  • Too Hard to Forget

Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey

Too Hard to Forget by Tessa Bailey is $2.99! This is the third book in the Romancing the Clarksons series, but it can be read on its own. There’s a forbidden relationship element that some people weren’t sold on, though many readers said the hero does an amaaaaazing grovel. It has 4-star rating on Goodreads.

This time, she’s calling the shots.

Peggy Clarkson is returning to her alma mater with one goal in mind: confront Elliott Brooks, the man who ruined her for all others, and remind him of what he’s been missing. Even after three years, seeing him again is like a punch in the gut, but Peggy’s determined to stick to her plan. Maybe then, once she has the upper hand, she’ll finally be able to move on.

In the years since Peggy left Cincinnati, Elliott has kept his focus on football. No distractions and no complications. But when Peggy walks back onto his practice field and into his life, he knows she could unravel everything in his carefully controlled world. Because the girl who was hard to forget is now a woman impossible to resist.

  • Stealing Home

    Stealing Home by Jennifer Seaons

Stealing Home by Jennifer Seasons is 99c at most places and $1.99 at Barnes and Noble! This romance starts with the hero and heroine having a one night stand and the heroine nicking something from the hero’s apartment. Some readers say the plot is a bit farfetched, while others found it to be a funny contemporary romance.

Love may be just a game, but to the baseball players in Jennifer Seasons’ sexy Diamonds and Dugouts series—they’re playing for keeps!

Mark Cutter has it all: a lucrative baseball career, fast cars, and faster women—and all thanks to his priceless good luck charm. At least, that’s what he thinks before Lorelei Littleton shows up. Next thing he knows, he’s waking up alone, the sexy brunette has vanished, and his good luck charm is gone. More than a little curious about the wicked-hot cat burglar and determined to get his property back, Mark’s going to track down the thief and make her pay—big time.

Maybe Lorelei feels a tiny bit guilty for stealing Mark’s good luck charm, but when it’s worth $100,000 and the money could save her niece’s life? She’s not losing sleep over it … but him? Lorelei can’t get the ballplayer with the bad attitude out of her head. And now he’s come after her with more than just revenge in his eyes. Lorelei has a choice: turn over the charm and lose the money, or keep it and risk losing everything … including her heart.

  • Calling It

    Calling It by Jen Doyle

Calling It by Jen Doyle is $1.99! This is a contemporary sports romance with a “no strings attached” scenario. Many loved the characterization of the hero and heroine and found the romance to be really sweet. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?

Baseball player Nathan Hawkins needs to get away from Chicago. After a near career-ending car accident and with paparazzi surrounding his penthouse, Nate can only think of one place to go: home. But when he finds his old apartment occupied by a half-naked woman wielding a baseball bat, he’s not sure what to think…except that maybe his luck has finally changed for the better.

Librarian Dorie Donelli never thought she’d get to meet her fantasy man in person–much less while she’s wearing her bathrobe. To her surprise, her nearly naked run-in with Nate leads to more unclothed encounters. But Dorie is sure their fling is only temporary. As long as she remembers he’ll be gone once his life gets back on track, she won’t get hurt. In the meantime, she throws herself into enjoying their three weeks together before he has to report for spring training and go back to his old life.

For Nate, being with Dorie is the only time in months that he finds himself smiling. Laughing. And he has no intention of letting that go. He might even be falling in love…if only Dorie will let him say the words. What they have isn’t just a dream, but the start of a dream come true.

  • Welcome to Night Vale

Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink

Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor is $1.99! This scifi/fantasy/horror novel is based on the popular podcast of the same name. Some fans of the podcast loved this one, while others felt it didn’t translate well into book form. I’ve been curious about this one for a while, so if you’ve read it, let me know what you think!

From the creators of the wildly popular Welcome to Night Vale podcast comes an imaginative mystery of appearances and disappearances that is also a poignant look at the ways in which we all struggle to find ourselves…no matter where we live.

“Hypnotic and darkly funny. . . . Belongs to a particular strain of American gothic that encompasses The Twilight Zone, Stephen King and Twin Peaks, with a bit of Tremors thrown in.”–The Guardian

Located in a nameless desert somewhere in the great American Southwest, Night Vale is a small town where ghosts, angels, aliens, and government conspiracies are all commonplace parts of everyday life. It is here that the lives of two women, with two mysteries, will converge.

Nineteen-year-old Night Vale pawn shop owner Jackie Fierro is given a paper marked “KING CITY” by a mysterious man in a tan jacket holding a deer skin suitcase. Everything about him and his paper unsettles her, especially the fact that she can’t seem to get the paper to leave her hand, and that no one who meets this man can remember anything about him. Jackie is determined to uncover the mystery of King City and the man in the tan jacket before she herself unravels.

Night Vale PTA treasurer Diane Crayton’s son, Josh, is moody and also a shape shifter. And lately Diane’s started to see her son’s father everywhere she goes, looking the same as the day he left years earlier, when they were both teenagers. Josh, looking different every time Diane sees him, shows a stronger and stronger interest in his estranged father, leading to a disaster Diane can see coming, even as she is helpless to prevent it.

Diane’s search to reconnect with her son and Jackie’s search for her former routine life collide as they find themselves coming back to two words: “KING CITY”. It is King City that holds the key to both of their mysteries, and their futures…if they can ever find it.

  1. As a regular Night Vale listener I have indeed read the first novel. I liked it, and I did appreciate the work they put in to try to have the entire concept translate over from audio to book format. I kinda suspect though that I’d have actually enjoyed listening to it as an audiobook more than reading it, just because Cecil does perform the audiobook. 🙂 And a big part of the fun of Night Vale is listening to Cecil’s vocal performance.

There’s a lot of the same humor in evidence throughout the story, although since this is a standalone story, most of the familiar characters are not major parts of the plot. But Carlos does get a nice cameo!

  2. Kati says:

A Lot Like Love by Julie James is $1.99 today. It’s a favorite of mine!

  3. MirandaB says:

if a one-night stand stole from me, their only choice would be which charges I had filed.

  4. Katie Lynn says:

Poison Study by Miranda Snyder is $1.99. Fantasy with a romance that covers several books, but works as a standalone. I really enjoyed this one.

@mirandaB, from what I recall I didn’t enjoy Stealing Home. I believe I stopped reading it, in fact. That’s pretty rare. I did, however, enjoy the other baseball book, Calling It.

  5. cleo says:

Stealing Home doesn’t sound like my cup of tea, but I really love that cover.

That’s my vote for the next cover non-snark post – men and women in denim.

  6. Elva says:

I’ve read Calling it and I remember liking it. Come to think of it, I always meant to check out the rest of that series 🙂

  7. Lostshadows says:

I listened to the audiobook of Welcome to Night Vale, and I liked it, but didn’t love it.

  8. Gigi says:

I DNF’d Too Hard to Forget. This is the only Bailey hero I actively loathed. He was a devout Catholic who felt he was sinning with the heroine so every time they had sex he would recite the Lord’s prayer during the act. He treated her like a shameful secret. I found the whole premise disturbing and gross.

  9. LMC says:

I also DNF Too Hard to Forget. In addition to all Gigi mentioned, she was a college senior Cheerleader while he was a Coach in his mid thirties.Too cliche male porn fantasy and too squicky for me!

  10. Caroline says:

I 100% agree with Gigi and LMC. The imbalance of power and the religious guilt caused me to squick. So. Hard. (I generally enjoy Tessa’s work.)
