Links: Queens, Smart Heroines, & a Giveaway

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday Links time, where we poke around the internet for cool things to share. Tomorrow is June 1st, which hopefully means summer will be starting soon in New England and my allergies will finally taper off.

If you haven’t heard of Designer Daddy, he’s a popular designer on Instagram who recreates popular Disney dresses. His work really is gorgeous. For Mother’s Day, he turned Disney princesses into Disney queens, asking the models to write a note to their moms:

For this Mother’s Day, I wanted to imagine the typical Disney Princesses in the roles of Queen Mothers. It was so special to see the bond between the girls who played the princesses and their mothers who we were able to dress up as the queens they are. I hope you can see the love that they share!

I highly recommend looking at the higher def versions because the details are amazing.

Want more heroines in STEM fields? Well the Lacy Literary blog has you covered:

Welcome to the one and only STEM Heroines in Romance master list!!! There are over 140+ books featured including Young Adult, New Adult, and Adult romances from every genre. And I plan on updating the list as I find more.

As an Astrophysics Major and an avid Romance reader, seeing STEM heroines in Romance warms my heart. I love watching heroines navigate their careers in STEM along with, of course, their love life. But, finding STEM heroines in Romance is difficult. Even when there is some mention of a heroine working in STEM in the description, it is typically vague and just says “scientist” or implies they work in technology. I created this master list in hopes of making it easier for people to find Romances to read and love based off of a heroine’s specific field in STEM.

I specifically want to dedicate this master list to every other Romance reader who works or aspires to work in STEM. We deserve our Happily Ever After too.

RIP to your TBR pile.

Out of Print Clothing is having an amazing giveaway where you can win an antique book cart, galleys, swag, and a gift card!

Miniature charge cables

These mini cables are terrific for keeping in your bag to plug in your battery backup. They're 5" long and don't take up any room or get tangled, and they weigh nothing. There is an Android set and an iPhone set.

I always love reading about how The Ripped Bodice is kicking ass and taking names. If you missed it, they were featured (both in print & online) in The Los Angeles Times. Of course, their dog, Fitzwilliam Waffles, makes an appearance:

The Kochs are not only devoted, voracious romance readers themselves, but astute observers and critics of its routine, often out-of-hand dismissal.

“No other genre has to defend itself as much as we do,” says Leah. At 24, she is the younger, and wears a sprig of small white flowers behind her ear. Bea, 27, in clear-framed glasses, pets Fitzwilliam Waffles, a one-eyed rescue dog of possibly Pomeranian stock lounging on the cushion between them. (Fitzwilliam, if you’ll recall, is Mr. Darcy’s first name.) “It extends beyond just what romance novelists are writing. It’s also about how they present themselves,” Bea says, “and how they’re seen in the larger literary world as this kind of side show.”

Now, if I can just make it out to the West Coast.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!
