Paranormal Romances on Sale

  • Three Wishes

    Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley

Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley is $2.99! This is a romance with a paranormal/fantasy element in the form of a genie, though judging by the reviews, the hero ISN’T the genie. Bummer. However, other felt the actual hero was a rather ambiguous figure with a criminal background, but they say his redemption arc is worth it.

When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Even with a genie, Lily’s young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).

He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.

Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.

Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.

  • All Bets Are On

All Bets Are On by Cynthia Cooke

All Bets Are On by Cynthia Cooke is 99c! This paranormal romance sounds kind of fun, as the Prince of Hell tackles online dating. Readers recommended this to fans of paranormal romance who prefer things on the lighter side, though others thought the ending was a bit rushed. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

The Prince of Hell needs to get laid. Well, according to his minions, anyway. Now Derek Wescott, ruler of the Eighth Level of Hell, has been set up on an online date. And worse still, his minions are placing bets that Derek won’t be able to entice the sweet yet plain Jaclyn Reynolds into bed before midnight. But Derek has no intention of losing the bet. Not now. Not ever.

Jaclyn, on the other hand, is in danger of losing everything. The charity she runs is in trouble, and she is desperate for cash. The moment she sees her absolutely gorgeous—and insanely wealthy—date, she knows she’s in way over her head. She also knows his type all too well, and it will be a cold day in Hell before she ever gets into his bed. Yet Derek offers her a friendly wager: he’ll give $10,000 to her charity if she can resist him.

The wagers have been set. The game has begun. And Derek will do just about anything to ensure that Jaclyn is completely—and infernally—his

  • Eternal Darkness

    Eternal Darkness by Stacy Reid

Eternal Darkness by Stacy Reid is 99c at Amazon! This paranormal romance is the first book in The Amagarians series and the description has some heavy Amanda catnip. Normally, Reid writes historical romance, but fans seemed to enjoy this departure. But, some felt the ending could have been better thought out. Have you read this one?

    The darkest taste of temptation…

Fleeing from a blood oath made against her will to a man known in the seven realms as the tyrant king, the last place Princess Saieke Shyokara, expected to be trapped was in the Darkage, the land of the feared shadowed demons. Even worse, she’s stuck with Archduke Drac EL Kyn, a Darkan–a creature of darkness and sensuality, who entices her with passion, intrigue, and danger. The only thing she needs from the fierce warrior is his body to further her own plot…certainly not the dangerously irresistibly desire he rouses.

As one of the deadliest shadow assassins of his realm, Drac must use his skills to unearth the factions who murdered his king. Drawn by an irresistible hunger to the princess, he struggles to maintain distance from a woman who is utterly forbidden to those of his race. Yet, as she navigates the treacherous schemes and traps laid for her by the kingdoms of the seven realms, Drac must decide if he will claim Saieke as his mate, or will he relinquish this woman, who stirs in him the darkest hunger he’s ever known, to avoid embroiling his kingdom in war…

  • King of Darkness

King of Darkness by Elisabeth Staab

King of Darkness by Elisabeth Staab is $1.99! This is the first book in the Chronicles of Yavn paranormal romance series and features vampires and fated mates. Some readers mention that the main characters get together rather quickly, while others liked the twist on the typical vampire romance novel.

ETERNAL COMMITMENT IS NOT ON HER AGENDA…

Scorned by the vampire community for her lack of power, Isabel Anthony lives a carefree existence masquerading as human-although drifting through the debauched human nightlife, she prefers the patrons’ blood to other indulgences. But when she meets the sexy, arrogant king of the vampires, this party-girl’s life turns dark and dangerous.

BUT TIME’S RUNNING OUT FOR THE KING OF THE VAMPIRES…

Dead-set on finding the prophesied mate who will unlock his fiery powers, Thad Morgan must find his queen before their race is destroyed. Their enemies are gaining ground, and Thad needs his powers to unite his subjects. But when his search leads him to the defiant Isabel, he wonders if fate had gotten it seriously wrong…

  1. Amy S. says:

Passionflix just announced that they have optioned Three Wishes so read it before you watch it!

  2. ClaireC says:

Seriously read the last book as the first in the Chronicles of YaRn series and was both very excited and confused! It’s been a while since I read a good vampire book, so I might have to give this one a try.

Does anyone know how Kristen Ashley’s paranormals compare to her contemporaries? I feel like this is an unpopular opinion, but I can’t stand her contemporaries, and have DNF’d more than one for repetitive dialogue, alpha-hole heroes, and descriptions that never end (seriously, don’t care how the heroine brushes her teeth!). I did read the first in the Fantasyland series, but DNF’d the second.

However, I usually do like to read the book before I see the movie! (Am very excited for the Jill Shalvis book the Passionflix adapted, not in the least because puppies and cats!)

  3. Herberta says:

The Prince of Hell is named Derek?

  4. Ren Benton says:

This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Any book that plays the “we treat our slave like family” card is a hard no for me.

  5. KateB says:

I don’t know if this is common knowledge yet, but a bunch of Mary Stewart’s gothic romances are now available as ebooks and they’re all really cheap. I’ve been wanting to read “Nine Coaches Waiting” FOREVER and it’s finally here for $0.99!

  6. PlantLady says:

@ClaireC You are not alone! I loathe Kristen Ashley’s contemporaries (never read her paranormals, didn’t even know she wrote them) for all the reasons you list and then some!

  7. Hope says:

@KateB – I bought them ALL! Less than $20. And the cover art is so pretty!

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@ClaireC and PlantLady: I hate to pile on, but I’ve tried several Kristen Ashley books and have found it impossible to get into any of them. I always try to give a writer a few chances before giving up on them because even the best writers produce a dud once in a while, but after the fourth time I jotted “dull & badly-written” next to an Ashley title in my book journal, I knew I’d tried my last Ashley.

  9. Rose says:

@Herberta Right? Derek Wescott sells me on Head Boy of Eton more than Lord of Darkness. Though I would be intrigued if he were both.

  10. KateB says:

@Hope – the covers remind me off those 1930’s train/travel ad posters!

  11. Judy W. says:

I’ve enjoyed a *few* Ashley books but her hero’s are interchangeable. They are all super alpha with lots of grunting and monosyllables for dialogue and they always give a cutie nickname to the heroine. Like “duchess”. They also drop their “g”s so the conversations has a lot of nothin, feelin, and doin. So frustrating. You should never read her books back to back because of this.

  12. CelineB says:

@KateB or anyone else, I had already bought Nine Coaches Waiting and wasn’t sure what else I should buy from her. Any recommendations for ones I just have to read?

  13. No, the Other Anne says:

@CelineB Airs Above the Ground and The Ivy Tree are particular favorites. I also love Touch Not the Cat. Really you can’t go wrong with anything Mary Stewart, though!

And @KateB THANK YOU!!!!! I’ve been stalking used bookstores trying to find her titles, and you can’t even find them there anymore. I stupidly culled my own hoard during a fit of downsizing a few years ago, and sorely miss my ancient copy of Touch Not the Cat.

  14. miniglik says:

Judy W: I was waiting for you to drop in “so frustratin’.”

  15. Vicki says:

I think my favorite might be The Ivy Tree. Currently re-reading MoonSpinners, the book is better than the movie. Gosh, I read all of these between eight and 13 years old, did not get all the sub-text and still loved them. Love them all now, too.

  16. Another Kate says:

@KateB – This week, I picked up all of the Mary Stewart’s that I didn’t already have paper copies of. Someone mentioned the sale on here, and I was happy to discover the same price at amazon.ca. I’m looking forward to re-reading some of the titles I haven’t read since high school. And I’m so excited for your first read of Nine Coaches Waiting – it is probably my very favourite of all her books.

  17. Quidnunc says:

King of Darkness is showing at $6.99 on iTunes, so it isn’t on sale there.

  18. Quidnunc says:

Oh – but King of Darkness is available on Kindle Unlimited

  19. Hazel says:

Nine Coaches Waiting, Touch Not the Cat and Madam, Will You Talk? (my personal favourite) are 99p at Amazon UK. Several of the others are £1.99/£2.99.

    I am so tempted……

  20. PamG says:

Personally, I favor This Rough Magic and back in the day, when I first read Mary Stewart, I loved Wildfire at Midnight. Her later romantic suspense–post Touch Not the Cat–seemed a little bland to me, but the rest of it was golden.

  21. Hope says:

My faves: My Brother Michael, Wildfire at Midnight, Madam Will You Talk?, Airs Above the Ground. I second PamG with later novels being not nearly as good as the earlier ones. I hate to say this, but in spots they are actually kind of awful. Like the one where the heroine is a scifi author who is writing a book about a secret civilization on the other side of the sun. ????

  22. Deborah says:

Is there a name for the trope in King of Darkness where the overlooked individual turns out to be the key to everything? That is, assuming the scorned Isabel is in fact “the prophesied mate who will unlock [vampire king Thad’s] fiery powers”? Because it gives me a strong Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer vibe, and there has to be a better label.

Yes, that’s right. The king of the vampires is named Thad. He and Derek, prince of hell, were probably frat brothers.

  23. HeatherS says:

I’ve been wanting to read “Thornyhold” for a bit – maybe I heard mention of it in a review here as a favorite? Can’t remember, but I’m going to read the sample and see how it goes.

Also, thanks to the page ads, I was reminded that I do want to read “His Perfect Partner” (Latina heroine, woo!).

  24. Jesara says:

I have enjoyed some of the books recommended here so much – for instance I read both “The Blue Castle” and the Miss Buncle book after seeing them recommended here – so I went right over and bought some Mary Stewart who I hadn’t heard of before. I got “Touch Not the Cat”, “The Ivy Tree”, “Nine Coaches Waiting” and “ This Rough Magic”. Four books for $5.00! And the cover art is so wonderful

  25. Ren Benton says:

@Deborah: I have plans today and therefore dare not venture to the land of TV Tropes in search of specifics, but I know there’s one called–brace yourself–“All of the Other Reindeer.”

  26. Deborah says:

@Ren – thanks! My sympathy re: TV Tropes. I go to look up one itty bitty factoid re: Gentlemen and Scholars, and the next thing I know it’s 2 in the morning and I know everything there is to know about Flynning in the Star Wars movie franchise.

  27. Ren Benton says:

@Deborah: …and your computer crashes because you have 500 tabs open because it’s impossible to follow one link and leave the rest on any page unexplored…

I’m convinced TV Tropes is the beta version of the Matrix. All it’s missing is a hardware update to suck the juice out of you while you’re entranced.

  28. Kate M says:

OMG I can finally add all the Mary Stewart books to my Kindle. I love them so much and have re-read them multiple times. *buys all of them*

  29. Empress of Blandings says:

Hmmm. Thad. That would make the seductive forces of darkness a bit easier to resist.
Sexy bad boy (SBB): I am the prince of your dark desires.
Self: *is strangely drawn to SBB*
SBB: Come to me, for I will fulfill your deepest wishes.
    Self: I must have you!”
SBB: I knew it! For who can resist Thad…
Self: Ummm, I just have to have my dog’s toenails clipped. Just popping off.
    SBB: What…?
    Self: Bye Thad.
    SBB: But…!
    Self: BYE THAD. GOODBYE.
