Smart Bitches Business Update: April 2017

The LadiesGreetings, everyone! It’s time for the April Smart Bitches Business Update, a monthly feature wherein I happily dive deep into the nerdy depths of the Smart Bitches and bring you all with me.

In past months, I’ve done surveys and have a few requests for additional questions. It seems you’re as curious about each other as I am about you!

I mean, I already know that you all know pretty much everything, and you’re fabulously smart and discerning, but a lot has changed in the way we discover books and meet one another since SBTB came online, and learning about one another is both fascinating and useful. Fascinating because y’all are hella interesting, and useful because I want to make sure SBTB stays as welcoming a place as it can be so you hang out with us as often as possible!

So this is Part III of the Smart Bitches Reader Survey, built in part with questions you asked us to, uh, ask!

I’ll be sharing the data with you in a future Business Update!

And one more thing. I want to remind y’all, and any folks you might know, that by request, we have options to purchase advertisement spaces on a weekly basis. Instead of buying a cycle of four weeks, interested advertisers can book a one- or two-week spot in many of our spaces.

This option is ideal for a limited-time discount, a boxed set promotion, or a focused campaign for a new book.

If you have any questions or would like to book a space, please email me for available options and our rate schedule!

Until next month, here are some random fun stats from our past month. The two locations that spent the most time on SBTB in the past 30 days are:

So, someone was searing for beach reading, I’m guessing? Maybe? I hope you found good books to read!

Thanks, as always, for hanging out with us, and for being part of Smart Bitches.

In your next business update would you mind discussing how your segment on CBS Sunday Morning impacted the site? Did it increase traffic? If so, has the increase stayed? Who visited and/or commented (geographically)?

And I know it’s a taboo to discuss money, but I’m really curious how SBTB is doing financially. Does it pay for itself and provide a living wage? If so, when did you realize you could quit your day job and how has it provided additional opportunities? If you’d rather not discuss $$ that’s cool, but I think it would be fascinating.

  2. Jacqueline says:

@CatG DUUUUDE! EXCELLENT QUESTIONS! I second that because I really am curious about how the special effected traffic, if at all.

On a more personal note, man I’m glad SBTB exists! As a romance YouTube book vlogger/reviewer, it’s hard to engage with the community. There are so few romance BookTubers and the few that exist don’t always have the best content.

So having this site to come to, and play in the comments EVERY day with the awesome sauce that IS here, means a butt ton to me!

Uh-oh. *insert fart noise here to keep comment from being too Serious Pie* 🙂

I am glad I was able to contribute to the site by Paypal. I do not know if others would be interested in doing so and do not even think about it. I believe if you use a site, you need to support it either thru buying the books advertised, books covered in your emails or sent to the site via contributions.

You missed one entry in your “What are your favorite parts of SBTB” section that would get a big check mark from me: the “Kickass Women in History” feature. I LOVE learning about these smart, brave, innovative women who have been overlooked by HISstory. Please keep up with that feature!

  5. Jacqueline says:

@EC Spurlock YESSSSSSSSSSSsssss!!! Bless you because my stupid brain also forgot about that one but EPIC AMEN!

Learning about the cool women who did cool shit = all the funtime!

  6. PamG says:

I also noted some missing features in that second to last question. I like the Links and Rec League Posts and enjoyed Carrie’s History posts. . . both Kickass women and the Romances. (I always found William and Catherine Blake pretty interesting.)

I think you should add an “Other” button there, because there are also older features that people might like to see revived. I used to love the posts that solicited reader advice on what to start reading by noted authors with huge backlists. I can’t remember the name of the feature, but I loved it because I am not a lifelong romance reader.

  7. SB Sarah says:

Eeep! Sorry about that – I’ve added to the form and made a space for listing other features I neglected to list. Thank you for the suggestions!!

  8. Demi says:

I’ve been reading this site semi-regularly to regularly since…2011?? It just keeps getting better and better!

  9. SB Sarah says:

Well. That just made my entire day. Thank you, Demi! I’m so happy you’re here!

  10. jaymzangel says:

I love SBTB surveys, excited for the results from this one!

  11. Jacqueline says:

@Demi RIIIIIGHT?! I’ve started lurking on this site in November of 2008. The only reason I know that is because I found SBTB the same night I found and made my Goodreads account.

It’s funny because I used to be sooooo shy (still am tbh), so I never started commenting until this year. It’s like the SBTB site has grown up with me! Also, OMG TIME IS WEIRD!
