inexplicable hammering he causes in her heart, she accepts his challenge.

For Emma, keeping the secret seemed easy when it was just a game . . . But as Rathburn begins to see past her reserved exterior to the passionate woman within, the risk of losing her heart becomes all too real.

Book And Then He Kissed Her

And Then He Kissed Her by Laura Lee Guhrke is $1.99. This is a historical boss/secretary romance, where the hero, a viscount, is also a publisher, and his secretary, who is conveniently also the heroine, learns he hasn't been reading her submissions. This book has a 3.9-star average, and readers loved that the hero had to realize how much of a difference she made in his life once she left – plus, Emmaline was voted “Best Heroine” at AAR the year this book came out. Have you read this one?

Supremely sensible Emmaline Dove wishes to share her etiquette expertise with London's readers, and as secretary to Viscount Marlowe, Emma knows she's in the perfect position to make her dream come true. Marlowe might be a rake with a preference for can-can dancers and an aversion to matrimony, but he is also the city's leading publisher, and Emma is convinced he's her best chance to see her work in print…until she discovers the lying scoundrel has been rejecting her manuscripts without ever reading a single page!

As a publisher, Harry finds reading etiquette books akin to slow, painful torture. Besides, he can't believe his proper secretary has the passion to write anything worth reading. Then she has the nerve to call him a liar, and even resigns without notice, leaving his business in an uproar and his honor in question. Harry decides it's time to teach Miss Dove a few things that aren't proper. But when he kisses her, he discovers that his former secretary has more passion and fire than he'd ever imagined, for one luscious taste of her lips only leaves him hungry for more.

    Where’s the Milan book that you teased us with in the headline?
    Or did it turn out to not be on sale after all and you forgot to edit the header?
    This inquiring mind is curious…

    Again.  Two more books on my Kindle.  I need to quit reading these.  Is it clutter if it’s on the Kindle instead of my dining room table?

  5. Erin Burns says:

    A friend of mine was just telling me about Kinsale’s Uncertain Magic yesterday. But it’s showing up as 1.99 on amazon right now.

    @Barb in MD-

    My bad! I thought I’d found a sale but it was an old listing, and I forgot to change the title of the entry. Sorry!!

    @Shannon:

    Kindle clutter is totally fine. It’s like the clutter you hide in a cabinet: if you can’t see it, it’s not clutter.

    Also – I’m sorry for the price shifts, y’all. 🙁

  7. Erin Burns says:

    No worries, it happens. They are still decent deals even with the shifts. Kindle pricing shifts ridiculously fast.

  8. Brigid says:

    Yes. What is the lovely Milan you spoke of Sarah. Link please?!
