This HaBO is from Leigh, who wants to find a book from high school:
Freshman year of high school, my friend Jane and I were talking about books before math class started and she promised to lend me a couple of her favorite romance novels, as I had only read VC Andrews previously. One book in particular proved to be very educational and I wish I could remember the title so I could revisit it.
I read the book around 1994 or 1995 but I have no idea when it was published. Probably late 80s or early 90s. It might have had a pastel cover with a picture of a house. I believe it was about two or three estranged sisters who must return to their hometown or their family’s estate after the death of their mother (or maybe grandmother?). I don’t remember if all the sisters have storylines or if it’s just one.
What I remember vividly: a scene that took place in a truck during a storm and another one involving the dryer. The heroine gets pregnant after having the “sex in a truck during a storm” scene. The only other thing I can remember is after the baby is born, the hero and heroine “made love with their hands and mouths” until they were given the clear from the doctor. This was quite revelatory to me at the time!
I’m so curious all these years later about who the author was and whether the book would still hold up.
The “hands and mouths” visual is giving me some heebie jeebies.
Is there any way it’s one of the Long Tall Texans series by Diana Palmer?
I feel like I remember a scene on a washer or dryer, too….and for some reason, they are together in my brain. Idk.
Iirc, Tyrion is described early in Game of Thrones as being quiet capable with his hands and mouth as well.
This sounds like Sandra Brown… I vaguely recall those types of scenes and descriptors as I secretly tore through her books as a teenager. Maybe “Texas! Sage” from her Tyler family series? I don’t specifically remember the dryer bit (it’s been a million years) but I’m pretty sure truck sex leads to pregnancy in that one.
There is a Linda Howard in which a child is conceived in the back of a Blazer during a huge storm. The title is escaping me. It’s one of her southern-big-house-family ones. And there is definitely all sorts of estrangement. I’ll look thru my stash.
Tears of the Renegade is the title.
Hey all! Thanks for these guesses but we’re still on the hunt. It’s not Diana Palmer’s Long Tall Texans, Sandra Brown’s Texas Sage series, or Linda Howard’s Tears Of The Renegade.
I want to say the book took place in New England or it could have been in the South. Fairly certain it wasn’t Texas. I don’t think the hero with the pickup truck was a cowboy either. But it’s been so long, who knows?!
I think Elain has right series, but wrong book. Try Texas, Chase.
No, that’s not it either, Nicole. Alas!
