  • Emerald Blaze

    Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews

RECOMMENDED: Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews is $2.99! This is book six in the Hidden Legacy series and book two in Catalina’s story arc, so reading out of order isn’t advised. However, if you’ve been waiting for it to go on sale or eventually collect them all digital, now is your chance!

Ilona Andrews, #1 New York Times bestselling author, continues her spellbinding series set in the Hidden Legacy world where magic controls everything…except the hearts of those who wield it.

As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powers—powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control. Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.

The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won’t rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that’s tearing their world apart.

  • Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake

Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall

RECOMMENDED: Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall is $2.99! Carrie and I jointly reviewed this one and agreed on a B+. As a bisexual woman, I definitely felt seen by this book and I’m here for all the 2021 baking romance reads.

Fans of Casey McQuiston, Christina Lauren, and Abby Jimenez will love this scrumptious and sweet romantic comedy from the “dizzyingly talented writer” of Boyfriend Material (Entertainment Weekly)!

Following the recipe is the key to a successful bake. Rosaline Palmer has always lived by those rules—well, except for when she dropped out of college to raise her daughter, Amelie. Now, with a paycheck as useful as greaseproof paper and a house crumbling faster than biscuits in tea, she’s teetering on the edge of financial disaster. But where there’s a whisk there’s a way . . . and Rosaline has just landed a spot on the nation’s most beloved baking show.

Winning the prize money would give her daughter the life she deserves—and Rosaline is determined to stick to the instructions. However, more than collapsing trifles stand between Rosaline and sweet, sweet victory.  Suave, well-educated, and parent-approved Alain Pope knows all the right moves to sweep her off her feet, but it’s shy electrician Harry Dobson who makes Rosaline question her long-held beliefs—about herself, her family, and her desires.

Rosaline fears falling for Harry is a guaranteed recipe for disaster. Yet as the competition—and the ovens—heat up, Rosaline starts to realize the most delicious bakes come from the heart.

  • Honey Girl

    Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

RECOMMENDED: Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers is $2.99! Tara read this and gave it an A-. She obviously love it, but did say this:

First thing first: Honey Girl is not a romance. That said, it has a very strong, swoonworthy romantic element to it.

A refreshingly timely and relatable debut novel about a young woman whose life plans fall apart when she meets her wife.

With her newly completed PhD in astronomy in hand, twenty-eight-year-old Grace Porter goes on a girls’ trip to Vegas to celebrate. She’s a straight A, work-through-the-summer certified high achiever. She is not the kind of person who goes to Vegas and gets drunkenly married to a woman whose name she doesn’t know…until she does exactly that.

This one moment of departure from her stern ex-military father’s plans for her life has Grace wondering why she doesn’t feel more fulfilled from completing her degree. Staggering under the weight of her father’s expectations, a struggling job market and feelings of burnout, Grace flees her home in Portland for a summer in New York with the wife she barely knows.

In New York, she’s able to ignore all the annoying questions about her future plans and falls hard for her creative and beautiful wife, Yuki Yamamoto. But when reality comes crashing in, Grace must face what she’s been running from all along—the fears that make us human, the family scars that need to heal and the longing for connection, especially when navigating the messiness of adulthood.

  • The Kingmaker Chronicles Complete Set

The Kingmaker Chronicles Complete Set by Amanda Bouchet

The Kingmaker Chronicles Complete Set by Amanda Bouchet is $2.99! It collects the complete Kingmaker Chronicles series. I really loved this series; you can read my review of the first book here. However, there are other readers who didn’t enjoy it. Definitely check out the discussion in the comments to see if it’s your bag! I believe Bouchet is continuing the books with a new couple and I’m so jazzed.

The complete USA Today bestselling trilogy The Kingmaker Chronicles!

KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER…BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT

    A Promise of Fire
Catalia “Cat” Fisa lives disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus. She is perfectly content avoiding the danger and destiny the Gods—and her homicidal mother—have saddled her with. That is, until Griffin, an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south, fixes her with his steely gaze and upsets her illusion of safety forever. Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker, the woman who divines the truth through lies. He wants her as a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm—until he realizes he wants her for much more than her magic.

    Breath of Fire
The heart-racing Kingmaker Chronicles continues in this second book. The Gods are telling Cat that she’s the new Origin, which means it’s her job to give Thalyria a fresh start. Running from her fate isn’t going to work anymore; fate caught up. Griffin crowned her with the symbols of the three realms…and if she’s supposed to be not just a queen but the Queen, she’d better start acting like it.

    Heart on Fire
The riveting conclusion, Cat needs to learn how to trust in the Gods, in Griffin, and mostly in herself if she’s going to unite the kingdoms and rule Thalyria like her destiny calls. That’s when true understanding thuds into place. Hope isn’t just an abstract concept; it’s her. She has the power of the Gods at her fingertips. The only thing ever stopping her has been Cat herself.

REPEAT by Kylie Scott is a 99¢ KDD

  2. HeatherS says:

All of the books in the Kingmaker Chronicles have such fantastic covers.

  3. LisaM says:

My library has all three of the Kingmaker books. I decided to check them out, because I’m trying to break my habit of buying ebooks and then letting them pile up unread.

  4. Hannah Bloom says:

INCENSE AND SENSIBILITY by Sonali Dev is $2.99. It’s the third in the Rajes series. Not sure if it’s gone on sale before.

  5. Patricia says:

If you have audible both Honey Girl and Rosaline Palmer are in their Black Friday sale.

  6. Ele says:

I just picked up Emerald Blaze–it is the 5th in a series, and unlike many urban fantasy series, I actually remembered the plots and characters of the earlier ones. Lots of interesting strong women characters, strong family bonds and very strange magic. Definitely a worthwhile series for urban fantasy buffs.

Rosalie Palmer Take the Cake is a nice snack for those of us who are in mourning because the BakeOff season is over. Good writing. Good bakes. The MC is bisexual which is mentioned often in the book, but curiously all of her sexual interest seems to be focused on men (whom she inexplicably describes as “boys” quite often despite all of them being 30ish). But other than that she’s a really well-drawn character and there are lots of great side characters and lots of laughs.

The Amanda Bouchet series, well, I lost interest about half-way through book two. Good world-building but eventually the heroine just irritated me one too many times.

  7. Amanda says:

@Ele: Just as a note from a bisexual person, having a sexual attraction more toward one identifying gender isn’t uncommon. Some bi/pan folks have different romantic and sexual attractions. It’s not any sort of equal split. If I remember correctly, Rosaline’s ex-girlfriend is a prominent character in the book though.

  8. Ele says:

@Amanda: As another bisexual person, I know that. As a reader of romantic fiction, I had an expectation that it would be portrayed a bit differently. But truly, it is not like there is a right or wrong way to be bisexual! I do think some aspects were done wonderfully in the book–In particular, how the MC was treated as curiousity by some and (not to give away too much of the plot) exploited by a heterosexual man as something of a commodity. As for the romantic attachment between women being somewhat lacking, it occurs to me that this is by an author who generally writes about people who are attracted to men, so I guess it is not that surprising that the attraction here is focused on men.

  9. Julia says:

The final book in Bouchet’s series is a terrible let down. Book 1 is tremendous and book 2 is solid but BOY she didn’t stick the landing, which makes me nervous for book 3 in her current series to be honest.
