2018 SBTB Hanukkah-palooza, Part Seven

A menorah against a blue and white background with the original ladies quadrant in a frame next to the menorahHappy seventh night of Hanukkah, everyone! We’re almost to the finish line of eight straight days of giveaways. I hope you’ve been enjoying the mayhem and celebrations!

Today’s giveaway is simple: reading and waiting. Waiting? Yes! Waiting for your nails to dry.

I think, though polish dries somewhat quickly, you should sequester yourself to read for at least an hour after you’re done with your manicure. Right? Of course, yes!

In this giveaway we have:

A Kindle with Wi-Fi with Special Offers – hold gently so as not to smudge your nails!

Then, for your manicure, we have:

Stickey basecoat, recommended by Elyse and by me, too, for keeping your manicure looking spiffy.

ILNP nail polish in Diablo Oxblood.

Sally Hansen Rapid Dry Topcoat. Now the copy says that the topcoat dries polish in one minute, but I think you need at least thirty minutes to be certain it’s dry, don’t you think? Maybe a few minutes more?

You’re going to look sparkly and fabulous, and relaxed after all that reading.

Ready to enter? Just leave a comment and tell us which book makes you want to hide out and read for hours? A new one? A favorite re-read? An entire series, start to finish?

Standard disclaimers apply: I am not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents were permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to sparkle in secret or out in whatever world you like. We recommend painting your toes, too, so you really can’t go anywhere or do much of anything for awhile. Comments will close Tuesday 19 December at or near 12pm ET, and winner will be announced shortly afterward.

Good luck, Happy Hanukkah, and thank you for being part of Smart Bitches!

WINNER UPDATE: The winner of night seven of our Hanukkah-palooza is SusanK! Please check your email inbox and spam folders shortly.

  1. Wait, first I need to find this mythical free time to sit and read for that long, uninterrupted! 🙂 Let’s say I find it . . . it would depend. A reread for sure, possibly a new book that I was super excited about. I never get a chance to do series binges.

  2. I’ve just ordered a non-fiction book about the history of a series of gamebooks I loved as a kid, so I expect a lot of nostalgia. I’d love a few hours to curl up and read that.

  3. Paullette says:

Highland Dragon Warrior by Isabel Cooper makes me want to hide out and read for hours–it’s very good so far and I’ve been trying to finish it for a couple weeks now, but work and life keep getting in the way!!!

  4. Lauren says:

Anything by Jill Shalvis, especially the Lucky Harbor series.

  5. Amanda Lee says:

Diving into a new series – if it’s fantastic, you’ll want to keep going!

  6. Tünde says:

    Any book by Tessa Dare.

  7. GHN says:

Hooooo! Every time a new book in a series by one of my favorite authors is published, I am really want to go into hiding with my prize, and I will definitely not want to come out of hiding until I’m done – and I’ll probably want to reread the entire series, to boot! I will not always read all the way from the beginning (it depends on which series it is) but at the very least I will reread the last couple of books.
One likely example of reread-from-the-beginning is coming up in January, when _The Temple_, the newest book in the _Guardians of Destiny_ series by Jean Johnson is published.

  8. Janiec says:

That would be Julianna Keyes’ Going the Distance.

  9. Shana says:

A new-to-me series with lots and lots of future books to read.

  10. Elaine says:

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, but I spent most of this weekend curled up with Jane Harper’s “The Dry,” which was excellent. I painted my toe nails, too, so it’s basically the perfect book!

  11. Susan says:

ALL my books make me want to hide out and read for hours! (I mean, really?!) But especially a new release in a favorite series or a comfort reread.

  12. Francesca says:

Any new book by a favourite author. Right now, I have one from the backlist of one of my all-time favourites that somehow I missed waiting for me. Oddly enough, I keep putting off starting it because I know I’ll be sorry when it’s finished.

  13. Beatrix says:

I totally agree with both Susan and Francesca: books ARE my comfort zone and retreat from the world. Since it´s easier to dive into a world I´m already familiar with, I tend to reserve uninterupted strechtes for new books from favourite authors. Hmmm, with the colour oxblood I´m thinking: Lake Silence by Anne Bishop?

  14. kbrum says:

a new book written by a favoured author. and/or re read of old favourite.

  15. Michele says:

I’m with kbrum; new books by favorite authors are my go to.

  16. Amy K says:

Give me one I’ve read a million times, probably Montana Sky by La Nora. It gives me all the happy feels. Reading a new book can be fraught with anxiety. So for comfort and as a way to unwind…it’s an oldie but goodie.

  17. Janira says:

I love to re-reading Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas. I love me some Hardy Cates!

  18. Abby says:

I have done this for some old books and some rereads. I think the last one was American Queen by Sierra Simone. But for me, historically, it’s been more fantasy/fantasy romance.

  19. Ellie says:

I hide out and re-glom the Mrs. Pollifax series at least once a year.

  20. Veronica says:

The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But oh,for uninterrupted time!

  21. Konst. says:

The Westcott series by Mary Balogh. Was seriously tempted not to get off at my station and go to the end of the line & then back again and again till HEA 🙂

  22. Marci says:

I love re-reading Agnes and The Hitman or Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie but I need to have sweets close by or be near my kitchen so I can make something.

And I love to zone out with my gardening in the summer and listen to Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken’s books.

  23. SusanK says:

The Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. Love all of their books, but I keep wanting to re-read these books.

  24. Alyssa says:

Anything by Courtney Milan, will only start her books on a weekend.

  25. Rebe says:

The newest Innkeeper Chronicles book from Ilona Andrews about Maud. Can’t wait till they start it!

  26. Diane says:

Because of your recent giveaway of Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series, I am currently devouring those books. Think I’ll do a reread of Pennyroyal Green books in 2018.

  27. Anita H. says:

I don’t have any one specific book but anything by Jill Shalvis or Tessa Dare will do the trick!

  28. Christina says:

I don’t have a specific book, but for a long read, I go for new books. I usually reread only passages and skim the rest, so that is pretty quick.

  29. Lora says:

I’m thinking my high school favorite (don’t judge me) The Master of Blacktower by Barbara Michaels. Yeah, one of those romantic suspense books where the uncommonly gorgeous but stupid eighteen year old orphaned heroine moves to the middle of nowhere to work for a maybe-dangerous brooding asshole nobleman who may have killed his wife. This guy–the scars, the anger and anguish–wooowee my fifteen year old heart just melted for him. I could so hide out and read it again and again.

  30. Oh, hiding away and reading a whole series sounds lovely! Right now, I could go Laura Florand, or Anne Gracie, or Susan Cooper (the Dark is Rising sequence is excellent for Christmas), or the Corinna Chapman books by Kerry Greenwood.

  31. Christa says:

I never know with a new book if it will be one of those. But with re-reads it would be Patricia Veryan. I can never just read one of those, but have to gobble up at least two or three of my favorite ones. And even though I know what’s to come, I always get them feels. Even now just thinking about them my heart is squeezing tight.

  32. camilla says:

I just re read the Joanna Bourne books in the order the events happened for the first time, rather than dates published. It was sheer bliss…

  33. Right now I’m ignoring the shopping and kitchen cleaning I’m supposed to be doing and rereading Ilona Andrews’ Innkeeper on the kindle app. (I really should switch to the audiobook edition and get on with my shopping…)

(All books make me want to hide out and read for hours. Exactly what books at what particular time depend on my mood and my levels of stress and fatigue.)

  34. Alyyy says:

I like to re-read old favorites. Sometimes I don’t even re-read the whole book, just open it in a certain chapter and go from there. Usually anything by Juliet Marillier is a good bet. I have all her books.

  35. Maria F says:

Last night I hid away with a Laura Florand; earlier this week with Lisa Kleypas. Loretta Chase, Ilona Andrews, Lee and Miller, Tolkien are other hide-and-read favorites.

  36. Azure says:

Presuming I have this oodles of free time…I love to snuggle in with a favorite reread. I am almost(!) through my reread of J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series, which means that in that wonderful free time I finally get to read the last book–Secrets in Death.

  37. RJ says:

Suzanne Brockmann. Or maybe ML Buchman. These are the only two military suspense authors I will read.

  38. Trix says:

Hmm…besides the aforementioned HOT HEAD, Eden Winters’ DIVERSION series is amazing. And recently I was very impressed by Cale Dietrich’s THE LOVE INTEREST, a YA m/m sci-fi spy thriller with AMAZING world-building that made me gasp out loud at one point.

  39. Gigi says:

The Psy Changeling series by Nalini Singh. I’d love to sit and re read the whole series uninterrupted. Never gonna happen though.

  40. rissatoo says:

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump, so I started re-reading Anne McCaffrey’s Pern novels. These are a comfort read, with familiar & loved characters, and it’s helping me find my bookish joy this hectic season.
