2011 Gift Guide: Volume 1!
by SB Sarah | by SB Sarah | December 08, 2011 | Thursday at 12:20 am | 49 Comments
Time for a few 2011 holiday gift guides, with items selected or suggested by me, and by readers of the site. I collect links and ideas all year, so get ready. There will be a few editions of the gift guide!
First: from reader Alex, a whole STORE on Etsy of literary quote jewelry, from cuffs to earrings and necklaces. JezebelCharms has quotes from Austen, Bronte, Shakespeare - there's way too much to choose from.
This edition is full of silly and fun apparel - and some techy gifts at the end.
Terry Odell sent me a link to a tshirt she loves at Signals - which is funny because I'd already marked a different shirt at Signals to feature here. Terri loves the Ask Me About my Book shirt, while I totally love love love the Lowood Institution Lacrosse shirt - the write up of the shirt is hilarious, too.
And while I'm shopping for shirts at Signals, the "A book in my hand and a dog by my side… we belong together" shirt is adorable.
I gave someone a set of these a few years ago - and they are really beautiful. These bracelets are made out of piano wire, and you can get them with or without words on them. You get a set of 12.
You could lose about six years of your productive time in the WhatOnEarth catalog, but no worries. I found something that every romance hero needs: The Kilt Beach Towel. No, no, the men in your life don't need to thank me.
For your next book club gathering: More Book Club Please.
For those who still write by hand - this would make an amazing portable desk.
In the Practical but Kinda Neat department, I found this keyboard shelf while looking for a desk accessory and fell in total lust with it.It has three USB ports in the side, an iPhone charge slot in the back, and it's clear so you can put the keyboard underneath and put books or reference materials on top. There's a cup holder, too, and it's not a disk drive either!
This is a bit expensive, for what it is, but I immediately thought of three people who would love this: the electric pajama warmer pocket. Put your jammies (or socks or whatever) and 10-15 minutes later, all warmed up.

And finally - a silly gift that made me smile -- and I have some to give away here!
Check out the adorable YAY! Reading! Magnet.
Isn't it cute? There are YAY! magnets for just about everything - but I have two YAY! Reading! magnets to give away here. Just leave a comment in the next 24 hours to enter to win.
Standard annoying disclaimers apply: I'm not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Winner must be 18 years of age or older and dancing a jig. Coffee, please. Remove tag before using.
And if you have gift guide suggestions or a store you love and would want me to feature, please email me at sarahATsmartbitchestrashybooksDOTcom with "Gift Guide" in the subject line. Thanks! Happy giving!

I bet Jane Eyre was a badass goalie.

My favorite way to give people presents is to go to Half Priced and get books in genres they like that I would want to read. It’s win-win!

YAY! Free stuff!

Having a voracious 12-y-o reader, these links are very helpful. Thanks.

I never had a chance to thank you for last year’s gift link to a Pittsburgh Steeler’s hammer. I figured it was an expensive (and kind of junkie) stocking stuffer but it turned out to be excellent quality and made my son laugh. So thank you late!
My friend’s husband will be the (embarrassed) recipient of the kilt towel for his next birthday.

Thanks Sarah, This is always a favorite for me. All of your suggestions are great gift ideas. When will the follow up gift guides be posted?

I love the Lowood shirt. I’m buying that right this minute for my niece the lacrosse player and adding a copy of Jane Eyre to it.

The Lowood shirt made me laugh out loud when I got my Signals catalog. I may still get it for myself. I told my adult sons they could buy me a particular book I wanted, or the diamond tiara I deserve for my fine mothering skills. Their choice.

I liked the t-shirt from Signals that said “In my novel, I’m plotting against you.”

OMG! I love the kilt towel.
As a engineer and romance nerd, can I also recommend Think Geek (thinkgeek.com)? It is awesome. I so want this tshirt: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshir…

Gifts guides by writers or for writer/readers are great. I just keep emailing them to the hubs so I don’t have to buy my own present! Thanks for the list!

I love the gift ideas! I’m pretty sure that I saw the Bag Ladies Tea on this site
http://bagladiestea.com/
They are the ones with the Novel Teas, but I really like the teacher ones, as a tea lover and a soon to graduate middle school teacher!

No Sarah, not even the Steelers could get me to spend that much on a hammer, lol! This http://tiny.cc/qtnbh:

My brothers keeping bugging me for gift ideas, so I’m just telling them to come consult this gift guide. How can they know me this long and not know that anything related to reading or where people belong on the bell curve would get the six year old girl squeal out of me.

Also, I apparently can’t spell magnet. I keep typing “magnut.” FYI

I love the piano wire bracelets and my mom would adore them. She plays and I’m always looking for musical themed things for her. Also all the reading things are wonderful, as a librarian they make me grin.
