She finds distraction in the chiseled form of top-shelf client Tobias Wilder, a magnetic American billionaire who demands her expertise, her discretion—and her secrecy. Wilder doesn’t ask questions. He gives orders. His gaze alone ignites her deepest fantasies. And his touch…

The sudden whirl of exclusive exhibitions and decadent parties that Wilder introduces her to is a potent aphrodisiac. But surrender soon becomes tinged with suspicion. Is Zara’s tryst with Wilder the real thing…or just a convincing forgery?

Whispers of witchcraft have haunted Margaret ever since she was born. A strange, dark-haired and dark-eyed child, she was an outcast in her medieval English village—and then her mother was brutally murdered. When her father remarries, Margaret realizes that she must leave the village for good.

She’s pregnant with his child, but resigned to raising the baby on her own—until he insists on doing “the right thing”, which means taking her with him to London, where he’s about to start a new job.

But starting over doesn’t mean the strange, disturbing encounters shadowing Katherine will stop. As Katherine begins to fall apart, Margaret’s fight to survive on her own reveals she has inherited her mother’s extraordinary gifts—but will she use them for good, or for evil? Can she alone change Katherine’s destiny, and that of her child? And what will happen if she succeeds?

  • Dating You/Hating You

Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren

    Author: Christina Lauren
Released: June 6, 2017 by Gallery Books
    Genre: ,

All’s fair in love and work. The first standalone romance by New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively readable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love.

Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you will get to enjoy Christina Lauren’s heartfelt, raucous, and hilarious romance style at its finest.

Amanda says: This is by far my favorite CLo book. It’s soooo good.

    Genre: , ,
    Series: Dreamcatcher #2

Nikolai Alexei Young was born with a special gift…one he’d do anything to lose. The heart and soul of every person he comes into contact with is an open book to his heightened senses. Colorful emotions, whispers of thoughts, the sour tastes of old memories…He feels them all. The sci-fi books would call him an empath. For Nikolai, his ability has made him an exile. He roams the U.S. alone, avoiding the glut of life in big cities, and using his innate talents to win money in underground poker games. Just enough to keep going, one town to the next. He has no hope that his life can be anything else, until he meets her…

Now three years later, living outside Savannah, Georgia, she is rebuilding her life on her own terms; seizing every moment and saving every penny so that she might fulfill her dream of moving to the raw wilderness of Costa Rica. But behind her carefree smile beats the heart of a lonely young woman haunted by her past, until a chance encounter with a tattooed stranger changes everything…

Fiona takes Nikolai under her roof for three sultry nights, waiting out the rain of a summer storm. She grows more and more fascinated by this brooding stranger with whom she shares an intense physical connection—a connection so strong, she wonders if there is something between them beyond lust and passion. Nikolai is shocked to discover that Fiona calms the raging turmoil in his heart. She alone silences the din of other people’s lives, and envelops him in the sweet beauty of her inner self. Every moment he’s with her—every touch of her skin—brings him closer to the peace that’s been eluding him his entire life.

But Fiona harbors secrets that she is too terrified to reveal. After Nikolai confesses his unique ability, she is caught between wanting to believe him and fearing he’ll eventually unearth her own dark past. When the unthinkable happens, Fiona’s plans come crashing down, and Nikolai discovers his hated ability might be the only thing that can save the woman he loves.

Amanda says: The plot seems really interesting, as does the two main characters.

  • Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud

Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud by Anne Helen Petersen

    Author: Anne Helen Petersen
Released: June 20, 2017 by Plume
    Genre:

From celebrity gossip expert and BuzzFeed culture writer Anne Helen Petersen comes an accessible, analytical look at how female celebrities are pushing boundaries of what it means to be an “acceptable” woman.

You know the type: the woman who won’t shut up, who’s too brazen, too opinionated—too much. She’s the unruly woman, and she embodies one of the most provocative and powerful forms of womanhood today. In Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud, Anne Helen Petersen uses the lens of “unruliness” to explore the ascension of pop culture powerhouses like Lena Dunham, Nicki Minaj, and Kim Kardashian, exploring why the public loves to love (and hate) these controversial figures. With its brisk, incisive analysis, Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud will be a conversation-starting book on what makes and breaks celebrity today.

Sarah says: I will read anything Anne Helen writes. She’s brilliant and this is going to be awesome.

  • The Child

    The Child by Fiona Barton

    Author: Fiona Barton
Released: June 27, 2017 by Berkley
    Genre:

The author of the stunning New York Times bestseller The Widow returns with a brand-new novel of twisting psychological suspense.

As an old house is demolished in a gentrifying section of London, a workman discovers a tiny skeleton, buried for years. For journalist Kate Waters, it’s a story that deserves attention. She cobbles together a piece for her newspaper, but at a loss for answers, she can only pose a question: Who is the Building Site Baby?

As Kate investigates, she unearths connections to a crime that rocked the city decades earlier: A newborn baby was stolen from the maternity ward in a local hospital and was never found. Her heartbroken parents were left devastated by the loss.

But there is more to the story, and Kate is drawn—house by house—into the pasts of the people who once lived in this neighborhood that has given up its greatest mystery. And she soon finds herself the keeper of unexpected secrets that erupt in the lives of three women—and torn between what she can and cannot tell…

Elyse says: I really like Barton’s earlier book, The Widow.

  • Cocoa Beach

    Cocoa Beach by Beatriz Williams

    Author: Beatriz Williams
Released: June 27, 2017 by William Morrow
    Genre: ,

The New York Times bestselling author of A Certain Age transports readers to sunny Florida in this lush and enthralling historical novel—an enchanting blend of love, suspense, betrayal, and redemption set among the rumrunners and scoundrels of Prohibition-era Cocoa Beach.

Burdened by a dark family secret, Virginia Fortescue flees her oppressive home in New York City for the battlefields of World War I France. While an ambulance driver for the Red Cross, she meets a charismatic British army surgeon whose persistent charm opens her heart to the possibility of love. As the war rages, Virginia falls into a passionate affair with the dashing Captain Simon Fitzwilliam, only to discover that his past has its own dark secrets—secrets that will damage their eventual marriage and propel her back across the Atlantic to the sister and father she left behind.

Five years later, in the early days of Prohibition, the newly widowed Virginia Fitzwilliam arrives in the tropical boomtown of Cocoa Beach, Florida, to settle her husband’s estate. Despite the evidence, Virginia does not believe Simon perished in the fire that destroyed the seaside home he built for her and their young daughter. Separated from her husband since the early days of their marriage, the headstrong Virginia plans to uncover the truth, for the sake of the daughter Simon never met.

Simon’s brother and sister welcome her with open arms and introduce her to a dazzling new world of citrus groves, white beaches, bootleggers, and Prohibition agents. But Virginia senses a predatory presence lurking beneath the irresistible, hedonistic surface of this coastal oasis. The more she learns about Simon and his mysterious business interests, the more she fears that the dangers that surrounded Simon now threaten her and their daughter’s life as well.

Elyse says: A retelling of Rebecca set in Prohibition-era Florida.

  1. Sandra says:

Jo Goodman, who is one of my few auto-buy authors, has a new book out next week. And technically not June, but Ilona Andrews’ new Hidden Legacy book dropped on Tuesday.

  2. Heather S says:

Ooooh. I am looking forward to “Now I Rise”! I really enjoyed the positive representation of Islam in “And I Darken”, and the great world building it had. Already put this one on hold at the library.

  3. Lisa J says:

Nalini Singh’s Silver Silence is my must have! I just reread the series so I am ready for it. As Elyse said, Russian Bears!!

  4. DonnaMarie says:

Bear shifters! Bear shifters! BEAR SHIFTERS!!!! I am so excited for the new Nalini Singh. The only thing that will make me happier is when she finally takes out to the ocean territory and gives me the shark shifter I’ve been needing.

Aside from that, the new la Nora and hristina Lauren, the books I’m watching for are Cormorant Run by Lilith Saintcrow and Ruthie Knox’s Completely.

  5. cleo says:

There are so many new queer romances that I’m looking forward to.

I’m beyond excited for the new KJ Charles! I loved the first in the series and enemies to lovers is one of my faves (if done right).

Small Changes by Roan Parrish is an m/f contemporary with.a bi heroine (yes, please!) It’s the start of a new series with mm and mf pairings. The heroine, Ginger, is a tattoo artist who was introduced in the author’s Middle of Somewhere series (mm).

Mature Content by Megan Erickson and Santino Hassell – mm contemporary. It’s number 4 in their CyberLove series. #2, Fast Connections, is a RITA finalist and one of my fave reads of 2016.

  6. Mara says:

Bec McMaster!!! The Mech Who Loved Me! It’s her 2nd in the London Steampunk: Blue Blood Conspiracy stories, and I am SO looking forward to it!!! I almost literally devoured her other books and series and was blown away by how much I have loved all of her books. Seriously, ALL. It drops the same day as Maclean’s Day of the Duchess – June 27th!

  7. Lizzy says:

@Cleo I would so very much like to see more bi women in romance. You mention another series that is m/m and m/f, does anyone know of any similar series that include f/f? And why is f/f so rare in series that already include lgbt characters?

  8. julia says:

@Amanda Is Dating You Hating You more like the Bastard series or Wild Seasons? I’m a total freak. I love the Wild Seasons, Sweet Filthy Boy is one of my all time faves. But, I don’t like the Bastards series.

I can’t honestly tell you how they’re different, maybe it’s just in my head (probably). But I”m really hoping that it’s like Wild Seasons. Anyone know?

  9. Susan says:

I’m really looking forward to Cocoa Beach, but am hoping I can hold off ’til it comes out in PB. My mother was born in Cocoa Beach in 1924 and the stories she used to tell about growing up there were amazing, in more ways than one.

  10. Amanda says:

@Julia: I’d say it’s a mix of both. The character ages are more like the Beautiful series – the hero is 28 and the heroine is 32. But it has that funny, lightness to the plot and characterization that the Wild Seasons series has. If I had to pick, it leans more toward Wild Seasons.

    Does that make sense?

  11. Sandra says:

@Susan, you’ll have to report back on it. My family has it’s own (mostly) true stories about rum-running in SW FL. But I never even thought of Cocoa as a haven for bootleggers.

  12. Susan says:

@Sandra: There were no stories about bootlegging in my family, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had been on the purchasing end rather than the production end since they were all big drinkers and I doubt Prohibition would have changed that. (But there was no drinking in mixed company.) In those days, my grandfather was primarily in the construction business, mostly roads, with some (citrus) farming on the side. The construction business was very cut-throat and he always went heavily armed, even in bed. He was a real character, as they all were. My NC-born father called it Cuckoo Beach.

  13. julia says:

@Amanda Yes that makes sense! Ok. I’m going to get it. I can’t resist. Thanks!

  14. CelineB says:

I just broke down and pre-ordered the new Oxford book by Lauren Layne which comes out the 13th. I love her books and the Stiletto/Oxford series are my favorites. I justified pre-ordering it at full price as a slightly early birthday gift to myself.

I also can’t wait for the Christina Lauren one. Hopefully my local e-library will get it. If not, I probably deserve two books as a present to myself…

Also, as someone who wasn’t really thrilled with the idea of bear shifters, I have to say Silver Silence was great. I’m totally on board with bear shifters now.
