The author described this as a romantic comedy between a romance author, who has a penchant for gambling, and a hero who works in casino security.

  • The Masked Minotaur

The Masked Minotaur by Chace Verity

    Author: Chace Verity
    Released: April 1, 2018
    Genre: , , ,

Odelia Aster runs her confectionery store with pride, even though profits are now practically non-existent. The hundred-year-old store has been in Odelia’s family from the invention of steamboats to the exile of magical creatures. She would do anything to protect her store and its famous candy geode recipe from the bandits now raiding the kingdom.

Five years ago, Odelia married a nice noblewoman to keep the shop from going under. She cares for her wife, but it’s hard to feel there is something real between them when Charlotte keeps her distance, taking naps all day and getting plastered at fancy parties. Charlotte is nothing like the alleged Masked Minotaur vanquishing the bandits across the nation. The idea of a Masked Minotaur keeping humans safe at the risk of certain punishment from the king excites Odelia in ways her wife does not.

When Odelia finds herself held up by a most unexpected bandit, she has to figure out how far she’ll go to protect her family’s legacy, even though all she wants is to be rescued by the Masked Minotaur.

  • Shades of Wicked

Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost

    Author: Jeaniene Frost
Released: October 30, 2018 by Avon
    Genre: , ,
    Series: The Night Rebel #1

In this thrilling new Night Rebel series set in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, sexy and ruthless vampire Ian finally meets his match!

    The Rule Breaker

Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless…and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with a Law Guardian, but he’s never been able to abide by the rules for long.

    The Law Maker

Veritas’ normal role is police, judge and jury to reprobates like Ian. But she has her own ax to grind with Dagon, so if she can use Ian as bait…well, all’s fair in law and war. As they scour supernatural hotspots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s devil-may-care, roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers that Veritas has shocking secrets of her own. As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences…

I believe this is spin-off from The Night Prince series, but do correct me if I’m wrong. I’m very curious about this, but I feel bad for never getting into The Night Huntress series.

Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews is releasing on June 26th. This is the first of the trilogy featuring Hugh D’Ambray. I’ve been waiting for this since her April Fool’s post last year. It’s nearly here. Yay!!!

  2. Lora says:

And now i wanna read michael caine’s book.

  3. I’m listening to the audio version of “I’m Judging You” by Luvvie Ajayi — it’s so good I want to drive around more so that I can keep listening! She narrates it herself, and I love listening to her. It’s a series of chapters reminding us of the obvious anti-social and anti-friendly things people do, and how not to do them — things like being the person who doesn’t pay enough when a group goes out to eat, etc. But she puts great twists on her observations.

I’ll be honest, the writer in me says it could have been tightened by 10%, but I like listening to her talk so much that it’s fine. She’s chatty.

  4. Michelle says:

Night Rebel is more of a spin off of Night Huntress. Night Huntress, Night Huntress World, and Night Prince are all in the same world. To be honest, some of it irritates me because you’ll have very young people condescending to millennia old vampires. I’m going to be very sad if Veritas is de-fanged because she’s supposed to be this hard-ass, bad-ass ancient vampire with superpowers.

  5. KateB says:

A few days ago, a post about Julie d’Aubigny, 17th century swordswoman and bisexual badass, blew up on my Twitter feed, so of course I had to find books about her!

I found a novel, GODDESS by Kelly Gardiner (2014) and immediately put it on hold at the library. I should have it in my hands by Monday!

  6. Zyva says:

There’s an Australia zone Kindle Daily deal on a slow burn, medical, lesbian marriage of convenience romance: “Who’d Have Thought?” By G Benson.
Live for 7+ more hours depending on timezone.

Really worked for me where it intersected with my experience (can’t elaborate, would cause spoilers).

  7. JoS says:

I’ve been watching a lot of romance anime these days and just finished watching After the Rain (Koi wa Ameagari no You ni). It was beautiful! I wish someone would adapt it into a romance novel and give it an HEA.

  8. Susan Neace says:

I recently found the first novel in Jodi Taylor’s Chronicles of St. Mary’s, Just One Damn Thing After Another, at the library and now I’ve read the first 6 and the next ones will be here from Amazon soon. They follow a group of historians who do research via time traveling pods. They are funny and heartbreaking and exciting and there is romance for the lead researcher who narrates the books.

  9. KB says:

I’m pretty excited about the new Night Huntress book! I didn’t realize she was going to be writing any more in that world, and I always thought it was a bummer that Ian didn’t end up with anyone. If done right, those two characters should be quite entertaining to read about. For anyone wanting to get into that series, I believe the author has a suggested reading order posted on her web site. Some of the books are better than others but I did a deep dive into that series a couple of years ago and it made for some very happy reading.
