Book Club August Selection: Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai

And now, for some utterly not surprising news: our August Smart Bitches Book Club selection is Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai!

We oohed and aahed over the series’ covers and Redheadedgirl gave the book an A grade, recommending a big glass of wine or a rich pint of ice cream to pair with your reading experience.

In fact, describing the book sounds like I’m describing some really tempting wine: it’s sexy and emotionally complex, with nearly perfect moments of honesty and self-care, plus body art drawn with Sharpies.

RHG also did some squeeing:

This is the book that I was most excited to get at RT. When people saw that it was out in the wild, the most inhuman noises were made, and it was worth all of those noises.

ALL OF THEM.

So much angst. So much pathos. EVERYTHING HAPPENS SO MUCH.

Hate to Want You was a top pick for Apple and Amazon in July, and received a starred review in Kirkus as well. We’re not the only ones squeeing, is what I’m saying here.

If the book hasn’t been lurking on your TBR list, here’s its description:

One night. No one will know.

That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pasts-and the last names that made them enemies.

Until the night she didn’t show up.

Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesn’t have time for distractions and Livvy’s sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. She’s the one woman he shouldn’t want…so why can’t he forget how right she feels in his bed?

Livvy didn’t come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presence–and their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families.

Being together might be against all the rules…but being apart is impossible.

Hate to Want You is definitely available at online vendors ( A | BN | K | AB ). It also might be available digitally or on audiobook through Overdrive at your local library.

We’ll update you on when the Book Club Chat will occur once we nail down a date and time. Until then, I hope you enjoy this book as much as we have!

UPDATE: Join us Wednesday, August 30 from 8:00pm – 9:30pm EST!

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/library-extension/chkgcmmjoejpekoegkedcpifgfhpjmec?hl=en is the library extension for Chrome. I use it in Amazon, but it may work for other online bookstores too. If your library is on the list, then when you look up a book, the extension pops up and tells you if your library has it in physical and/or electronic format plus has a hold button that takes you directly to your library account, and that book so you can place a hold on it! It is awesome

@giddypony — oh, that’s so cool! Thanks for the tip. 🙂

Perfect timing! I’m currently reading this and it deserves all the praise!

I never preorder books, but I preordered this one. I was actually awake at midnight when it delivered and it was PAINFUL to leave it be so I could actually get some sleep. I tried to read it slow and savor it, but I killed it in 36 hours. I LOVED it. One of my fave reads of the year so far, can’t wait to chat about it!!!

  7. Michelle says:

Finished it last night. I CANNOT wait to be able to talk to all of you about it! Wow.

  8. I have been seeing this everywhere (OMG I LOVE DAT COVER!) & hearing peeps LOVE it everywhere. But from what I can tell, it’s a 2nd chance romance, which is the only trope I won’t read.

BUT! I love participating in the bookclub. Every book has been epic good so far. But I hate this trope. I AM SO CONFLICTED DO YOU SEE MY PROBLEM?
