Keeper Shelf: The Carlisle Series (Truth and Measure & Above All Things) by Roslyn Sinclair

Truth and Measure

Tara: When this duology was announced two years ago, I was not okay. I’ve been equal parts terrified and thrilled since then, because my favourite fanfic of all time was being turned into original fiction. Could it hold up? Truth and Measure is THE definitive Mirandy (Devil Wears Prada [DWP]) fic in a still-thriving fandom. I’ve probably read it a dozen times in the last 5 years and I’ve often referenced it as one of … Continue reading Keeper Shelf: The Carlisle Series (Truth and Measure & Above All Things) by Roslyn Sinclair

The X Ingredient by Roslyn Sinclair

The X Ingredient

This book is not going to be for everyone because it’s an erotic romance with a boss/employee scenario, although if that pairing is your jam, you will almost certainly love it. I totally understand and respect that not everyone is comfortable with that power dynamic in fiction. Personally, I like it, and I particularly enjoyed how this book handles it because it addresses and challenges that dynamic head on, rather than brushing past it (more … Continue reading The X Ingredient by Roslyn Sinclair

What Are Your Annual Re-Reads?

A cute adorable kitten wearing glasses reading a book

I know many romance readers are also ritual re-readers, with books they re-read or seek out at different times of year. Some folks read The Hogfather every holiday season, for example. Other people re-read a specific book once a year, but the timing is more flexible, and might be whenever the mood strikes them. Yeah, sorry about that earworm, 80s and 90s children. I found this comic from The Awkward Yeti while meandering around the internet, and I could not save it to my phone fast enough: Like I said, saved to my phone immediately. Then I asked the SBTB crew, “What was the last book you read that took you out of the real world?” Elyse: For me it was Our Crooked Hearts (I have a review for this … Continue reading Books Take You Away…to Another World

Whatcha Reading? April 2022, Part One

Cup of coffee and yarn for knitting on plaid with books close-up

It’s that time again! We want to hear all about what you’re reading! Susan: I’m reading Roslyn Sinclair’s Truth and Measure and I am incredibly resentful of every commitment I have that keeps me from reading more. The ice queen just woke her assistant up at 5am to talk about their (totally hidden, super platonic) feelings, and my bosses expect to do my job instead of screeching about that?! Tara: Susan, it’s soooooo freaking good … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? April 2022, Part One
