  • The Leopard King

The Leopard King by Ann Aguirre

The Leopard King by Ann Aguirre is $2.99! This is the first book in her paranormal romance series, Ars Numina. Readers loved the emotions the hero and heroine experienced, but some wished there was a bit more information about the world and setting. The next three books in the series are also $2.99 each.

    Proud. Imperious. Impassioned.

Until three years ago, those words applied to Dominic Asher, the leader of Ash Valley. His family has ruled the feline branch of the Animari for hundreds of years, guiding the pride through perilous times. Unspeakable loss drove him into seclusion, a feral beast nobody can tame. Now he’s wrecked, a leopard king in exile, and he wants nothing more than to die.

    Fierce. Loyal. Determined.

Fortunately for Dom, those words still apply to Pru Bristow, his dead mate’s best friend. She’s had her heart broken too, but she never quits. With the conclave approaching, alliances with the Pine Ridge pack and Burnt Amber clans on the verge of collapse, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to drag their leader back, before his second can start a war.

At best theirs seems like a desperate alliance, but when their mate bond turns hot and fierce, there’s no end to the questions and the doubts. Neither of them expects to fall in love. But sometimes people don’t know what they’re looking for until they find it.

  • Prisoner of the Crown

Prisoner of the Crown by Jeffe Kennedy

Prisoner of the Crown by Jeffe Kennedy is $1.99! This is the first book in The Chronicles of Dasnaria and came out last week. Reviews mention that this is a rather dark fantasy with no romance in this installment. Also, be prepared for it to start slowly. I’m very interested in this! Are you?

She was raised to be beautiful, nothing more. And then the rules changed . . .

In icy Dasnaria, rival realm to the Twelve Kingdoms, a woman’s role is to give pleasure, produce heirs, and question nothing. But a plot to overthrow the emperor depends on the fate of his eldest daughter. And the treachery at its heart will change more than one carefully limited life . . .

    THE GILDED CAGE
Princess Jenna has been raised in supreme luxury—and ignorance. Within the sweet-scented, golden confines of the palace seraglio, she’s never seen the sun, or a man, or even learned her numbers. But she’s been schooled enough in the paths to a woman’s power. When her betrothal is announced, she’s ready to begin the machinations that her mother promises will take Jenna from ornament to queen.

But the man named as Jenna’s husband is no innocent to be cozened or prince to charm. He’s a monster in human form, and the horrors of life under his thumb are clear within moments of her wedding vows. If Jenna is to live, she must somehow break free—and for one born to a soft prison, the way to cold, hard freedom will be a dangerous path indeed…

  • Simply Sexual

    Simply Sexual by Kate Pearce

Simply Sexual by Kate Pearce is $1.99! I’d like to issue a TRIGGER WARNING as the hero in this erotic romance used to be a sex slave for a period of time. The book also has more of a historical setting than the other romances featured today. Readers frequently commented on the wtf-ery of the book, but most found that to be a good thing. This is also the first book in the House of Pleasure series.

Surrender to page-turning sensuality in the explosive first book in Kate Pearce’s House of Pleasure series. . .

    Sexual Satisfaction

Ten years as a sex slave in a Turkish brothel left Lord Valentin Sokorvsky with an insatiable appetite for sex. Now the time has come for him to marry, but finding a woman who can satisfy his lustful desires proves a challenge. . .until he meets Sara and all he can think about is having her lie under his rock-hard body, begging him to taste and touch her. . .

    Sensual Seduction

Sara Harrison knows she should be shocked and scandalized by Lord Sokorvsky’s bold advances, but instead she is secretly aroused by this sensual, seductive man. For beneath her calm and composed manner is a wanton woman who longs for a man’s intimate caress. She is most willing to be educated in the art of sensuality, to receive and give pleasure and to succumb to the wild desire that knows no limits. . .

  • Kim Harrison Hollows Bundle #1

Kim Harrison Hollows Bundle #1 by Kim Harrison

The Kim Harrison Hollows Bundle #1 is $3.99! This bundle collects books 1-4 in the Hollows urban fantasy series. I remember this one was super popular in the early-ish 2000s along with other similar series from authors like Jeaniene Frost, early Laurell K. Hamilton, & more. Were you a fan?

Get the first four novels in Kim Harrison’s #1 New York Times bestselling Hollows series as one e-book! This bundle includes Dead Witch Walking, The Good, the Bad, and the Undead, Every Which Way But Dead, and A Fistful of Charms. Discover this great series at a special price!

    Dead Witch Walking

All the creatures of the night gather in “the Hollows” of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party … and to feed. Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining — and it’s Rachel Morgan’sjob to keep that world civilized. A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she’ll bring ’em back alive, dead … or undead.

The Good, the Bad, and the Undead

It’s a tough life for witch Rachel Morgan, sexy, independent bounty hunter, prowling the darkest shadows of downtown Cincinnati for criminal creatures of the night. She can handle the leather-clad vamps and even tangle with a cunning demon or two. But a serial killer who feeds on the experts in the most dangerous kind of black magic is definitely pressing the limits. Confronting an ancient, implacable evil is more than just child’s play — and this time, Rachel will be lucky to escape with her very soul.

    Every Which Way But Dead

Rachel Morgan’s back! Bestselling author Kim Harrison returns with a new supernatural adventure that fans of Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris won’t want to miss. Some days, you just can’t win. Witch and former bounty hunter Rachel Morgan’s managed to escape her corrupt company, survive living with a vampire, start her own runner service, and face down a vampire master. But her vampire roommate Ivy is off the wagon, her human boyfriend Nick is out of town indefinitely and doesn’t sound like he’s coming back while the far-too-seductive vampire Kisten is looking way too tempting, and there’s a turf war erupting in Cincinnati’s underworld. And there’s a greater evil still. To put the vampire master behind bars and save her family, Rachel made a desperate bargain and now there’s hell to pay—literally. For if Rachel cannot stop him, the archdemon Algaliarept will pull her into the sorcerous ever-after to forfeit her soul as his slave. Forever.

    A Fistful of Charms

The evil night things that prowl Cincinnati despise witch and bounty hunter Rachel Morgan. Her new reputation for the dark arts is turning human and undead heads alike with the intent to possess, bed, and kill her — not necessarily in that order. Now a mortal lover who abandoned Rachel has returned, haunted by his secret past. And there are those who covet what Nick possesses — savage beasts willing to destroy the Hollows and everyone in it if necessary. Forced to keep a low profile or eternally suffer the wrath of a vengeful demon, Rachel must nevertheless act quickly. For the pack is gathering for the first time in millennia to ravage and to rule. And suddenly more than Rachel’s soul is at stake.

  1. Alexandra says:

I read the Rachel Morgan books when they were first coming out and I ended up stopping after having to wait 4-6 months for the next release bc there is SO MUCH going on in each book. The cast of characters was HUGE and it felt like there was too much to remember.

I think I’m going to try again though. I love pnr and am always on the lookout for something that makes me feel the way Kate Daniels and Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series make me feel.

  2. Laurel says:

I love paranormal & urban fantasy, so I really wanted to love the Kim Harrison Hollows series, but I just couldn’t get into it. I bought a bunch of them when they were on sale and I barely finished the first one. Now the others stare at me from my “owned but not yet read list” on Goodreads when I am looking for something to read. The one drawback of ebooks is I can’t give them to someone else, so they just sit there, giving me book guilt.

  3. MirandaB says:

I tried to read Harrison a couple of times, but I couldn’t stand Rachel Morgan: I’m so feisty! I’m so powerful! I’m so cute in my bustier! Rules just don’t apply to me! She and the Kelley Armstrong Otherworld series turned me off paranormal for years. I like other KA now (LOVE Rockton!) but I always hated Chance.

  4. Ms. M says:

The Harrison illustration reminded me when I brought one of her paperbacks into my classes when I was substitute teaching (hey, there can be a lot of downtime subbing). One of the kids saw the cover and periodically accused me of reading porn throughout the class. There’s something to be said for e-reading.

  5. Karen H says:

I’m torn about the Rachel Morgan series. I’ve read many of them and fell off somewhere along the way. The conflict in them seem to cause me stress in a way that other books do not. I enjoy and dread them at the same time.

  6. Jessi says:

I just read The Leopard King and liked it, but I definitely did keep checking to make sure it was the first in a series – it definitely did seem at times like there had been another book (or a short story, or an entire separate series set in the same world) that explained the setting. You don’t really absolutely have to understand the setup to enjoy the characters, and the book eventually gives some explanations about halfway through, but I certainly did have that “did I miss something?” feeling a few times.

  7. Tam says:

I liked a few of the Rachel Morgan books, but at the point the author started rehabilitating a character who threatened rape amongst his arsenal of nastiness, she lost me. Just no.

  8. Elizabeth says:

I loved the Hollows series when the books came out, but in the last year I re-read it from the beginning and finally caught up (I’d before stopped around book 7 or 8). Rachel Morgan’s character is very “ooh I’m so tough and badass,” while also being vulnerable in weird ways, and that was fine for me but annoys others. My problem with the series is the earlier books haven’t aged well. Rachel’s got a subtext of homophobia happening in her narrative (and don’t even get me started on how she describes her Asian-American friend’s appearance). It wasn’t something I noticed back when I first read them, but in this recent read-through, it SUPER bothered me. What was interesting was watching that problematic narrative slowly minimized/erased as an element as the series went on, as if the author (and/or her editors) finally figured things out.

  9. Laura says:

There’s a lot for me to unpack about Simply Sexual. The cover is super hot but I won’t read it and I really appreciate the trigger warning. I don’t have many but non-consensual sex enslavement is one of 3. It’s also an interesting premise with an aim to set a standard trope on its ear and despite it making me shudder; I applaud the author’s imagination an attempt. I hope I’m wrong about the plot but it SEEMS to make a horribly wrong assumption that men don’t suffer sexual trauma. And I’m also throwing a lot of assumptions at a book I’ve not–nor will I ever–read.because one reader’s catnip is another reader’s trigger. I’m sure someone who will love this book would think I’m kinky and sick AF because I think the sex scenes between Kingston and Father Soren (Tiffany Reisz’ The Mistress series) are as hot as a Louisville sidewalk in July.

Ok ok I’ll get off my soapbox inna sec: if a man you know or love has been a victim of sexual abuse or assault this is a good place to start the healing journey https://1in6.org/ Thanks for daily providing me with a diverse selection of books.

  10. Star says:

I read the Simply series. I don’t know that I enjoyed it, exactly, and there were a lot of things that bothered me about it, but it was certainly imaginative and had a lot of wtfery that… idk, didn’t quite appeal to me exactly but made me curious about what on earth she was going to do next. And some of it was pretty damn hot. I would never read it again, but I’m not sorry I read it the first time. This series is not nearly as batshit bonkers as Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty series (and the books get less bonkers as the series goes on), but it operates on logic from a similar solar system, if that makes sense?

The blurb for this one is not exactly misleading, but it doesn’t do a great job of expressing the totality of what’s going on, in that:

@Laura The point of the book (and a few of the others in the series) actually IS that men suffer sexual trauma. I am… dramatically dubious about the author’s approach to healing the trauma, shall we say, both in this book and in all the others, and also dubious about some aspects of the depiction of trauma (these books are seriously wacko and nothing makes much sense when it comes down to it), but Valentin was completely traumatised and one of the major plot points is that he’s been trying to ignore it and Sara wants to make him face it. So while her handling of the whole thing has a very strong “only in a porno” vibe, she does take the fact of the existence of sexual trauma in men seriously.

  11. Laura says:

@star oh geez I forgot about Sleeping Beauty! Rice set the bar for bonkers and wtf with those books. LOL But given your explanation now I want to read this book. Thank you for your graceful acceptance of my assumptions. In cases like this I love being wrong.

  12. Star says:

@Laura – You’re welcome! Glad to be useful. I really feel like whoever wrote that blurb doesen’t prepare the reader for what they’re in for. This series does need approximately a thousand caveats, so definitely manage your expectations going in. I’ve never read anything else quite like it though.
