  • Roar

    Roar by Cora Carmack

    UPDATE: Deal no longer valid.

Roar by Cora Carmack is $2.99! This is a YA fantasy with romance, royalty, and magic. This is also a Kindle Daily Deal that is being price-matched. Do check out the other deals today, as Poldark is also on sale, as well as subsequent books. I think there’s a bit of a cliffhanger, though I’m not 100% positive.

New York Times bestselling author Cora Carmack’s young adult debut: Roar.

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

  • Sunshine

    Sunshine by Robin McKinley

Sunshine by Robin McKinley is $1.99! McKinley has been recommended several times at SBTB HQ. Some readers label this as young adult and, for the most part, I’d agree with that sentiment. According to reviews on Goodreads, there were complaints about the balance of narrative to action, but many loved this different take on the vampire story. I know many of you have read this one, so let us know in the comments whether you loved it or hated it!

“Her feet are already bleeding – if you like feet…”

There are places in the world where darkness rules, where it’s unwise to walk. Sunshine knew that. But there hadn’t been any trouble out at the lake for years, and she needed a place to be alone for a while.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t alone. She never heard them coming. Of course you don’t, when they’re vampires.

They took her clothes and sneakers. They dressed her in a long red gown. And they shackled her to the wall of an abandoned mansion – within easy reach of a figure stirring in the moonlight.

She knows that he is a vampire. She knows that she’s to be his dinner, and that when he is finished with her, she will be dead. Yet, as dawn breaks, she finds that he has not attempted to harm her. And now it is he who needs her to help him survive the day…

  • Keepsake

    Keepsake by Sarina Bowen

Keepsake by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is the third book in the True North series, which comes highly recommended. Though be warned, this book does seem to have two characters who have experienced serious forms of trauma. Also, some reviews mention the hero a beta hero and a virgin. CATNIP! For those familiar with the series, what do you think?

There’s a first time for everything.

Lark Wainright used to be fearless. Her life was a series of adventures, each one more exhilarating than the last. But her recent overseas adventure was one too many. Now she’s home and in one piece. Mostly. But her nights are filled with terror.

When her best friend offers her a stay at the orchard in exchange for help at the farmers’ markets, Lark jumps at the chance to spend fall in Vermont. But her nightmares don’t stop. Desperate to keep her fragile state a secret, she relies on the most soft-spoken resident of the Shipley Farm to soothe her when her dreams prove too much.

Zachariah is a survivor, too. It’s been four years since he was tossed aside by the polygamist cult where he grew up. He’s found a peaceful existence on the Shipley’s farm, picking apples and fixing machinery. But getting thrown away by your own people at nineteen leaves a mark on a guy. He doesn’t always know what to make of a world where movie quotes are the primary means of communication. Before hitchhiking to Vermont, he’d never watched TV or spoken on the phone.

Actually, there are a lot of things he’s never done.

Zach and Lark slowly grow to trust one another. One night they become even closer than they’d planned. But Lark may still be too broken to trust anyone. When she pushes Zach away, he will have to prove to himself that he’s good for much more than farm labor.

  • Wild & Sweet

Wild & Sweet by Rhenna Morgan

    UPDATE: Deal no longer valid.

Wild & Sweet by Rhenna Morgan is 99c! This is the second book in the Haven Brotherhood series and has a blue collar, mechanic heroine, which is something you don’t see too often! Readers said this was a great new-to-them author and that the main characters had great chemistry. However, some took issue with the doctor hero’s ambiguous behavior.

Live hard, f*ck harder and make their own rules. Those are the cornerstones the six Men of Haven bleed by: taking what they want, always watching each other’s backs, and loving the women they claim with unyielding tenderness and fierce passion.

Zeke Dugan is not a man who walks the straight and narrow. He may have sworn an oath as a trauma doc, but he has zero problem leveraging his medical skills outside a hospital if it means giving his family an advantage. Blood before business. All that changes when shy Gabrielle stumbles into his life.

Mechanic Gabrielle Parker prefers the complexities of an engine over men. Her life wasn’t always quiet and well-ordered, but now that it is, she finds peace in the solitude. When a robbery in her neighborhood forces her out of her safe bubble, she never fathoms that a dangerous, cocky trauma doctor will fix more than her injuries.

Zeke doesn’t play by the rules but is exactly what Gabrielle needs in her life. He’ll show her the fierce and uncompromising protection that comes from belonging to a man like him. No one will hurt his woman, even if it means putting the very men who saved his life at risk.

  1. Katie Lynn says:

Keepsake is a great book, I’ve been meaning to reread it since the new one in the series just came out a few days ago. They’re pretty much standalones, this one in particular, and it’s a bit heavier subject than the other books.

Sunshine is one of my favorite McKinleys, I highly recommend it.

  2. Jenn says:

Keepsake is a steal at 99€. It’s a must read.

  3. Mel S. says:

Keepsake is a absolute bargain at .99! I’m a huge Sarina fan to begin with and her True North series is one of my favorites.

  4. Amy says:

Anything by Sarina Bowen is a great read. Keepsake is such a moving, thought provoking book. Definitely a steal at .99c!

  5. Judy says:

Keepsake is definitely a go and get it right now at $.99! You will be going to get the others as soon as your are finished Keepsake no matter what their prices are. Yes it’s that good!

  6. TAM says:

Sunshine is amazing! & I also enjoyed the Sarina Bowen.

  7. melissa says:

I loved Roar by Cora Carmack. Yes, it has a bit of a cliffhanger but its the start of a promising series so its great to have a deal on the first book.
Keepsake is a definitely a bargain at .99 It is part of a series but could be read as a standalone. Sarina’s books are kinda like Oreo cookies though, you can’t just read just one. The best part of these deals for audio book lovers like me is that you can add the audible at a discounted price after buying these for Kindle. These books were good to listen to.

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

KEEPSAKE is a great book—virgin hero for those who enjoy that catnip, but even if not, it’s still a good book. KEEPSAKE is the third book in the TRUE NORTH series; BOUNTIFUL, the fourth book, was just released last week.

  9. Lora says:

About Sunshine….I liked it, and I love McKinley, but it either needed a sequel or it needed a resolution that made sense. I adore her writing, but, for me (ymmv) her more recent books tend to go off the rails in the last act. This one started strong and had terrific pacing and great tension that…never went anywhere. So if you’re hoping for romance…well, nope.

  10. MsCellanie says:

I loved Sunshine the first time I read it. I looked at it again more recently – and I can see the problems, but I still like it very much. But it feels like part 1 of something. There’s beginning and middle and more middle and then there are no more words, but it isn’t exactly an end.

It’s well worth $1.99 – the characters are good, the world building is interesting, the writing is lovely. But, it isn’t a romance and you may be left wanting to find the sequel that doesn’t exist.

  11. Bem says:

Keepsake is so, so good! (All the True North books are!) I’m looking forward to reading the latest in the series (Bountiful).

  12. oceanjasper says:

I’m a dissenting voice here. I liked Keepsake, but I was expecting it to be a more emotional read. I loved Zach, but Lark wasn’t as interesting, yet her issues took over the book. I felt that the author didn’t make the most of such a unique hero. (I had the same reaction to the previous book Steadfast. Jude’s pathway to happiness in that book was less emotional than the setup had led me to expect.) Maybe I hold Bowen to higher standards than some other authors because I so much enjoyed my first experience with her Ivy League books…?

  13. Jessica says:

These all sound quite good! I have heard of only one of them so I’m pretty stoked to give the others a go!

  14. Texas Book Lover says:

I’m jumping on the True North bandwagon…I absolutely love the enter series! Grab them up on sale when you can. Their fun emotional reads but I got one think they are much more enjoyable read in order.

  15. I really don’t think I would rank Sunshine as YA. It starts out with a YA-type tone, MC reflecting on how her family drives her crazy, but some of the later scenes seem a bit more mature in tone. I enjoyed it but at the same time the tangents that McKinley went off on (were-skunks!) were both entertaining and distracting.
And yeah, I think pretty much the only person who didn’t want a sequel is the author herself 🙂

  16. The Other Kate says:

Sunshine is one of those books I can get completely lost in. The heroine has lots of agency, and while the book isn’t exactly a traditional romantic HEA, I love how it develops her character through the finale. One of my keeper shelf books that I’ve reread probably six times.

Also liked Roar by Cora Carmack. It does end by setting up the next book, but – yay! – there will be another book! So don’t be deterred by the cliffhanger.

And speaking of Roar/weather magic . . . The next book in C. L. Wilson’s Weathermages of Mystral series comes out on Halloween! I’ve been waiting for this for almost two and a half years! SQUEEE!

  17. Gennywren says:

I loved Sunshine, despite the aggravating ending, and it stands as one of my favorite vampire novels. I believe McKinley once said that she won’t ever force herself to write sequels. If it comes to her, then she’ll write it. So I suppose we’d best hope that one day she finds the inspiration.

  18. Another Kate says:

Thank you for alerting me to Keepsake – it had been on my Amazon wish list since finishing the other two books in the series, waiting for a sale : )

  19. Karenza says:

I am not a YA fan but I loved Sunshine and while I am also not a fan of stories that go on and on – I would have killed for a sequel.
I started reading Sunshine on a 30 hr flight back from US to Sri Lanka and was reading the last bit in the boarding area of my final connection (I was cosily tucked behind a large plant) when I realised I was sitting in total quietness. Looked up to see the personnel closing the gate and I think I totally traumatised them by jumping up and racing to the gate waiving my pass in one hand and Sunshine in the other and yelling “Wait, wait”
The point of the story was that the book was just that good 🙂

  20. k8899 says:

I didn’t mind the ending of Sunshine, though would welcome a sequel. I disagree about it being YA in tone, and with a ~25yo protag would it even qualify technically?

  21. Hazel says:

Young Adult, New Adult: I’m sure I’ve asked before, but I still don’t get it. What do these labels mean?

I liked Sunshine a great deal, and thought it was the best vampire story I’d read. It never occurred to me that it was meant for children or teenagers.

( I also assumed there’d be a sequel and was disappointed to find there wasn’t one. Everybody else seemed to be writing trilogies, didn’t they?)

    I think I may go re-read it now! 🙂

  22. Joy says:

Absolutely loved Sunshine! There’s some terrific world building going on in it and I think THAT is why people complained about the ending. They want more, lots more, of this world and the relationships of these people.

I’m not sure though that I want a part 2 and part 3. Real life doesn’t come with neatly wrapped up relationships and magic fixes of everything. It had a “happy ending” where a lot of things were resolved, the heroine and hero/vampire seem to grow and the bad guys get theirs. But, it felt real cause everything wasn’t tied up with a bow. Its a keeper for me and I have re-read it at least twice.

  23. Kitty says:

Keepsake is a COMPLETE steal at 99cents! Not only is this a great series, but written by one of the best authors. She has a way of capturing emotion, making you feel like you are there, and savoring every page.

Trust me you will love it!!

  24. Nancy C says:

I love Sarina Bowen’s True North series, and Keepsake is my favorite so far! I like that Lark’s trauma isn’t what you would find in most stories, and the difference is actually mentioned because the assumptions would be incorrect. Also, this is a contemporary male adult virgin who has a believable reason for being so.

Now I need to read Bountiful!

  25. Paula says:

Keepsake is one of my all-time favorites. I love everything about it.
