Links: Romance Events, Feminist Criticism, & Kilts

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Happy March! It’s the month where I constantly refresh my bank account to see if my tax refund has shown up yet. But if you checked out today’s Hide Your Wallet, there are plenty of books to keep me entertained until the IRS stops dragging me along, like some lukewarm ex-boyfriend.

There are a couple romance author events that you may be interested in! If you live in the New England area, Alyssa Cole and Alisha Rai are going to be having an event at Trident Booksellers on April 6th.

Julie James also announced a tour on her Instagram!

I read a pretty interested essay on The A.V. Club on how disliking Ewoks, but still enjoying the Star Wars series helps you understand feminist criticism:

Feminist criticism isn’t about ripping something to shreds or making others feel guilty for liking it. It’s simply about pointing out a specific creative weakness and then taking that a step further to explain the real-world social ramifications of that weakness, all in the hopes of dissuading future filmmakers from making the same mistake.

If you give it a read, let me know what you think!

Big thanks to author Rhoda Baxter for letting us know that the U.K. has announced their shortlist for their Romantic Novel of the Year awards! Some of the nominees are also offering samples of their books to readers!

iGo Keyjuice Keyring

The iGo is an itty bitty tool that unfolds to one USB connection, plus a USB and a USB Micro, so you can plug your phone into your laptop, or into a portable battery. Excellent for tiny emergency kits, too.

And to end on a bright note, how about watching men do yoga in kilts! (NSFW)

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Don’t miss a thing with Daily SBTB updates!

I will actually watch men in kilts doing pretty much anything.

  2. Thank you so much for that fantasic article link – though I’m a little surprised Anita Sarkeesian of all people would say that dealing with sexism rarely involves cartoonish bad guys, considering the death threats and harassment she’s been subjected to. I mean, a lot of these “alt-right” (misogynist/often Nazi) guys are practically trying to be caricatures of evil – see Milo whatshisface and his fans, for example. Some people really are just that bad.

Tessa Dare has wrote a bonus epilogue for When a Scot Ties the Knot and it is posted for free on her blog: http://tessadare.com/2016/12/19/my-holiday-gift-to-readers/

Thank you so much for the kilted yoga videa; perfect accompaniment to breakfast.

Thanks for Rhoda Baxter’s links, too. I’m eager to find out more about UK writers and books.
