Faking it.  I’ll pontificate in detail after children go to bed, when I can watch the damn thing again (I saw it years ago).

Okay, completely faking it.  One doesn’t actually use a bull whip (without a shit load of experience).  One certainly doesn’t let one’s whipcrack drag on the ground like that—makes me shudder!  And she doesn’t know shit about that flogger, either.

Tell me! The first time I used a bullwhip on a person, which I was so not ready to do, I cut the guy. He didn’t mind it much, but it definitely was not what I’d intended. I didn’t handle one again for a really long time and to this day I’m not that comfortable with the thought of using it on a person.

I’ve used 3-4 foot single-tails, but I’ve seen those cut people up (consensually) so they scare the shit out of me and I’m all about practice practice practice with them.  So that bullwhip she’s got going is just ridiculous.  I can’t imagine the damage it would do.  Especially after being dragged around on the ground!

This is another example of something I mentioned in a blog post of mine a while back. BDSM seems to be popping up all over the mainstream these days.

I guess I’m noticing S&M;, BDSM D/s, whatever you want to call it, references everywhere now-a-days because our WIP is an Erotic Historical Romance in the vein of early Susan Johnson books and it has some Dominate elements in it. But honestly references are everywhere!

It’s on mainstream radio. Every hard rock station play’s Nickelback’s Figured You Out (I like your pants around your feet/and I like the dirt that’s on your knees/and I like the way you still say please/While you’re looking up at me/You’re like my favorite damn disease.) And now that it’s almost Christmas the local College station will start playing Judith Owen’s version of Spinal Tap’s Christmas with the Devil (The elves are dressed in leather and the angels are in chains).

TV too and not just skin-a-max and Late night on Oxygen. Two songs in the hour of VH1’s top 100 songs of the 80s I watched referenced S&M; the piece on Whip it by Devo of course but only to say it’s not about S&M;and in the piece on the only Depeche Mode song I don’t like, everyone interviewed talked about how much cooler the band got when they went all S&M;. Even a public service announcement on the V-chip features a Dominatrix. And don’t get me started on how uncomfortable it can be with the Dog Whisperer on TV if you’re just listening and not watching with all the constant talk of Dominance out of context. Whew.

Believe it or not I’ve noticed it at work. Once during a team “huddle” the assistant manager joked about someone needing a ball gag. Humm what does he do after hours in his Coach brand loafers?

OMG the other night at my daughter’s high school, I’m not joking.
One of the three one act plays by Tennessee Williams, 27 Wagons Full of Cotton, had a strong S&M;theme. The plantation owner carries a kind of whip and tells the tenant framer’s wife he bets she liked it when her husband bruised her arm and he bet she’d like it if he used his whip to swat the flies away hard. Then at the end after the wife has obviously slept with the plantation owner her reaction is not completely as if it was against her will. To which my own child said “I don’t like the way she played that, either she liked it or she didn’t she needed to decide” I need therapy after that conversation!

Where was I? Oh yea back to the thought that S&M;is popping up all over.

She’s had just enough instruction to throw a trick strike, one that’s far more akin to what you learn via rodeo tricks and circus techniques than BDSM realism.

I’m still waiting for a BDSM Romance cover showing a guy with actual whip marks on his back. Sorta mantitty reverse.
