Baking, Brides, & a Historical Romance!

  • Ice Wolf

    Ice Wolf by Jane Godman

Ice Wolf by Jane Godman is 99c! This is a paranormal romance with shifters and the cover model totally looks like Ryan Gosling, right? Some readers felt there was too much world-building for their liking, while others noted it was a great start to a new series. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

    They are the Arctic Brotherhood.

They are deadly fighters, fierce protectors and loyal mates.

Elliott Wilder is a mild mannered Alaskan college professor. Wilder craves the things most people find boring. Seclusion. Monotony. Anonymity. But what Wilder craves most of all is the thing he can’t have… memory loss. Four hundred years ago, Wilder and the other members of the Arctic Brotherhood were captured and tortured by the leader of the Siberian werewolves. Wilder is still haunted by memories of that night, when he wasn’t able to protect his leader.

Now the Siberian wolf is on the loose and seeking revenge. Not only must Wilder lead the brotherhood, he must fight the attraction he feels toward its newest recruit, Jenny Piper. Jenny offers Wilder a glimpse of the life he can’t have. As the brotherhood races against time to save humanity from the horror their enemies unleashed on the world, Wilder must reach inside himself to find the leader the brotherhood needs and the mate Jenny craves.

  • A Dangerous Invitation

A Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe

RECOMMENDED: A Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe is 99c! Elyse really loved this book and gave it an A+:

This book was the perfect escape. It’s rich in setting and suspense, and it’s a romance between two beautifully damaged people, and it helped me right along in my recovery, so really who can ask for more?

Torn from her life of privilege by her father’s death, Kate Morgan relies on her knowledge of fine things as a fence for stolen goods in one of London’s dark and depraved rookeries. The last man she ever expects, or wants, to see again is Daniel O’Reilly, the man who promised to love, honor and protect her, but who instead fled amidst accusations of murder.

One drunken night cost Daniel O’Reilly the woman he loved and the life he’d worked so hard to create. If he ever wants to reclaim that life—and Kate—he’ll not only have to prove he’s innocent of murder, but convince the pistol-wielding beauty to forgive his many sins.

With a killer on the loose, time is running out for them…

  • Flour

    Flour by Joanne Chang

Flour by Joanne Chang is $2.99! We featured Chang’s second cookbook, Flour Too ( A | BN | K | G | iB ), which has some savory recipes. But this one is all about baking, with recipes for breads, tarts, and even croissants. Some reviewers found the recipes rather long at times, but others say the results are truly delicious, especially the sticky buns!

Every day 1,500 Bostonians can’t resist buying sweet, simple treats such as Homemade Pop-Tarts, from an alumna of Harvard with a degree in economics. From Brioche au Chocolat and Lemon Raspberry Cake to perfect croissants, Flour Bakery-owner Joanne Chang’s repertoire of baked goods is deep and satisfying. While at Harvard she discovered that nothing made her happier than baking cookies leading her on a path that eventually resulted in a sticky bun triumph over Bobby Flay on the Food Network’s Throwdown. Almost 150 Flour recipes such as Milky Way Tart and Dried Fruit Focaccia are included, plus Joanne’s essential baking tips, making this mouthwatering collection an accessible, instant classic cookbook for the home baker.

LOVE A Dangerous Invitation!!! Since then I’ve bought every one of Erica Monroe’s books (I uh haven’t read them yet, but I’m having a multiplying TBR problem–I’ve also got a bunch of books by Alissa Johnson and Leigh LaValle that I want to read, but keep getting distracted by Summer Bingo).

I did read Daughters of the Bride for the Rachel Bingo Square, and I wasn’t crazy about it. I actually did like all the interlocking stories, but maybe that’s because there wasn’t one that really stood out–actually, the mom’s story was really adorable, even though the relationship predated the plot. I enjoyed it while I read it, but I’m very glad it was from the library.

Since there usually isn’t a sale announcement on Saturday, I’ll put this here:

Hunted by Meagan Spooner is a Kindle daily deal for $1.99 (not price matched as of the pre-dawn hours, but maybe check later). This YA Beauty/Beast rendition was reviewed here by Elyse in May and got an A.

“Unlike in many of versions of the fairytale, Beauty (in this case Yeva) isn’t the kindest, gentlest, ‘good’-est daughter of a wealthy merchant. In Hunted, she’s the strongest, the most feral.”

Also, Passion Favors the Bold by Theresa Romain is 99¢, and this one is price matched. It’s one of her quest-to-recover-stolen-government-money books. I think the stories are concurrent (everybody’s on the same quest), so I assume but can’t confirm they don’t need to be read in order. (I have another one in my out-of-control TBR, so I’ll find out someday and get back to you on that.)
