I gave this book a B+ - and it is some funny, enjoyable contemporary romance. Just don't notice the fact that the guy on the cover looks a bit like a squished Hasselhoff. Go and get it. It's FREE for heaven's sake. You can get copies for other people. Don't make me come hit you with my Kindle.
When Keri Daniels's boss finds out she has previous carnal knowledge of reclusive bestselling author Joe Kowalski, she gives Keri a choice: get an interview or get a new job.
Joe's never forgotten the first girl to break his heart, so he's intrigued to hear Keri's back in town—and looking for him. He proposes an outrageous plan—for every day she survives with his family on their annual camping trip, Keri can ask one question.
The chemistry between Joe and Keri is as potent as the bug spray, but Joe's sister is out to avenge his broken heart, and Keri hasn't ridden an ATV since she was ten. Who knew a little blackmail, a whole lot of family and some sizzling romantic interludes could make Keri reconsider the old dream of Keri & Joe 2gether 4ever?
This book sale appears to only be valid at Amazon, even though other books on sale from the same publisher are reduced at all retailers. So this is Kindle-only and I am sorry. That said, Something Like Normal is $1.99, and holy crap does this book have strong reviews. I totally bought this after .02 seconds of pondering, and the part I read already is so powerful.
When Travis returns home from Afghanistan, his parents are splitting up, his brother's stolen his girlfriend and car, and the nightmares of his best friend getting killed keep him completely spooked. But when he runs into Harper, a girl who despises him for rumors Travis started back in middle school, life actually starts looking up.
And as he and Harper see more of each other, he falls deeper in love with her and begins to find his way through the family meltdown, the post-traumatic stress and the possibility of a interesting future. His sense of humor, sense of his own strength and incredible sense of honor make Travis an irresistible and eminently loveable hero in this fantastic and timely debut novel.
ETA: Heather had this to say about Something Like Normal and with her permission I'm adding her comment to this entry:
For any vets out there, especially of the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, "Something Like Normal" needs to come with a major warning label. I'm only 1/4th of the way through it, but I've been having a lot of things come to the surface because I can identify, in many ways, with the main character and the detachment he feels to his family and old life, as well as the struggle to not be 6,000 miles away all the time. So, any vets who choose to read this, take heed and don't read unless you're in a time and place where you can handle the emotions and memories this book will dredge up. Because it will.
And, via Heather, more things that are free! Harlequin's first book in the KISS line has been free for awhile:
NB: I've started calling the guy on the cover "Mr. Teeth Guy." He and his VERY WHITE TEETH are also on the cover of Shannon Stacey's All He Ever Desired. This book has some kickin' reviews and, also, it's Free!
Her first thought: "Who are you?" It's the morning after her cousin's bachelorette party in Vegas and Megan Scott wakes up with the mother of all hangovers. Even worse, she's in a stranger's penthouse having woken up with something else as well—a funny, arrogant, sexy…husband!
Up until now, finding even a boyfriend had seemed impossible—been there, got the broken heart, sworn off men for good. Then a few martinis with Carter…no, Connor Reed and she's gone from first meet to marriage in one night! Megan wants a lawyer. But Connor's shocking bombshell? "I don't want a divorce."
Plus, all the books in Harlequin's KISS line of "fun, flirty" contemporary romances are $1.99 for preorder right now - and I am presuming this is a limited time offer since they go on sale on 1 February digitally. Buy one! It'd be like giving yourself a present that'll surprise you in a couple of weeks. At least, that's what it's like for me because I always forget when I pre-order things and then it's a big happy "Oh, look!" moment when I turn on the Kindle.
Good job? Check. Newly purchased apartment? Tick.

Planning the most talked about wedding of the year is enough to make engineer Frith Taylor break out in a cold sweat. She's used to construction sites, not wedding fairs!

Southern debutante Vivienne LaBlanc can't believe bad-boy rock star Connor Mansfield is back in town for the New Orleans annual Saints and Sinners pageant. He has a reputation as wicked as his devilish smile, and Vivi has no intention of becoming one of his latest groupies! He once crushed her high school heart, so playing the saint to Connor's sinner should be easy.
But how can Vivi get those less than angelic thoughts out of her head—especially when Connor's so good at tempting her to be bad?

And so begins the Year of Georgia! Lurching from salsa classes to spy school, Georgia discovers a taste for adventure. Her biggest thrill so far? Flirting with danger—aka the enigmatic Zander.
