Books On Sale

Books by Julie James, Neil Gaiman, & More!

Sarah: App Sumo has a deal for StickerMule, which I use for all the SBTB stickers $19 for 50 stickers!

Sticker Mule is one of my favorite places to order swag, and I’m very impressed with the durability of the stickers they make. All the stickers I give out as swag and include with prizes won are from Sticker Mule. I also have a few of them on my car, and after several years and at least three blizzards in two states, they look great. Also, I love stickers and love ordering new ones, including ones I design for the site.

If you take advantage of the AppSumo offer, which is what I did years ago to try Sticker Mule the first time, you get 50 stickers for $19 – a great deal. If you’ve been thinking about using stickers as promo or for an event, this is a good opportunity.

  • Just the Sexiest Man Alive

Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James

Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James is $1.99! This is an earlier James contemporary romance with a lawyer heroine and an actor hero. Readers loved the heroine, but found that the ending’s pace was a bit abrupt and choppy. Have you read this one?

    COOL. CALM. COLLECTED.

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan. In the courtroom she never lets the opposition see her sweat. In her personal life, she never lets any man rattle her–not even her cheating ex-fiancé. So when she’s assigned to coach People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for his role in his next big legal thriller, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob’s charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

    CONFIDENT. FAMOUS. IRRESISTIBLE.

Jason Andrews is used to having women fall at his feet. When Taylor Donovan gives him the cold shoulder, he’s thrown for a loop. She’s unlike any other woman he’s ever met: uninterested in the limelight, seemingly immune to his advances, and shockingly capable of saying no to him. She’s the perfect challenge. And the more she rejects him, the more he begins to realize that she may just be his perfect match. . .

  • Neverwhere

    Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is $1.99! This is a highly recommended fantasy novel and this edition is the “author’s preferred text,” whatever that means. While some readers absolutely loved the world Gaiman created, others thought it didn’t live up to the hype. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

The #1 New York Times bestselling author’s ultimate edition of his wildly successful first novel featuring his “preferred text”—and including his special Neverwhere tale “How the Marquis Got His Coat Back”

Published in 1997, Neil Gaiman’s darkly hypnotic first novel, Neverwhere, heralded the arrival of a major talent and became a touchstone of urban fantasy. Over the years, a number of versions were produced both in the U.S. and the U.K. Now Gaiman’s preferred edition of his classic novel reconciles these works and reinstates a number of scenes cut from the original published books.

Neverwhere is the story of Richard Mayhew, a young London businessman with a good heart and an ordinary life, which is changed forever when he discovers a girl bleeding on the sidewalk. He stops to help her—an act of kindness that plunges him into a world he never dreamed existed.

Slipping through the cracks of reality, Richard lands in the Neverwhere—a London of shadows and darkness, monsters and saints, murderers and angels that exists entirely in a subterranean labyrinth. The Neverwhere is home to Door, the mysterious girl Richard helped in the London Above. Door, a noblewoman whose family has been murdered, is on a quest to find the agent that slaughtered her family and thwart the destruction of this underworld kingdom. If Richard is ever to return to his former life, he must join the journey to save Door’s world—and find a way to survive.

  • Midnight Lies

    Midnight Lies by Ella Grace

Midnight Lies by Ella Grace is $1.99! This romantic suspense does deal with a traumatic backstory revealed in the book’s description – trigger warning. The suspense is pretty high in this one, which some readers either loved in terms of pace or felt overshadowed the romance.

The Wilde sisters of Midnight return in this thrilling novel of romantic suspense, perfect for fans of Maya Banks, Allison Brennan, and Lori Foster.

    IT’S ALWAYS HOTTER AT MIDNIGHT.

The winds of fate have blown cruelly on a family that once had it all: money, power, prestige. The lives of three beautiful daughters were forever changed when, on a sultry night in Midnight, Alabama, a murder-suicide shattered the Wilde family. The girls grew up to live separate lives but now have returned home, each to face a danger no one can see coming.

Former homecoming queen Samantha surprised everyone by going into law enforcement, but beneath her tough façade lies a wary heart. The tragedy that struck her family is an ever-present reminder that nothing is ever as it seems. When the man she loves, Quinn Braddock, a doctor and Iraq war veteran, is accused of murder, Samantha assumes the worst. Brokenhearted, her confidence shattered, she returns to Midnight. Though exonerated, Quinn still feels the sting of Samantha’s doubt, but he can’t forget his feelings for her and follows her. Soon after his arrival, a shocking murder terrifies the town, and once again, Quinn is under suspicion. This time, Samantha will not turn her back on the man she loves—even if it means walking into a killer’s trap.

  • Plenty

    Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi

Plenty by Yotam Ottolenghi is $2.99 at Amazon! This cookbook has been recommended in my local book group and focuses on vegetarian recipes. Readers loved the photos and variety of recipes. However, others warn this isn’t a cookbook for those looking for quick meals.

Yotam Ottolenghi is one of the most exciting new talents in the cooking world, with four fabulous, eponymous London restaurants and a weekly newspaper column that’s read by foodies all over the world. Plenty is a must-have collection of 120 vegetarian recipes featuring exciting flavors and fresh combinations that will delight readers and eaters looking for a sparkling new take on vegetables. Yotam’s food inspiration comes from his Mediterranean background and his unapologetic love of ingredients. Not a vegetarian himself, his approach to vegetable dishes is wholly original and innovative, based on freshness and seasonality, and drawn from the diverse food cultures represented in London. A vibrant photo accompanies every recipe in this visually stunning book. Essential for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike!

‘The author’s preferred text’ is basically a director’s cut. Gaiman likes this version better than the original printed edition.

  2. cleo says:

I’ve read Just the Sexiest Man Alive and it was ok – it had a few first novel issues. I don’t think it’s a good intro to Julie James but it’s an interesting read for a JJ fan.

One thing I found really interesting given how sexy her later books are is that this one has almost no on page sex. It’s all fade to black.

  3. Ren Benton says:

“Author’s preferred text” means “what my publisher did to this book drove me to drink.” When you have clout (Gaiman) or your rights revert (littler fishies), it soothes the soul to right editorial wrongs from yesteryear.

Doesn’t necessarily make improvements readers will appreciate, but it calms the demons that have been screaming for vengeance since you got the revision “request” that eviscerated your story.

‘Plenty’ is no longer on sale 🙂

  5. Ren Benton says:

As an alternate vegetarian selection, One Pan, Two Plates: Vegetarian Suppers: More Than 70 Weeknight Meals for Two by Carla Snyder is $2.99 (verified at Amazon, Barnes, and Kobo).

  6. Lil says:

I loved Just the Sexiest Man Alive, and I think the scene in the courtroom where he wants her to show him what a cross examination is like is one of the funniest scenes I ever read.

  7. MarciaS says:

Meg Benjamin’s Konigsburg series is being republished – the books are available for pre-order on amazon for 99¢ each. See SB Sarah’s reviews (& the comments:)) I picked up ‘Venus in Blue Jeans’ when it was free & enjoyed it enough that I’ve been waiting for a good sale on the other books (for years).

  8. Caitlin says:

Neverwhere is one of my favorite Gaiman works. 🙂 It has just the right combination of urban life/bizarre fantasy, apparently.

  9. Another Caitlin says:

I was just wondering if the Gaiman would work for me – read through the comments to see what others had to say about it and I had to actually ask myself if I read it already and commented without remembering…..apparently I’ve been reading too much fantasy today.

I think the universe is telling me to pick it up 🙂 thanks @caitlin

  10. Nataka says:

Neverwhere… What a great read it was.
I discovered it through a radio adaptation, voiced by a crazy cast (James McAvoy, Natalie Dormer, Benedict Cumberbatch, Romola Garai, Anthony Head…) and picked the book immediately.
