Susanna Kearsley, Paranormal Romance, & More

  • Damsel in Distress

Damsel in Distress by Heather Graham

Damsel in Distress by Heather Graham is $2.99! This historical romance has a heroine who is a maiden by day, and a bandit by night. This is a reprint of the same book under Graham’s other pen name, Shannon Drake, just in case the book sounded familiar to anyone. Some readers though there was way too much going on, while others loved the sense of adventure.

In Robin Hood’s forest, the bandit’s silver sword belongs to Lady Greensleeves

Countess Katherine de Montrain is not your typical lady. Hunting alongside her father since she was a child, she is quick with a bow and sword and knows the forest well—but hides this expertise from everyone around her.

Years later, Kat finds herself a prized maiden in the court of Richard the Lionheart. As she resists the unwelcome advances of the crusader Damian Mountjoy, she relishes her secret life as a bandit who fights in the company of Robin Hood. There she is known as Lady Greensleeves: a crack shot, keen tracker, and champion of the oppressed. But passion is about to grip her heart, and love is never simple in the forest, where deception is the only way to survive.

Mariana by Susanna Kearsley is $2.99 today only as a Kindle Daily Deal! It’s also being price-matched by Barnes & Noble. Check out today’s other deals as there are a couple more romances too! Kearsley’s books fit almost every genre – contemporary, historical, fantasy, time travel, paranormal. Mariana was originally published in 1995, and has a 4+ star average on GoodReads. Some readers have named this their favorite of Kearsley’s novels – and all of her novels are unique, so the chance to grab one at $2 is not to be missed.

From the winner of the Catherine Cookson Fiction Prize, this mesmerizing, suspenseful, and richly atmospheric tale of time travel draws us into the heart of a heroine we won’t soon forget…

The first time Julia Beckett saw Greywethers she was only five, but she knew that it was her house. And now that she’s at last become its owner, she suspects that she was drawn there for a reason.

As if Greywethers were a portal between worlds, she finds herself transported into seventeenth-century England, becoming Mariana, a young woman struggling against danger and treachery, and battling a forbidden love.

Each time Julia travels back, she becomes more enthralled with the past…until she realizes Mariana’s life is threatening to eclipse her own, and she must find a way to lay the past to rest or lose the chance for happiness in her own time.

  • Fated

    Fated by Rebecca Zanetti

Fated by Rebecca Zanetti is $2.99! This is a paranormal romance with what seems to be a marriage of convenience trope. Some readers thought the plot was a but over the top, while others said they couldn’t put this one down. It’s the first book in the Dark Protectors series and has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads. If you’re looking to continue the series, many of the other books are also $2.99.

    Marry Me

Cara Paulsen does not give up easily. A scientist and a single mother, she’s used to fighting for what she wants, keeping a cool head, and doing whatever it takes to protect her daughter Janie. But “whatever it takes” has never before included a shotgun wedding to a dangerous-looking stranger with an attitude problem…

    Or Else

Sure, the mysterious Talen says that he’s there to protect Cara and Janie. He also says that he’s a three-hundred-year-old vampire. Of course, the way he touches her, Cara might actually believe he’s had that long to practice…

  • A Kiss of Lies

A Kiss of Lies by Bronwen Evans

A Kiss of Lies by Bronwen Evans is $1.99! This historical romance is the first book in the Disgraced Lords series. I want to issue a content warning as some reviews mention the hero was falsely accused of rape. I’ve DNF’d books for this plot line and I just want to keep everyone informed! However, if you’ve read this one, let us know how you liked it.

In Bronwen Evans’s Loveswept debut, a pair of damaged souls ignite each other’s deepest passions—even as they tempt fate by deceiving the world.

Desperate to escape her abusive past, Sarah Cooper disguises herself as a governess in the employ of Christian Trent, Earl of Markham, the man who, long ago, she fantasized about marrying. Despite the battle scars that mar his face, Sarah finds being near Christian rekindles her infatuation. A governess, however, has no business in the arms of an earl, and as she accompanies Christian on his voyage home, Sarah must resist her intense desires—or risk revealing her dangerous secrets.

One of the renowned Libertine Scholars, Christian Trent once enjoyed the company of any woman he chose. But that was before the horrors of Waterloo, his wrongful conviction of a hideous crime, and his forcible removal from England. Far from home and the resources he once had, Christian believes the life he knew—and any chance of happiness—is over . . . until his ward’s governess sparks his heart back to life, and makes him remember the man he used to be. Now Christian is determined to return to England, regain his honor, and win the heart of the woman he has come to love.

Not sure where to put this, but the new cookies consent pop-up, even after I hit consent, pops up. Any time I go to scroll.

On my iPhone, that is. Does not happen on my android tablet.

  2. SB Sarah says:

Well now. That’s kind of annoying. I’m sorry about that. Thank you for the heads up and my apologies!

  3. KateB says:

Hmmm.. could be because everytime I try to hit consent, the lower bar of my Google browser pops up and covers it…

OH! Think I just managed it. It. Got bigger when I went to type this. Was able to actually hit the consent button!

  4. LauraL says:

Most memorable to me from A Kiss of Lies was how very damaged both the hero and the heroine were. Then all they went through to get their HEA, complete with evil villains. My only quibble with Bronwen Evans is sometimes her characters speak/act in contemporary manner, but she writes an engaging story.

  5. Failed Indie says:

That’s, hmm, quite a logo placement on Fated. What exactly are the Dark Protectors protecting?

  6. Another Anne says:

–Not a romance — but Faith Salie’s book, Approval Junkie is 1.99 at amazon. I really enjoyed her podcast with Sarah and thought that others might be interested.

Also, Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier is on sale too. I’m debating about it. I did not like it when I read it as a teenager — but perhaps with age I will like it better.

  7. Lora says:

TRIGGER WARNING on Mariana. Graphic and callous murder of an infant/child (I think a one year old).
Book itself was pretty good but the sudden and graphic way the child is murdered ended the book for me.

  8. PamG says:

    @Failed Indie

Soooo. . . He folds to the left?

  9. Emily A says:

Thank you Lara for the head’s up!

  10. Failed Indie says:

@PamG Ha, fair! But it’s a big ol’ circle, and my sense of humor is 12.

  11. Ren Benton says:

Swan Song by Robert McCammon is a Kindle Daily Deal Friday, price matched at Kobo and Google but not at this time at B&N, and Apple is too much of a pain for me to check.

This is a sentimental fave of mine from my postapocalyptic high school reads. In the fashion of the Eighties from whence it originated, it takes its sweet time getting started, so if you’re plagued by 21st century impatience, it might not be your cuppa. I reread it a couple of years ago and was moderately frustrated by the long, slow start, but I was firmly in my feels by the end.

  12. Evelyn Hill says:

I enjoyed Mariana but the cover always makes me think the heroine has crocheted a baby crocodile and is cuddling it.
