Links: Lisa Kleypas, Horror Films, & Events

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday Links time! April is half over (what!) and that means the RT Booklover’s Convention is almost here! The SBTB crew will be there and we hope to see some of you in Atlanta.

Don’t forget that today at Hooray for Books in Alexandria, VA, Julie James will be celebrating the launch of That Thing Above Love with our very own Sarah Wendell!

Also, Sarah will be attending a romance fiction conference at Williams College in Massachusetts this weekend (April 21-23)

Both events are free!

Love horror movies? Then you mind find this Broadly article on women-directed horror a great read:

Today’s women-fronted horror films would probably not have been greenlit in the past, they say. “Every time we said we were horror directors, people would look at us and go, ‘Oh, honey, you don’t have to do that,'” says Soska. “It was almost like they were talking about how I clean up roadkill for the city, and it was this weird preconceived notion that horror movies and women don’t mix.”

I was never a huge fan of horror films, but I find myself drawn to a lot of horror movies with female directors.

Check out Sarah’s interview over at the Books and Ballads site, where she talks about her current favorite TV show, the most underrated book she’s read, and (of course) romance!

In Cosmopolitan, Lisa Kleypas reveals some things about an upcoming book:

What about Cassandra, Pandora’s sister? Does she have a book in the works?

Definitely. I believe she’s going to be the last one, which will be the sixth novel. I think the one after this, I’m going to have West, who’s the younger brother of Devon. I’m going to pair him with Phoebe, who is the sister of Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent. She’s the young widow in Devil in Spring. That’s not a guarantee, but I have a lot of good ideas for them, so I think that’s gonna happen. A lot of people were suggesting that I put Cassandra together with West, and I was like, “Uh, it might feel kind of incestuous and I can’t see a lot of sparks between those two.” So I’m really thinking about putting Cassandra together with Severin, the railroad owner, who is sort of like [Benedict Cumberbatch’s] Sherlock. He’s almost like a high-functioning sociopath. There’s something so sexy about a guy who is that into his brain and that smart. It just feels like there’s so much underneath. He would also be tremendously difficult to have as a romantic partner, to just deal with him.

Does that sound catnippy to anyone else?

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

So from what you’re quoting there, these Kleypas books are not written yet. Dammit.

  2. Emily C says:

If you are a sewer/crafter those frixion pens also come off of fabric when you apply heat

  3. Lisa T says:

I love me a super-smart, borderline sociopathic hero. It is my particular catnip.

  4. Veronica says:

I’m a little sad that West and Cassandra aren’t going to be an item 🙁 I could tell in the latest book that she planned to do something with Phoebe, but I would not have guessed that. With two St. Vincent books planned in this series, now I want to know if she’ll do anything with any other second generation Wallflowers.

  5. Julia says:

    Me @ Lisa: GIMMEEEEE

  6. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

Yaaaas Queen to Lisa Kleypas! I am so down with those books.

  7. Jazzlet says:

Thanks to this I had a dream about cumerbatch in his Sherlock persona last night helping me with my orgasms!!! Thank you 😀

  8. Kate says:

Funny to see Sarah mention Lamb in her Q&A! My mom is a huge Christopher Moore fan and when I was visiting her in Florida a few weeks ago I managed to convince her to part with one of her two signed ARC copies of that book so I can finally read it. (Yes, I know the library would have been simpler, but she has two!)

  9. Katie C. says:

I haven’t read Devil in Spring yet (I own it and it is sitting on my TBR pile – what am I waiting for?!?) so I have no opinion on the West/Phoebe match, BUT the Severin/Cassandra book sounds right up my alley – catnip ahoy!

  10. Gigi says:

West and Lady Phoebe!!! Lisa Kleypas needs to just take my money now! I paired her with him almost as soon as she appeared in DiS and this of course also means more Sebastian in my future.
