Books on Sale: Contemporaries Ranging Across the Steam Scale

Book Hearts at Play

Hearts at Play by Melissa Foster is 99c! Released just last month, this is the ninth (Holy cow!) book in the Love in Bloom series and the sixth and final book in The Bradens series. With a Grand Prix racer as the hero, I'm getting some major flashbacks to Erin McCarthy's Fast Track series, which I totally love, by the way. Since the series is so long, some readers found they had to skim or reread previous books to fully enjoy this one, but it already has a 4.4-star rating on GR,

Brianna Heart has a six-year old daughter and a twelve-year plan to keep her life as simple as possible until Layla turns eighteen. That means swearing off relationships and the drama that goes along with them, working two jobs, and being the best damn mother she can be.

The last thing Capital Series Grand Prix racer Hugh Braden wants after dating media-hungry leggy models and money-hungry fan girls is a blind date. But how could he turn down a favor to one of his best friends? Hugh expected the date to go poorly, but he didn’t expect to be intensely attracted to the beautiful brown-eyed bartender who completely blows him off—and steals his every thought thereafter.

When Brianna’s perfectly orchestrated life turns upside down, Hugh is there to help, softening the turmoil, and maybe even rescuing her heart from the lonely place where it has been hiding. Can a man who doesn’t believe in fate and a woman who doesn’t believe in true love find happiness in each other’s arms forever?

Book If I Were You

If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones is $1.99! This contemporary romance leans more towards the erotic side and it's the first book in Jones' Inside Out series. Readers enjoyed the thread of mystery in the plot, but thought the heroine needed to get a backbone. Be forewarned that the first book ends on a cliffhanger, so if you're looking to stock up, books two, Being Me, ( A | BN | K ) and three, Revealing Us ( A | BN | K ), are also on sale for $2.99.

How It All Started…

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, all of which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

Book Hummingbird Lake

Hummingbird Lake by Emily March is $1.99! This is the second book in her contemporary romance Eternity Springs series. This is a small town romance set in a fictional Colorado town with a surgeon for a heroine. While some liked the sweet romance, others felt it was a little too G-rated for them. It currently holds a 4.1-star rating on GR. Anyone read this one?

Haunted by painful memories, pediatric surgeon Sage Anderson gives up medicine and moves to Eternity Springs. There she finds a place to call home, but even her newfound success as a gifted artist isn’t enough to keep her nightmares at bay. Colt Rafferty is about to change all that.

Eternity Springs is a refuge for Colt, a place to ground himself when the stress of investigating tragedies takes its toll. He has come here for a little R & R, but instead of relaxing, he finds himself fascinated by the mysterious redhead whose secrets beg to be discovered—a beauty running from her past, a heartsick woman in desperate need of the sweet sanctuary of a devoted man’s embrace. And he is just the man to show her the true path to peace—by offering her the healing power of love.

Book Riding High

Riding High by Vicki Lewis Thompson is 99c! Riding High is a contemporary category romance from Harlequin Blaze and is the fourteenth (yes, fourteenth) book in the long-standing Sons of Chance series. With a cowboy hero and a heroine who runs a horse sanctuary, this has Western written all over it, if the cover wasn't any indication. Though some found the pacing in the H/H's relationship to be a little too quick, most enjoyed the continuation of a favorite series.

There ain't a rider that can't be thrown. And large-animal veterinarian Regan O'Connelli was thrown hard when he discovered his fiancée with his best friend. Now he's starting his life over at the Last Chance Ranch, run by the tightly knit Chance clan. But damned if his libido hasn't perked up over the spirited redhead who looks a lot like trouble….

Lily King is the queen of anti-structure. Turns out, that makes running a horse sanctuary a challenge. Regan's help is exactly what Lily needs—not to mention the seriously sexy sparks that are flying between them. Now she just has to convince this fallen cowboy to dust himself off and get back in the saddle…and into her bed!

I have enjoyed reading the Eternity Springs series. There is a little bit of a woo-woo element in that town of Eternity Springs as it is a place of healing. I can understand how some readers would think the romance is a bit too G-rated. Emily March is an auto-buy for me because I really get wrapped up in the characters in her books and a little sweet romance never hurt nobody.
