  • The Engagement Game

The Engagement Game by Jenny Holiday

The Engagement Game by Jenny Holiday is 99c! This is part of the 49th Floor series and can be read on its own. I follow Molly O’Keefe on Goodreads and she gave this one five stars for the book being “clever and sexy.” I will admit though that the hero (based from the description) sounds like a jerk. Have you read this one? What did you think?

The black sheep of the old-money Rosemanns, advertising executive Marcus has made his own way in the world—and done extremely well for himself—but his family is still pressuring him to join their investment firm and settle down with a quiet, unobjectionable girl.

Which is why the sexy Rose Verma is the perfect date for his family’s charity ball. A bleeding-heart lefty from the wrong side of the tracks, Rose has never met a stray dog she didn’t love or a polka-dotted mini-dress she couldn’t rock. Marcus has enough dirt on Rose to “convince” her to play along. And if he lets it slip that they’re engaged, all the better.

But all’s fair in love and blackmail, and Rose is ready to play a few cards of her own…

  • Wed to a Spy

Wed to a Spy by Sharon Cullen

Wed to a Spy by Sharon Cullen is $1.99! This is a historical romance and the first in a series. Readers enjoyed the setup, but found extra elements detracted from the romance. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Blistering seduction meets international intrigue in the Highlands as a veteran spy infiltrates the court of Mary, Queen of Scots. There he matches wits against a tantalizing enemy: his new wife.

Simon Marcheford wants nothing more than to settle down on the land bestowed upon him by the English crown. Queen Elizabeth, however, is not about to let her best spy retire so easily. Simon will have his reward, she decrees, after he completes one last mission in Scotland. But no sooner has he sussed out a diabolical plot up North than Queen Mary weds him to her cousin—an exquisite beauty with troubled, soulful eyes—and orders Simon to watch her every move.

Aimee de Verris is no spy. But her life may depend on becoming one. Banished from the French court by Catherine de Medici, Aimee finds herself tasked with reporting on Queen Mary’s activities in Scotland, where she’s unnerved by the frigid weather and brutish customs. Worst of all, Aimee’s been married off to a most uncouth lout. But when murder strikes, she learns to appreciate Simon’s talent for shielding her with every inch of his muscular frame. If Aimee desires her husband, perhaps she could trust him—or even love him.

  • Cold as Ice

Cold as Ice by Anne Stuart

Cold as Ice by Anne Stuart is $1.99! This is a romantic suspense novel and the second book in the Ice series. I read the first one and thought it was okay, though I never continued with the series. Perhaps I should change that. Be warned that this is on the darker side of romantic suspense, if you haven’t picked that up from the description.

Never get in the way of a mission

The job was supposed to be dead easy — hand-deliver some legal papers to billionaire philanthropist Harry Van Dorn’s extravagant yacht, get his signature and be done. But Manhattan lawyer Genevieve Spenser soon realizes she’s in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that the publicly benevolent playboy has a sick, vicious side. As he tries to make her his plaything for the evening, eager to use and abuse her until he discards her with the rest of his victims, Genevieve must keep her wits if she intends to survive the night.

But there’s someone else on the ship who knows the true depths of Van Dorn’s evil. Peter Jensen is far more than the unassuming personal assistant he pretends to be — he’s a secret operative who will stop at nothing to ensure Harry’s deadly Rule of Seven terror campaign dies with him. But Genevieve’s presence has thrown a wrench into his plans, and now he must decide whether to risk his mission to keep her alive, or allow her to become collateral damage . . .

  • Catch and Release

Catch and Release by Laura Drewry

Catch and Release by Laura Drewry is $1.99! This is the third book in the Fishing for Trouble and while I’m not big on fishing, I’m always a sucker for an “unconventional” occupation. Readers say the book is light on sex but pretty high in emotional conflict, if that’s your bag. It has a pretty impressive 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

The irresistible O’Donnell brothers return in a charming novel from the bestselling author of Off the Hook (“The perfect balance of sweet, sexy, and wonderfully romantic.”—Lauren Layne).

Hope Seaver is an up-and-coming TV producer tackling the hardest gig of her career: a reality show set at the Buoys, a scenic fishing destination owned by three handsome, stubborn brothers. Liam and Finn O’Donnell are willing to tolerate her crew for the sake of the business, but Ronan would rather chew off a limb than open up on camera. Somehow Hope has to convince him of her good intentions—and stop herself from swooning every time Ronan walks into the frame.

Ronan knows that he’s the reason his brothers gave up their old lives to run the Buoys, and he needs to make it worth their while. So if this out-of-towner with the kind eyes and dazzling smile wants to give them the free publicity they desperately need, Ronan can’t say no. He just won’t let himself get burned again by a double-dealing woman. But what if Hope’s good-girl routine isn’t an act? When Ronan lets his guard down long enough to catch a glimpse of the real Hope, he likes what he sees—enough to give love another shot.

Bought the engagement game last night and stayed up way too late reading it. I’ve been in a romance novel book slump and this was the first one in a while I’ve been able to finish. Super enjoyable story and characters.
