Books on Sale: Love Irresistibly by Julie James & More

RECOMMENDED LIKE HOLY SMOKING WHOA: Love Irresistibly by Julie James is $1.99 right now. Just… if you like contemporary romance with very smart, very competent heroines who are professionally capable and emotionally and intellectually savvy, you will like this book. It has a 4+ star average on GoodReads, it was a DABWAHA nominee, and it was a two-time RT award winner.

One of my favorite things about this book is that part of the conflict rests on the characters’ jobs, but also on how incredibly busy they are, and how difficult it is to fit a personal life into a busy work life. It sounds so dull when I type it out like that, but even so, I really, really liked this book.

Review: Copper King by Vivian Arend

Review: Copper King by Vivian Arend

I’m beginning to think that maybe novellas aren’t for me. Copper King started off as something that’d be right up my catnip alley. Billionaires in Vegas, bear shifters, a no strings attached arrangement that turns into something more. Yes, please. I’ll take two! For a quick rundown, Jim Halcyon, is in Vegas for an annual competition. He and his friend, Damon, have a yearly contest and the winner gets to keep a lucky coin they … Continue reading Review: Copper King by Vivian Arend

High Risk by Vivian Arend

High Risk by Vivian Arend

High Risk by Vivian Arend is a romance that defies sub-genre. It’s like I’m trying to categorize it and the book is standing up yelling, “I’mma do what I want!” I found it while looking for romantic suspense, but it’s not that. It’s sort of erotic-contemporary-action romance with bondage and amnesia (words that could only otherwise be used to describe Lindsay Lohan’s weekend plans). The book is the first in the Lifeline series, focusing on … Continue reading High Risk by Vivian Arend

Wolf Nip by Vivian Arend

Wolf Nip by Vivian Arend

I'm looking at the shifter genre like a swim-starved beachgoer who is pretty sure the ocean is too cold to go in, but dips a toe anyway. I kind of miss the paranormal genre, especially shifters. I don't love the insta-love and the fated pair mating with the twitching cocks, but I've read most paranormal romance from the perspective that it explores our relationship with rage, out of control anger, and fear, especially of the … Continue reading Wolf Nip by Vivian Arend

Rocky Mountain Desire by Vivian Arend

Rocky Mountain Desire by Vivian Arend

I said out loud twice while reading this book, “This is the least erotic erotic romance. No one's having any sex.” Hubby thought I was nuts, but while the story was friendly and sometimes very sweet, there was not much erotic content, in my opinion. If you're looking for explicitness, this is not the Canadian equivalent of small-town, large-family cowboy erotic romance (Lorelei James, for example). I liked this book, but I was expecting erotic … Continue reading Rocky Mountain Desire by Vivian Arend

Stacks of colorful books next to a shopping cart

There are two things that you need to know about me at the moment. I’ve never done a reading challenge in my life. I’m in a comfortable, if stuck, reading rut. Cover Snark: Riverside Weightlifting

Grab yourself a hot cup of Cover Snark! Amanda: Excuse me? What? Sarah: But I see two nips. Shouldn’t it be Wolf Nips? WAIT. Is Dr. Nips a shifter?! That is a terrific potential story right there. (Also: Vivian Arend writes really fun shifter stories, and often plays with the tropes.) No, definitely two nipples there. CarrieS: I see no way that title can work. Ever. Elyse: It’s the Dr. Nips Halloween special. Amanda: There’s … Continue reading Cover Snark: Riverside Weightlifting

RWA 2015: A Sleepy, Non Chronological Wrap Up

Featured image for RWA 2015: A Sleepy, Non Chronological Wrap Up

It is a truth universally known by introverts that an introvert in the midst of a four-day conference must be in want of an isolation booth. I mean, I was. At a certain point, I reach maximum introvert stimulation levels and my brain stops using words correctly. Or giving them to my mouth in the right order. It’s embarrassing, but it’s standard operating procedure, so I’m used to it – and I know I’m not … Continue reading RWA 2015: A Sleepy, Non Chronological Wrap Up
