Content warning: attempted sexual assault of the heroine Heiress in Red Silk is a book that hooked right into my emotions and gave me what I wanted and needed from a story right now. While it was by no means a flawless romance, I adored the heroine, and there was one scene that hit me straight in the heart. This is the second book in the Duke’s Heiress series, but you really don’t need to … Continue reading Heiress in Red Silk by Madeline Hunter →
Triggers: Minerva is the survivor of an abusive relationship, and while there are no flashbacks, her trauma is well drawn. One character also witnessed/was complicit in a suicide and it’s fairly disturbing to read about. There is also attempted sexual assault of the heroine. Heiress for Hire is, on the face of it, a proper Regency romp. We have two lively and intelligent protagonists, a large quantity of plot, plenty of humour, Dark Secrets, and … Continue reading Heiress for Hire by Madeline Hunter →
RECOMMENDED: We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia is $1.99! This is a YA fantasy novel and Elyse gave this one a perfect grade. That’s right, it earned an A and it’s on sale:
The bottom line is, We Set the Dark on Fire has elements that I love–women coming together to dismantle the patriarchy, rebellion, secret affairs, and it’s written so superbly that I found myself relishing every chapter. There’s always an element of danger, of being found out, hovering in the background that carried a wonderful tension through the entire novel.

Madeline Hunter is a talented writer, but this novella did not work for me at all. Adam Prescott, the Baron of Thornhill, is kidnapped by a mysterious lady and gentleman after he briefly exits a mail coach on his way to his cousin’s home for Christmas. He’s held at gunpoint and carried off to a mysterious estate. Caroline’s animosity and kidnapping bewilders Adam, but he is nonetheless attracted to her. Because falling in love with … Continue reading A Christmas Abduction by Madeline Hunter →
Once More, My Darling Rogue by Lorraine Heath is $2.99. This is book two in the Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James trilogy, and I believe the first book is also on sale! This book has a 3.8-star average, and readers who liked it say the whole series is terrific. However, some didn’t enjoy the characters as much as the ones in the first book.

Indiscreet by Mary Balogh is $2.99! This is the first book in the Horseman Trilogy. Readers call this a “fluffy Regency” and found the romance to be pretty darn sweet. However, sound found the romance a bit slow going at times. This is also a rerelease, as the original book was published in 1997.
