Contemporaries by Shalvis, Ashley, & More

Books on Sale: Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley & More

Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley is 99c! That’s right, less than a dollar! This is a contemporary romance and the second book in the Colorado Mountain series. The heroine moves to a small Colorado town for a fresh start after her husband is caught cheating. Readers adored the hero, Tate, and his transition from grizzled ex-cop to considerate protector. A few reviews on GoodReads also mentioned that Ashley’s writing style took some time to get used it. Sweet Dreams has a 4.4-star rating on GoodReads.

This American Life on Trolls

This American Life from WBEZ

Trigger warning for rape, rape jokes, trolls, rape joking trolls, and general asshattery. The most recent episode of This American Life, a Chicago Public Radio program, has blown my mind so much, I think my brain is six sizes larger for having listened to it. Episode 545. If you don’t have anything nice to say, SAY IT IN ALL CAPS is worth listening to, I think, though again, trigger warnings like whoa. First, writer Lindy … Continue reading This American Life on Trolls

Romance with Suspenseful Elements – and a Terrific Avon Coupon

Books on Sale: Next of Kin by Sharon Sala & More

Next of Kin by Sharon Sala is $2.99! This romantic suspense is book one in the Rebel Ridge series. The heroine is in the witness protection program, but after being discovered by the people from which she’s supposed to be hiding, she heads home to backwoods of Kentucky for safety. Many readers caution that it’s heavy on the suspense and a little lighter on the romance, but others loved the fact that the hero & heroine were childhood sweethearts, which I’m sure is catnip for some. It has a 3.9-star rating on GoodReads.

Books on Sale: Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder & More

RECOMMENDED: Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder is $3.99 at Amazon and Google Play (seriously, are those price matching fairies in a battle until the end of time?). Amanda recommends this book vigorously, saying she loved it so much she’s bummed it’s not matched at more vendors.

This book has a 4+ star average, and is the first book in the Poison series. It’s a mix of fantasy, adventure and mystery, and readers who loved it connected instantly with the heroine, Yelena.

Book Review

Drowning Mermaids by Nadia Scrieva

Drowning Mermaids

So apparently, in addition to being the Knitter in Residence here at SBTB, I am also the the aquatic romance reviewer. When Amanda sent me a book about a mermaid stripper, you know I had to read that, right? It’s as crazy-sauce as I could have hoped. The book is about Aazuria, a mermaid princess  who lived in an undersea ice palace and who is now destitute after her murdering her dad. To be fair, her … Continue reading Drowning Mermaids by Nadia Scrieva

Two Kinsale Audiobooks, $6.95 and a Laurens for $1.99

Books on Sale: Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale & More

RECOMMENDED: Flowers from the Storm by Laura Kinsale is part of the $6.95 Audible sale this week. This unabridged audiobook is performed by Nicholas Boulton. You may have heard his voice when he recorded personal greetings for the winners of different Kinsale audiobook giveaways.

Every one I know who has listened to this book as narrated by Boulton, and I’m not exaggerating here, has raved about it. Sometimes they didn’t even use consonants- just a long stream of vowels and gasping. It’s that good.

Tender is the Storm by Johanna Lindsey

Tender is the Storm

So I started reading this because someone who shall remain nameless but who’s name rhymes with D-Ellie posted the original cover art, which involves titty-fucking basically and I had to read it. What better way to get back into the Old School Groove than to read me some crazysauce Lindsey? Spoiler: there’s no actual titty-fucking in this book. So we start with the introduction of Slade Holt, who’s been living with the Apache since his … Continue reading Tender is the Storm by Johanna Lindsey

So all this week, we’re celebrating with two giveaways each day – ten in all (see my elite math skills there? I double checked them, too) – until Saturday. Over on the right, we … Continue reading 10th Anniversary Giveaway Celebration: Part 1

The Librarians Episode 10: And the Loom of Fate

The Librarians Poster

There’s a very strange opening in which Eve wakes up smiling at a bloody hand – this will presumably make sense later.  She snaps to full consciousness and finds herself fighting a bunch of mummies, along with The Scoobies.  They are all working well as a team and hey – here’s Flynn, who told everyone to meet him at the pyramid but failed to mention mummies or the medallions which they wear (remove the medallions and … Continue reading The Librarians Episode 10: And the Loom of Fate

The Librarians Episode 9: And the City of Light

The Librarians Poster

In the teaser, an adorable ufologist (I love that word) named Victor is killed, creepily, by townspeople (or is he?).  At the Annex, Jenkins says that UFOs do not exist.  The Scoobies point out that Santa, fairy tales, and haunted houses are real, so why not UFOs?  But Jenkins is adamant about this.  The Librarians are off to the town to investigate.  The immediately split up. Jesus, splitting up again?  I know it’s efficient, but … Continue reading The Librarians Episode 9: And the City of Light

Whatcha Reading: January ’15 Edition

Book with a field and a road on the pages against a blue cloudy sky

Time to talk about what we’re reading, and to begin buying more books than we could ever hope to read, right? Right! Currently I’m reading a book that was a recent Kindle Daily Deal. I think I bought it at about 6 in the morning, before I had my glasses on and before I’d ingested caffeine. My impulse control is weak first thing in the morning. It’s called The Paper Magician, and it’s the first of what … Continue reading Whatcha Reading: January ’15 Edition
