Thanks to everyone who commented, and may you always have a book in your bag!
Chapstick and earbuds. Always and forever!
Besides my wallet and phone? 😉 Earbuds or a packet of Kleenex. It depends on the season. If allergies are flaring up, you can bet there will be kleenex in my purse!
I keep a little sandwich baggie full of salted almonds AT ALL TIMES. My appetite can be unpredictable, and I have a bunch of dietary restrictions so finding a good snack on the go can be tricky. Having my own to hand is a life saver.
I love that you allow international entrants.
The colour is Gray Pubic. http://lewisandquark.tumblr.com/
Sorry I don’t have an urban chic answer to what goes in the bag. 95% of the time I go out I have my dog with me and he is very self sufficient and rarely even needs a lead, so my one essential is poop bags.
I always keep a hair tie in my purse with my keys. I invariably need one whenever I forget to put one on my wrist for the day.
Snacks and phone.
Well, I assume other than wallet and phone right? My Kindle of course. It is way more important than anything else including make-up. I don’t wear make-up anyway. But I need to be sure I have reading materials everywhere I go.
Altoid Smalls (the sugar free ones), ginger, and chopstick. I get nauseous easily!
As someone that lives in Arizona, I always have a folding hand fan in my purse!
My sunglasses; my eyes are sensitive, so I never leave home without them. Thanks for the chance 🙂

Phone, snacks, and emergency inhaler 🙂
Never ever leave without my chapstick for my eternally dry lips and never without a small notebook and my glittery pens for when inspiration strikes or important things need to be remembered. Everything is better with glitter.
Man, smart phones cut down on how much I have to carry (thanks, 100s of books in my pocket at all times!), but always want to have chapstick and at least one cute lipstick, ’cause I watched Peggy Carter and took away all the lessons.
Tinted chapstick! (I can leave home without wallet or phone and survive but the moment I forget chapstick, my lips immediately start peeling)
Mmm glorious aqua crayon green. It takes me back to prinary school
Other than my wallet and my phone (which I use more for keeping notes than anything else), I would say lipstick. It would drive me crazy if I left it behind. 🙂
A notebook & pen. You never know when you will get some inspiration.
my phone, wallet, sunglasses and library card (never know when I need to pick up some books!).
My must have list is based on the one time I forgot an item from my purse and suffered dramatically ..
Phone, phone charger wire, wallet (esp drivers license – oops), hair tie, iPod and ear buds, kindle, inhaler, Kleenex, Advil/painkiller pills, lactose pills, moisturizer and a pen that WORKS.
Needless to say, I need a purse rather than just big pockets on my pants.
I always have a book with me – you never know what will happen! (Same goes for my mini first aid kit!)
I’ll go with an Aussie answer: Lucas’ Papaw Ointment. That stuff is the best!
I was just looking at leather totes yesterday. I’m in dire need of a bigger bag. I’m hoping for durability too.
Besides wallet and phone, my case of essentials containing: comb, contact lens friendly eye drops, good lip balm that lasts forever on lips, cut out blister packs of nausea and pain meds, hair bands for quick pony tails, cloves for sinus related sore throat and lipstick. Oh, I carry a pen and a notebook that serves as my diary/appointment book/everything notebook.
My Kindle!
Wet wipes. I go to concerts a lot, where they always come in handy, and it’s become a habit when the kids were small, but I never shook it when they grew up.
I always have a lip balm with me, usually Burt’s Bees original.
My book! You never know when you’ll find time to sneak in a couple of pages – in a waiting room or if I get to the school pick up early.
Well, wallet and phone and keys are essential, but I always carry at least my kindle and probably another book and / or notebook with me. You never know when you might find some more time for reading!
Chapstick. If I’m ever in a coma, I want someone to make sure my lips are covered.
In a not joke, after ending up in the hospital unexpectedly, I always have either my kindle or ipad in my purse. And if it’s a long day, a charger as well.
I am a pen hoarder so I always have a few in my purse along with ny wallet and phone
These days it’s diapers, wipes, and books for my toddler! ❤ She been a book lover since day 1.
Extra Polar Ice gum. And a measuring tape.
Cough drops! Allergies here are fierce and nearly year-round
4+ chapsticks and lipsticks. They multiply in there.
The only thing I never leave without is my keys. I don’t care much for the rest, even my phone.
Keys, always, always, even if my husband is home and the house is unlocked. And a book. There are a lot of trains on my route and I never know when I’ll get stopped by one.
Wallet, phone, E-reader, earbuds, keys. Everything else is optional.
Beside the obvious items, I try never to forget a notebook and a couple pens.
Chapstic and contact safe eye drops. Plus claratin for exposure to mosquitoes and or soy.
Keys, wallet, Tylenol, and a book if I’m getting on the subway.
Notebook and pen!
