Books on Sale: Contemporaries with SEALs, Bodyguards, & Programmers

Book Love at First Sight

Love at First Sight by Lori Wilde is $3.99 at most vendors and $3.79 at Amazon. This is the first book in Wilde's Cupid, Texas, series. If you guessed that this is small town contemporary, you are totally right! Small warning: if you're expecting a cowboy, you might be a bit disappointed. Clearly the man on the cover is a Navy SEAL, as evidence by the…chaps. Despite that bit of cover confusion, readers enjoyed how the character development contributed the overall relationship between the hero and heroine.

From the author of the Twilight, Texas books comes the first in a dazzling new Cupid, Texas series. Lori Wilde welcomes us to Cupid, where every wish for love comes true…

Natalie McCleary couldn't believe her eyes-a lean-muscled, darkly tanned, nearly-naked man stood in her path…and then it hit her: love. Everyone always told her it'd hit like a thunderbolt, and she never believed them. But now she knew: practical, sensible Natalie was head over heels in love-with a stranger.

But ex-Navy SEAL Dade Vega wasn't about to be a stranger for long. He'd ridden into Cupid on his motorcycle, vowing to keep a promise he'd made to a military buddy. But a single glimpse at Natalie-soaking wet and unexpectedly tempting-changed his life forever.

But how can he offer her is love, when he can't even promise to stay in one place for longer than a week?

Book Feeling Hot

Feeling Hot by Elle Kennedy is 99c! This is book seven in her Out of Uniform series and is a contemporary erotic romance. I do believe there is some menage going on, if that happens to spark any fires. Readers enjoyed the Navy SEAL hero (yes, another one!) and his growth (non-sexually speaking) with the heroine, though some were immediately put off by his slut-shaming attitude. It holds an impressive 4.1-star rating on GR.

It's been a rough month for Navy SEAL Cash McCoy. Fresh off six months of celibacy during his deployment, he almost got into a hot blonde's panties before they were interrupted. Since then, he still hasn't gotten laid. The reason? He lost her number. And no other woman has replaced her face in his fantasies.

Then his CO asks him to keep an eye on his sister for a few weeks. Just until her psycho stalker ex is transferred. Cash's new houseguest is none other than the same gorgeous, quirky blonde. And just his luck-his orders include an emphatic “hands off.”

Jen Scott is having none of it. Now that she has a second chance, she's not letting Cash slip away. Orders be damned, he's the one man capable of helping her explore her sexuality. She's even willing to break her own rule-never date military men-to get the gorgeous SEAL into her bed.

Except Cash makes it clear he wants more than she bargained for. Much more. Not just her body, but the one thing she promised herself she'd never give to a man in uniform. Her heart.

Book Various States of Undress: Carolina

Various States of Undress: Carolina by Laura Simcox is 99c! This contemporary romance is the first book in the new Various States of Undress series, which came out earlier this summer. There's so much catnip going on here. A snowbound plot. The heroine is the daughter of the POTUS. The hero is a bodyguard. C'mon, it's almost a little unfair. While most reviews labeled this a quick, fun read, others mentioned that maybe it was a little too quick, especially when it came to the pacing of the relationship. Anyone read this one recently?

What happens when the president's daughter and her sexy Secret Service agent find themselves snowbound? A little cabin fever, some serious forbidden attraction, and Various States of Undress …

When Carolina Fulton, daughter of the President of the United States, dumps her cheating fiance, she knows she needs a break from life in Washington. Spending some quality alone time in her family's Wyoming cabin seems like a perfect escape–except for the hot Secret Service agent who shadows her every move. Miles away from civilization, Carolina quickly realizes that ignoring the smoky eyes, carved chin, and mile-wide pair of shoulders is going to require more than a little self-control.

Elite agent Jake Baxter knows better than to develop feelings for his clients. After all, he's not being paid to fantasize about running his fingers through Carolina's dark hair, kissing her senseless, or waking up next to her petite, curvy body. But as a blizzard rages outside their all-too-cozy cabin, Jake knows he has to put the freeze on this attraction, in case his job–or his heart–is suddenly laid on the line.

Book Something to Talk About

Something to Talk About by Dakota Cassidy is currently $2.99 at Amazon. Hopefully this sale will be matched, though I'm not above participating in a little ritual sacrifice for the price-matching gods. This is the second book in Cassidy's Plum Orchard series and it's a contemporary office romance. There seems to be some contention on whether or not this is erotica, so maybe one of our awesome readers can weigh in if they've read it. It has a 4.1-star rating on GR.

Emmeline Amos is sick of her ex saying she's boring and prissy. After all, she works for a phone-sex company! (As general manager, but still.) On a rare girls' night out, fueled by blender drinks and bravado, Em accepts a shocking dare—to handle a call herself. But it's tipsy Em who gets an earful from an irate single father on the other end of the line. Awkward.

But not as awkward as discovering that same mad dad is Call Girls' gorgeous new programmer. Jax Hawthorne is still upset that his daughter called the “girlfriend store” on his behalf, but he can't deny he'd choose a hot-librarian type like Em if he were looking for love. Which he's not.

Em wants to do more than just talk the talk. So she makes a bawdy bargain with Jax. They've both been burned before—this time, they'll keep it strictly physical. Except as soon as they settle on no strings attached, things start to get tangled.

  1. Celia Marsh says:

I started reading Various States of Undress after I got it the other day, and I’m liking it a lot.  I mean, we’re not talking Nobel Prize for Romance Novels quality, but it’s not annoying me, which is my bare minimum level for a .99 book.  It’s probably up to at least the expected quality of a 1.99 or maybe even 2.99 book.  (No one is yet TSTL, they talk to each other instead of holding stupid grudges, etc)

  2. Miranda says:

That’s quite a strategically placed knot on Love at First Sight 🙂

  3. EGS says:

Aw man, I’m a sucker for bodyguard stories.

  4. Helen says:

I absolutely loved the radio play of Neverwhere!  I highly recommend it!  🙂

  5. Jo says:

Sarah – just a FYI the Elle Kennedy links are for the Lori Wilde book.

  6. Amanda says:

@Jo: Fixed! Thanks for the catch!

  7. Emily says:

After reading Love at First Sight, I became quite a fan of the Cupid, Texas stories so far.  They’re sweet.  I really like the idea of a group of women responding to anonymous love letters.  And I’ve never been to west Texas, but I think I’d like to now.

  8. Sarah M. says:

The Dakota Cassidy series is fantastic! I wouldn’t consider it erotica. There are some sexy scenes, but it reads like a standard contemporary to me. The heroines work at a phone sex company, which is where the confusion may come from.  First comparison that popped into my head was Victoria Dahl.  The characters are great, and all the stories had me intermittently laughing and tearing up.
