49. An Interview with Erin Galloway

This week, Sarah chats with Erin Galloway, Associate Director of Publicity and Marketing at Penguin, and someone Sarah and Jane have worked with for years. Erin was one of the first publicists to reach out to bloggers to establish working relationships – and she's a genuinely enthusiastic fan of romance, too.

In this interview, Sarah and Erin chat about the difference between publicity, marketing, and promotion – they are, in fact, different! Erin loves romance, and loves the books she reads for her job.

Erin shares some of the books that she's working on for summer 2013 from Penguin, and we talk about new genres in romance, too.

Here are the books we talk about during this podcast:

Book Bared To You Sylvia Day Book Rush Maya Banks Book Fever Maya Banks

Book Burn Maya Banks Book Beth Kery Because You Are Mine Book Turn and Burn Lorelei James

Book Cover Book Kristen Ashley - Wild Man

This podcast interview grew out of the fact that Penguin is the sponsor of the podcast for the next few months!

    Fun interview.

Not sure Erin will have an answer, but the main thing I want to know about Penguin is when will their books will be coupon & loyalty program eligible again at places like Sony, All Romance eBooks, Kobo, etc. I have a ton of new-to-me Penguin authors on my to buy list, but cannot justify spending $7.99 on their books with my limited book budget. Not asking to get these books for free, but I would certainly buy more if I could get them with coupons. (I have bought my favorite autobuy authors at agency price levels, but that does eat up the budget quickly on big release months :P)

I would also like to know if there are any new, upcoming romantic suspense or straight contemporary authors/series Erin is excited about.

I’m playing catch-up with my podcasts and I had such a Driveway Moment with this one today!

I especially appreciated your discussion of the big differences between marketing and publicity/PR. It seems that so many people can’t grasp how distinct they are.

Great stuff, I’m looking forward to hearing more from Erin in the future!
