Sarah, have you (or anyone else) checked out any of those Chase titles put out by NYLA (her agent)?
Just wondering if they’re the OCR error/typo nightmare that a lot of the titles they’ve been putting out are said to be.

I haven’t read the Chase NYLA titles but last month’s book club, Indigo, by Beverly Jenkins, was a NYLA title, and it was ok from my reading. I hadn’t heard there were OCR errors in the Chase titles! What a bummer.
My Wicked Fantasy by Karen Ranney was a DNF for me. Pretty awful; I would not recommend.
Kobo does not seem to have any of the Chase books listed except Lord of Scoundrels.
I absolutely HATE IT when I try to enter a promo code on Kobo only to be told “Due to publisher’s restriction, promo codes are not allowed”. Fine then, I won’t buy the book at all! Instead of the publisher getting my $6 for a $9, they get nothing. Smart move guys…
Completely agree chantalhab, Kobo have really annoyed me with this. I keep getting promotional codes, go and find a a book I want, then get the ‘publisher’s restriction’ message. It makes me leave the site and contemplate piracy, it does not make me buy the book. Is there a way (short of not buying the books) that we can influence publishers to be reasonable with ebooks? I don’t know if this is a uniquely Australian problem or if it is international.
Catrionafitx, it’s not just Kobo. All the big New York publishing houses do this and it’s the same no matter where you purchase an ebook. It’s called Agency Pricing. The publisher sets the price of the book, the amount that the bookseller gets for each sale and the bookseller is restricted from discounting the price; only the publisher can discount an ebook. If the bookseller doesn’t agree to the agency pricing model, then they can’t sell the books. The only publishers I know for sure that don’t do agency pricing are Harlequin and Kensington.
In the US, there’s a class action suit again Apple and the US Publishers (Steve Jobs went to the publishers with the Agency Pricing model idea when he launched iBooks). I think the European Union is suing the publishers as well.
