Breathless by Beverly Jenkins is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. Check out the other deals as there are a few more romances in there! Sarah read this one and gave it a B:

If you enjoy intelligent characters embarking on a very sweet and emotionally adorable romance amid a community of caring, interconnected women working together in a thousand crucial ways, you’ll like this book.

A strong-willed beauty finds herself in the arms of the handsome drifter from her past, in this second book in the sizzling series set in the Old West, from USA Today Bestselling Author Beverly Jenkins

As manager of one of the finest hotels in Arizona Territory, Portia Carmichael has respect and stability—qualities sorely missing from her harsh childhood. She refuses to jeopardize that by hitching herself to the wrong man. Suitors are plentiful, but none of them has ever looked quite as tempting as the family friend who just rode into town…and none has looked at her with such intensity and heat.

Duchess. That’s the nickname Kent Randolph gave Portia when she was a young girl. Now she’s a stunning, intelligent woman—and Kent has learned his share of hard lessons. After drifting through the West, he’s learned the value of a place to settle down, and in Portia’s arms he’s found that and more. But convincing her to trust him with her heart, not just her passion, will be the greatest challenge he’s known—and one he intends to win…

  • The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is $2.99! This is another of today’s Kindle Daily Deals and I wanted to be sure to mention it, since it’s been recommended and loved by many of my friends. The book has some great queer representation, though readers remarked it’s more character driven than plot driven.

A rollicking space adventure with a lot of heart

When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn’t expecting much. The patched-up ship has seen better days, but it offers her everything she could possibly want: a spot to call home, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and some distance from her past.

And nothing could be further from what she’s known than the crew of the Wayfarer.

From Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot, to Kizzy and Jenks, the chatty engineers who keep the ship running, to the noble captain Ashby, life aboard is chaotic and crazy—exactly what Rosemary wants. That is until the crew is offered the job of a lifetime tunneling wormholes through space to a distant planet. Sure, they’ll earn enough money to live comfortably for years, but risking her life wasn’t part of the job description.

The journey through the galaxy is full of excitement, adventure, and mishaps for the Wayfarer team. And along the way, Rosemary comes to realize that a crew is a family, and that family isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the universe… as long as you actually like them.

  • It Happened One Midnight

It Happened One Midnight by Julie Anne Long

It Happened One Midnight by Julie Anne Long is $1.99! This is the eighth book in the Pennyroyal Green series, which much of the Bitchery loves. One note: the description uses the term “gypsy prophecy,” which is rather insensitive. We’d love some comments about how the term is used in the book as a whole. Let us know your thoughts!

More than one beautiful woman’s hopes have been dashed on the rocky shoals of Jonathan Redmond’s heart. With his riveting good looks and Redmond wealth and power, the world is his oyster—until an ultimatum from his father and a chilling gypsy prophesy send him hurtling headlong toward a fate he’ll do anything to avoid: matrimony.

Intoxicating, elusive Thomasina de Ballesteros has the bloods of London at her feet. But none of them knows the real Tommy—the one with a shocking pedigree, a few too many secrets, and a healthy scorn for rakes like Jonathan.

She is everything Jonathan never wanted. But on one fateful midnight, he’s drawn into Tommy’s world of risk, danger…and a desire he’d never dreamed possible. And suddenly he’s re-thinking everything…including the possibility that succumbing to prophesy might just mean surrendering to love.

  • As Old As Time

As Old As Time by Liz Braswell

As Old As Time by Liz Braswell is 99c! This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast and Redheadedgirl had this preordered back in September. Several readers thought the characters were a bit flat, but others felt this was the best book out of the Twisted Tales series so far.

What if Belle’s mother cursed the Beast?

Belle is a lot of things: smart, resourceful, restless. She longs to escape her poor provincial town for good. She wants to explore the world, despite her father’s reluctance to leave their little cottage in case Belle’s mother returns–a mother she barely remembers. Belle also happens to be the captive of a terrifying, angry beast. And that is her primary concern.

But Belle touches the Beast’s enchanted rose, intriguing images flood her mind–images of the mother she believed she would never see again. Stranger still, she sees that her mother is none other than the beautiful Enchantress who cursed the Beast, his castle, and all its inhabitants. Shocked and confused, Belle and the Beast must work together to unravel a dark mystery about their families that is twenty-one years in the making.

  1. Cassandra says:

I enjoyed the whole Pennyroyal Green series, but I remember that It Happened One Midnight was one of my favorites. ‘Click’.

I’ll get this series one book at a time!

  2. GraceElizabeth says:

I cannot recommend The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet enough. It’s worth mentioning that this blurb suggests Rosemary is the only POV character, but although she’s our reader stand-in in some respects, there are also POVs of the rest of the crew which makes for romance subplots inclusive of various sexualities and identities. It’s not always a light book in terms of subject matter, but it definitely falls under proper optimistic sci-fi.

  3. cbackson says:

I don’t know how much input Beverly Jenkins has into her covers, but I feel like they always manage to very much have a slightly old-school romance vibe and yet seem fresh and updated. Like the Breathless cover – the font is definitely old-school, and it’s a clinch, but it’s the man, not the woman that’s disheveled and the heroine’s body position conveys strength and assertiveness. They’re very true to her books, IMO.

  4. Jan says:

Can the Pennyroyal Green series be read out of order, or do prior characters appear in successive books?

  5. Emily C says:

“If you enjoy intelligent characters embarking on a very sweet and emotionally adorable romance amid a community of caring, interconnected women working together in a thousand crucial ways, you’ll like this book.”
To which I say, if you don’t enjoy those things then you are in the wrong place!

  6. KateB says:

I listened to LONG WAY and it’s sequel on audio and they are wonderful! Charming, heartbreaking, definitely character-driven, exemplifies the found family story.

  7. Ren Benton says:

@Jan: The Pennyroyal Green books that I read (five or six of them) were out of order, and I don’t think it mattered much. It’s not like half of Couple A’s book is spent setting up Couple B’s book and you miss crucial information by skipping around. Characters from other books might appear or be mentioned because a lot of them are family, but their stories are pretty self-contained.
