Links: Great Doggos, Romance Swag, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Good afternoon! It’s that time again: links time! I’m in a strange mood this Wednesday. It’s the year anniversary of my grandmother’s death and I have a lot of unresolved feelings. Very thankful I have a therapy appointment today and a book order came in at my local bookstore.

Sil of The Book Voyagers is at Frolic.Media discussing things to avoid when writing Latinx characters in romance.

It hurts my heart to see hurtful Latinx representation in fiction. We don’t have many and it’s hard to see that some of that isn’t even good representation. I have encountered it a lot and it seems sometimes authors follow some steps to write a Latinx character, like it was from a guide, when those steps are clearly not the right way to go and easily will lead you to a stereotype.

She also provides some great recommendations for books that have great representation.

I’ve had several family members die from cancer. I know how the disease can rob you of simple pleasures, especially food, which is why I’m very happy to see this Kickstarter for the Chemo Kitchen Cookbook.

The Chemo Kitchen Cookbook is a collection of recipes written by award-winning chefs, created specifically for people going through taste change during cancer treatment. Let’s help steal back some fun in food, and win little battles with taste while doctors help you fight the war.

The Chemo Kitchen Cookbook is designed for both those in treatment and their caregivers, trained or not. Simple recipes anyone can make. We are tackling where cancer steals joy. We can help in the kitchen.

There is plenty of time left in the campaign and I hope it hits its goal.

Book lover, Jennifer Lewis, is discussing how reading helped her with grief following her sister’s death:

The thing about romance novels is, they’re safe. When I read them, I know exactly what I’m getting into within the first chapter. No matter the trials and setbacks, the protagonist will be united with their true love by the end of the story. Romance novels became the definition of comfort reads to me, as the works of Lauren Willig, Sarah MacLean and Lisa Kleypas welcomed me back into the world of books. Cliché as it sounds, they assured me that books can, and do, heal.

Romance is so wonderful and every day I’m glad to be part of its community.

Want more romance swag? Grab a Romancelandia mug, shirt, or tote! The proceeds benefit the RWA Public Awareness fund. I love that the mug can be purchased in four different shades of pink. I think these items are available only for the next week and a half.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my cat. But there’s some about the pureness of dogs that always makes me smile. Sam deserves all the treats!

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
