  • The Last Wolf

The Last Wolf by Maria Vale

RECOMMENDEDThe Last Wolf by Maria Vale is $1.99! This sale is only available for the next couple days. I really enjoyed this book and its departure from the usual shifter mythology. Be warned though, there is violence in the book and it is very descriptive. Have you read this one as well?

For three days out of thirty, when the moon is full and her law is iron, the Great North Pack must be wild.

If she returns to her Pack, the stranger will die.
    But if she stays…

Silver Nilsdottir is at the bottom of her Pack’s social order, with little chance for a decent mate and a better life. Until the day a stranger stumbles into their territory, wounded and beaten, and Silver decides to risk everything on Tiberius Leveraux. But Tiberius isn’t all he seems, and in the fragile balance of the Pack and wild, he may tip the destiny of all wolves…

  • So Over You

So Over You by Kate Meader

So Over You by Kate Meader is 99c! It’s a Kindle Daily Deal today and be sure to check out the others. This is a hockey romance with second chance element and both a hero and heroine who are athletes. Meader writes some great heroines, though some readers had issues with the hero. To be honest, I’m always conflicted about the “manwhore” description.

Three estranged sisters struggle to sustain their late father’s failing hockey franchise in Kate Meader’s sizzling Chicago Rebels series. In this second entry, middle sister Isobel is at a crossroads in her personal and professional lives. But both are about to get a significant boost with the addition of a domineering Russian powerhouse to the Rebels….

Isobel Chase knows hockey. She played NCAA, won Olympic silver, and made it thirty-seven minutes into the new National Women’s Hockey League before an injury sidelined her dreams. Those who can’t, coach, and a position as a skating consultant to her late father’s hockey franchise, the Chicago Rebels, seems like a perfect fit. Until she’s assigned her first job: the man who skated into her heart as a teen and relieved her of her pesky virginity. These days, left-winger Vadim Petrov is known as the Czar of Pleasure, a magnet for puck bunnies and the tabloids alike. But back then… let’s just say his inability to sink the puck left Isobel frustratingly scoreless.

Vadim has a first name that means “ruler,” and it doesn’t stop at his birth certificate. He dominates on the ice, the practice rink, and in the backseat of a limo. But a knee injury has produced a bad year, and bad years in the NHL don’t go unrewarded. His penance? To be traded to a troubled team where his personal coach is Isobel Chase, the woman who drove him wild years ago when they were hormonal teens. But apparently the feeling was not entirely mutual.

That Vadim might have failed to give Isobel the pleasure that was her right is intolerable, and he plans to make it up to her—one bone-melting orgasm at a time. After all, no player can perfect his game without a helluva lot of practice…

  • The Scandal in Kissing an Heir

The Scandal in Kissing an Heir by Sophie Barnes

The Scandal in Kissing an Heir by Sophie Barnes is 99c! This is the second book in the At the Kingsborough Ball series. The heroine is trying to avoid an arranged marriage and chooses to get embroiled in a marriage of convenience on her own. I think? The description seems rather vague.

He is the next Marquis of Wolvington…
She is a lady with nothing but beauty and wits…
Together they share a forbidden kiss.

Lady Rebecca is determined to find a husband on her own terms, rather than marry any of the aging suitors her greedy aunt and uncle foist upon her. Her chance comes at the Kingsborough Ball, where she meets several potential grooms…yet no one compares to the dangerously handsome Daniel Neville.

Daniel Neville, notorious rake and heir to the Marquis of Wolvington, is in need of a bride, but finding a lady who’s willing to accept his past, is an entirely different matter. When he spies a stunning woman across the ballroom, Daniel believes he’s found her…until scandal erupts around them. How can he convince Rebecca to take a chance on him…and on the love that could be theirs forever after?

  • Long Hard Ride

Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James

Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James is $1.99! James writes some hot erotica, usually with cowboys. Though there is a lot of sex (it is erotica after all), the characters are interesting and at times, the plot can get pretty emotional. I’m a fan of many of her books. Several of the other books in the series are available at a reduced price.

One lucky woman is in for the ride of her life with three sexy cowboys…

During summer break, wannabe wild woman Channing Kinkaid is offered the chance to shed her inhibitions and horse around on the road with a real chaps-and-spurs wearing rodeo cowboy.

From the moment Colby McKay—bull rider, saddle bronc buster and calf roper—sets his lust-filled eyes on the sweet and fiery Channing, he knows she’s up to the challenge of being his personal buckle bunny. But he also demands that his rodeo traveling partners, Trevor and Edgard are allowed to join in their no-holds-barred sexcapades.

Although Channing secretly longed to be the sole focus of more than one man’s passions, all is not as it seems with the sexy trio. Colby’s demand for her complete submission behind closed doors tests her willful nature, and his sweet-talking ways burrow into her heart.

Will Colby have to break out the bullropes and piggin’ string to convince this headstrong filly that the road to true love doesn’t have to be as elusive as that championship belt buckle?

  1. CelineB says:

Amberlough by Lara Elena Donnelly is $2.99 (normally $12.99) at Amazon at least. I almost missed this one since the cover’s changed. The book has gotten a lot of love in Whatcha Reading segments and an A review from Carrie S. on here. Here’s a link to her review:

How to Bake a Perfect Life by Barbara O’Neal is on sale for $1.99 at Amazon. It was recommended in the Gardening Rec League thread a couple of weeks ago.

    One-clicked the Sophie Barnes ….

  3. KellyM says:

Well, the “be sure to check out the others” was an expensive link for me. Sigh…that damn one-click trigger finger of mine.

  4. Tricia says:

    @CelineB

Thank you! This one had been on my wishlist for a while, but I also didn’t notice with the cover change.

  5. KateB says:

I was coming here just to mention AMBERLOUGH! This is a great time to pick it up too, the sequel, ARMISTICE, comes out May 15!

  6. Kareni says:

I read The Last Wolf by Maria Vale. I enjoyed it and plan to read on in the series. It reminded me a bit of Anne Bishop’s The Others series though it’s hard to say how. It is definitely not G-rated.

  7. TAM says:

I also recommend The Last Wolf – a very fresh take on shifter world building, & I liked it enough to preorder the next in the series.

  8. Amanda says:

@Kareni: Yes! I think the Anne Bishop comparison is a great one!

  9. Kareni says:

It’s just hard to verbalize why, @Amanda. This is why you’re the reviewer, and I’m not!

  10. Kathleen says:

Since you all are my people, I can admit that I one-clicked and read The Last Wolf today after seeing this review. I really dug it. The tone and vibe reminds me a lot of Kelley Armstrong and the Bitten books, except more gritty & earthy. The world building of Pack life/hierarchy felt fresh. The heroine was a great mix of strong & vulnerable, naive & knowing. Highly recommend! I’ll keep an eye on this author for sure.

Also, I didn’t find it to be notably violent, but I do have Laurell K Hamilton as the high end of my scale, so take that as you will!!

  11. MaryK says:

For those who’ve read it, is The Last Wolf Paranormal Romance or Urban Fantasy? I really like Anne Bishop’s series, but I’m glad I knew in advance that it wasn’t Romance.

  12. Kareni says:

@MaryK, I’d be more inclined to describe the The Last Wolf as a paranormal romance than an urban fantasy.

  13. Jacki says:

MaryK: The Last Wolf is romance but with very thorough world-building. It’s very different from other werewolf novels in that these guys are more like wolves who turn into people than people who turn into wolves. They live a hard, brutal existence, and the heroine doesn’t even understand human society all that well because apart from those who must interact regularly with humans, the werewolves just learn enough about being human to pass.

  14. MaryK says:

    @Kareni, @Jacki – Thanks!

@Jacki – That sounds a lot like the Anne Bishop books.
