  • Seven Minutes in Heaven

Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James

Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched at Barnes & Noble. Check out the other deals today! Carrie read this one and it earned a B grade:

Seven Minutes in Heaven is written with Eloisa James’ customary wit and charm. It’s an enchanting book with one major caveat – the main conflict could have been resolved in Chapter One if people just spoke clearly. I’m not a fan of stories that revolve around a misunderstanding. Still, I enjoyed it because the writing is so good and the characters so delightful.

Witty and elusive Eugenia Snowe has all society begging for one of her premiere governesses-except the powerful Edward Reeve, who bursts into her office with his arrogant demands.

No question that Eugenia enjoys crossing wits with the brilliant inventor, but Ward wants far more than a governess. He wants Eugenia, and he’ll stop at nothing to have her-including kidnapping.

Will Eugenia lose her heart in the most reckless gamble of her life, or will she discover the sweetest pleasure she’s ever known?

All it will take is seven minutes…

  • Stiletto

    Stiletto by Daniel O'Malley

Stiletto by Daniel O’Malley is $2.99! This is the much-anticipated sequel to O’Malley’s Rook, and if you’ve been waiting to add a digital copy to your library, now’s your chance. Carrie gave the book an A grade:

Stiletto has a slow pace with a lot of digressions for storytelling. It’s clear that the author loves filling in all the corners of this world with the side stories of characters and bits of trivia about life in this version of Britain. This would be unbearably self-indulgent were it not so darn good: the writing is sublime.

In this spirited sequel, The Rook returns to clinch an alliance between deadly rivals and avert epic—and slimy—supernatural war.

When secret organizations are forced to merge after years of enmity and bloodshed, only one person has the fearsome powers—and the bureaucratic finesse—to get the job done. Facing her greatest challenge yet, Rook Myfanwy Thomas must broker a deal between two bitter adversaries:

The Checquy—the centuries-old covert British organization that protects society from supernatural threats, and The Grafters—a centuries-old supernatural threat.

But as bizarre attacks sweep London, threatening to sabotage negotiations, old hatreds flare. Surrounded by spies, only the Rook and two women, who absolutely hate each other, can seek out the culprits before they trigger a devastating otherworldly war.

STILETTO is a novel of preternatural diplomacy, paranoia, and snide remarks, from an author who “adroitly straddles the thin line between fantasy, thriller, and spoof.”

  • At Last

    At Last by Addison Fox

At Last by Addison Fox is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance that has an enemies-to-lovers element. A few readers thought too many characters and plotlines were introduced to set up the rest of the series, while others liked the slow burn aspect of the romance. Have you read this one?

Welcome to Park Heights, Brooklyn where three brothers discover the meaning of family, and taking a chance on love.

After a year of turmoil, Emma Vandenburg Bradley returned home to Park Heights to run her family’s business – a Brooklyn institution – Unity brewery. Still trying to get her feet back under her, she definitely doesn’t want to be on the spectacularly bad date that ends with getting caught in a bar fight and her high school crush coming to her rescue.

Nick Kelley’s career in the NFL was cut short, but now he has a successful bar in Brooklyn and his dream of buying the Unity brewery is about to come true. Until he realizes that the mystery woman he saved—and shared a steamy kiss with—is none other than his high school chemistry partner, Emma…who happens to be a part owner of Unity. And she’s not interested in selling her family’s legacy.

When Emma and Nick find themselves on opposing sides, both are willing to do anything to win. But as their connection grows deeper, they become torn: Can they choose between their love for Unity and their plans for the future—and for each other?

  • The Sinful Nights Bundle: Books 1-3

The Sinful Nights Bundle: Books 1-3 by Lauren Blakely

The Sinful Nights Bundle: Books 1-3 by Lauren Blakely is 99c at Amazon right now! This is a three-book bundle of erotic/BDSM romance, and each book features a different couple.

There’s a second chance story and a friends-with-benefits story, for example, and the three-book set has a 4.3-star average. Readers who liked it describe the series as “intense,” and very hot, though some mention some insta-love they didn’t like as much. The series continues after these three books, too. Have you read any of these?

    SWEET SINFUL NIGHTS
She was the one who got away…

Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It’s his greatest regret, especially since she’s all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he’s determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won’t make the same mistake twice. Easier said than done…

Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she’s been through with her checkered family, there’s no way she’s letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he’s more handsome and charming than before. And she’s torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him — maybe both. Soon they fall into each other’s arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years.

But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he’ll have to give her his whole heart, and she’ll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past.  And that messy past is about to spill over into her carefully constructed present…

    SINFUL DESIRE
He’s gorgeous, charming and mysterious. She’s beautiful, brilliant and an open book. Together their chemistry is electric, but will his secrets tear them apart?

    Control…
It’s what Ryan Sloan values most. Control of his business, control of his secrets, control of his days and nights. With the way his life spiraled in the past, he needs to stay in charge of his present.

    Giving up control…
It’s what Sophie Winston craves. After a wildly successful career, she’s stepped away from the business world and is now focused on her work as her city’s most noted philanthropist. When she meets Ryan Sloan, the chemistry is scorching, and utterly undeniable. Their desire for each other runs red hot. He wants everything she’s willing to give him in bed, and she wants him to take her to new heights as only he can.

Soon, he has to have more. All of her — heart, mind and body.
The only trouble is, he hasn’t been honest about how he met her and the dangerous connection he has to her brother. When the truth is revealed, he’ll have to give more of himself than he’s bargained for or risk losing the only woman he’s ever let into his heart.

    SINFUL LONGING

He’s the inked brother. The one you’re wondering about. The bad boy of the family.
Colin Sloan has a past. He’s done things he’s not proud of, but he’s living differently now. Making changes in his life. Working hard, working out harder, and trying to win over one woman. He’s utterly crazy about Elle Mariano, and though the sex is epic, their friends-with-benefits arrangement just isn’t cutting it anymore. He wants all of her, and is determined to prove he’s what she needs in her life.

Elle is fiery, loyal, and in major lust with Colin Sloan. He’s everything she craves in a man — smart, sexy, kind — and a rock star between the sheets. But his past hits too close to home for her, and the people she has to protect. There isn’t room in her life for a relationship with Colin. Especially when she’s forced to keep a secret that could tear his family apart…

  1. Ren Benton says:

Kings of the Wyld is one of those KDDs for $2.99. Darlynne mentioned it here a while ago (maybe in a whatcha reading post), and it sounded like crazy fun. Retired rock band-themed mercenaries with swords and monsters.

  2. Ren Benton says:

I just got one of my deals emails, so I’ll add that The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell is $1.99. My robot heart has a lot of feelings, which is a testament to the power of the writing, which made me love people and then did terrible, unforgivable things to them and filled me with SO. MUCH. RAGE. Good book. Not a happy book.

(I just learned there’s a sequel I will not be reading because I know I can’t handle whatever else Emilio goes through in it.)

  3. SusanH says:

@Ren Benton – I also absolutely loved The Sparrow, but found the sequel disappointing. I recommend continuing to avoid it.

  4. Lostshadows says:

I tried reading The Sparrow, but I apparently have a low tolerance for certain types of bodily mutilation. (Hands, in this case.)

  5. Ren Benton says:

@Lostshadows: I have nightmares about the hands. First thing on my mind when my carpal tunnel acts up and every time I meet someone with pretty hands or noteworthy dexterity.

  6. Jenny says:

@Ren Benton: I second @SusanH – The Sparrow has been a long-time favorite (lost count of how many times I’ve re-read it), but Children of God was a DNF for me. I was so disappointed – it was probably the first book I ever pre-ordered through Amazon, but I could never get past the third-way mark.

  7. Darlynne says:

@Ren Benton: Come sit by me, ‘k? Consider all your comments hearted because it’s like you’re in my head.

Thank you for remembering KINGS OF THE WYLD, which was one of my favorite reads. It is completely crazy fun and the sequel features, AFAIK, a strong female character from the first book.

Agree with everyone that THE SPARROW is exquisite and horrific country, even after all these years. I did read the second and my only recollection is, “Well, if Emilio can look back, maybe I can. Maybe.” I felt creeping dread the whole time, however, so not much of a recommendation.

  8. Mara says:

@Ren I felt the exact same way. I got to the end and was like this is one of the best books I’ve ever read, but I cannot bear to have a single additional bad thing happen to Emilio. Like, if he’d gotten a small cold or a paper cut on his sad hands, I would have been a wreck for a year

  9. Darlynne says:

Completely forgot to fire the squee cannon for Daniel O’Malley’s two books. They belong on my wish-I-could-read-them-for-the-first-time shelf, and Myfanwy Thomas is an even stronger character in STILETTO. So much good book noise.

  10. Hazel says:

@Ren et al: The Sparrow sounds intriguing. Do I dare?

  11. Darlynne says:

@Hazel: My two cents, it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read; it examines ideas of exploration, first contact, faith, understanding (and the dangerous consequences lack of it sets in motion). It’s also brutal and harrowing. And profound. And heartbreaking. So, yes, I would dare.

  12. Hazel says:

    @Darlynne: I’ve downloaded a sample. We shall see. 🙂

  13. Varian says:

*decides to be brave and read The Sparrow*

  14. Colette says:

I second the O’Malley books. Terrific reads.

  15. Lizzy says:

Am I alone in thinking the Eloisa James cover is atrocious? It looks like a badly photoshopped self pubbed cover.

  16. Kate says:

I have to speak up and say that while I loved The Rook, I thought Stiletto was terrible. Almost couldn’t finish it. (Go easy on me, Bitches! I know I’m in the minority here.)

  17. Mmr says:

Popping up to comment on Stiletto! I agree that it’s very different from Rook and, like Kate, I didn’t like it as much the first time I read it. But I re-read it for a book club discussion and found myself drawn in by the themes of dealing with betrayal, terrorism vs. idealism, and negotiating with someone you thought was an enemy. Not to get all geopolitical or anything, but I’d say that Rook is more fun but Stiletto is deeper. 2cents 🙂

  18. JWS says:

I really liked Seven Minutes in Heaven. I felt so bad for Edward in Four Nights with the Duke and hoped he would get his HEA.

  19. cleo says:

@Ren Benton – The Sparrow gave me literal nightmares. It’s a wonderful book but between the victim blaming and the mutalation I would never re-read it.

I actually am glad that I read the sequel – it wasn’t as transcendently amazing as The Sparrow but it also didn’t give me nightmares. And it explained the hand mutalation in a way that made sense. I think the worst thing that happens to Emilio is that he’s sent back.

  20. Hazel says:

@Darlynne: Something’s been hovering on the edges of my consciousness, and just hove into view. Have you read Dan Simmons’ Hyperion? I think the themes may be similar.

  21. Darlynne says:

    @Hazel, no I haven’t, but perhaps I should. Thanks!
