Shakespeare, Alchemy, & More!

  • Undecided

    Undecided by Julianna Keyes

Undecided by Julianna Keyes is $1.99! This New Adult romance has been recommended to me several times and many readers say that it’s a NA that hasn’t overdosed on angst. However, others said it could be a little slow-going at times. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Nora Kincaid has one goal for her second year of college: be invisible. Last year’s all-party-no-study strategy resulted in three failed classes and two criminal charges, and if she messes up again she’ll lose her scholarship. But there’s one problem with her plan for invisibility, and his name is Crosbie Lucas: infamous party king, general hellraiser…and her new roommate’s best friend.

Crosbie’s reckless reputation and well-known sexcapades aren’t part of Nora’s studious new strategy, but as she’s quickly learning, her new plan is also really boring. When Crosbie’s unexpected gestures of friendship pull her head out of her books long enough to see past his cocky veneer, she’s surprised to find a flawed and funny guy beneath it all. The muscles don’t hurt, either.

But as Nora starts to fall for Crosbie, the weight of one of last year’s bad decisions grows even heavier. Because three failing grades and two misdemeanors are nothing compared to the one big secret she’s hiding…

  • The Alchemist’s Daughter

The Alchemist’s Daughter by Mary Lawrence

The Alchemist’s Daughter by Mary Lawrence is $2.99! This is a historical mystery with a heroine who uses her knowledge of plants to help solve a crime. Some found all the historical details really bogged down the plot, while others enjoyed this different take on the “police procedural” genre.

In the year 1543 of King Henry VIII’s turbulent reign, the daughter of a notorious alchemist finds herself suspected of cold-blooded murder…

Bianca Goddard employs her knowledge of herbs and medicinal plants to concoct remedies for the disease-riddled poor in London’s squalid Southwark slum. But when her friend Jolyn comes to her complaining of severe stomach pains, Bianca’s prescription seems to kill her on the spot. Recovering from her shock, Bianca suspects Jolyn may have been poisoned beforecoming to her—but the local constable is not so easily convinced.

To clear her name and keep her neck free of the gallows, Bianca must apply her knowledge of the healing arts to deduce exactly how her friend was murdered and by whom—before she herself falls victim to a similar fate…

  • Sex with Shakespeare

Sex with Shakespeare by Jillian Keenan

Sex with Shakespeare by Jillian Keenan is $1.99! This sale is only available at Amazon, which makes me think that it won’t last long. This is a memoir about how Shakespeare was the catalyst to a woman’s sexual awakening. Many say it’s really funny and it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

A provocative, moving, kinky, and often absurdly funny memoir about Shakespeare, love, obsession, and spanking

When it came to understanding love, a teenage Jillian Keenan had nothing to guide her—until a production of The Tempest sent Shakespeare’s language flowing through her blood for the first time. In Sex with Shakespeare, she tells the story of how the Bard’s plays helped her embrace her unusual sexual identity and find a love story of her own.

Four hundred years after Shakespeare’s death, Keenan’s smart and passionate memoir brings new life to his work. With fourteen of his plays as a springboard, she explores the many facets of love and sexuality—from desire and communication to fetish and fantasy. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Keenan unmasks Helena as a sexual masochist—like Jillian herself. In Macbeth, she examines criminalized sexual identities and the dark side of “privacy.” The Taming of the Shrew goes inside the secret world of bondage, domination, and sadomasochism, while King Lear exposes the ill-fated king as a possible sexual predator. Moving through the canon, Keenan makes it abundantly clear that literature is a conversation. In Sex with Shakespeare, words are love.

As Keenan wanders the world in search of connection, from desert dictatorships to urban islands to disputed territories, Shakespeare goes with her —and provokes complex, surprising, and wildly important conversations about sexuality, consent, and the secrets that simmer beneath our surfaces.

  • The Spinster Bride

The Spinster Bride by Jane Goodger

The Spinster Bride by Jane Goodger is $1.99! This is the fourth book in the Lords and Ladies series. The previous book is also on sale for only 99c! Readers say this is a rather sweet historical romance, but that the HEA was bit anticlimactic.

Mr. Charles Norris needs help finding a wife…

For he has the unfortunate habit of falling for each Season’s loveliest debutante, only to have his heart broken when she weds another. Surely Lady Marjorie Penwhistle can help him. She’s sensible, clever, knows the ton, and must marry a peer, which he is not. Since she’s decidedly out of his reach, Charles is free to enjoy her refreshing honesty—and her unexpectedly enticing kisses…

    Lady Marjorie Penwhistle doesn’t want a husband…

At least not the titled-but-unbearable suitors her mother is determined she wed. She’d rather stay unmarried and look after her eccentric brother. Still, advising Mr. Norris is a most exciting secret diversion. After all, how hard will it be to match-make someone so forthright, honorable, and downright handsome? It’s not as if she’s in danger of finding Charles all-too-irresistible herself…

  1. Sukari says:

The legs on the cover of Undecided are very confusing. Does she have a third knee? Is she doing tree pose in front of him? One of those legs does not look quite right for either of them….

  2. Nerdalisque says:

@Sukari, you are absolutely right! Something’s odd there.

  3. M & M says:

@ Sukari and @ Nerdalisque: she is an exceptional Yogi, heh!

Just an FYI for those based in the UK, you can pre-order Tessa Dare’s new book ‘The Duchess Deal: Girl meets Duke’ for only £1.99 on amazon kindle. Not sure why it’s priced so low, but I clicked that pre-order button so fast! Quite a few of her books are priced at £1.99 at the moment.

  4. Leanne H. says:

Checking this blog today was like grocery shopping while hungry. Click click click! 🙂

  5. Kim W. says:

    Mr. Charlie Norris.
    A.k.a. Mr. Charles Norris.
    A.k.a. Mr. Chuck Norris.

Still totally sounds like my catnip.

  6. Sex with Shakespeare is *so good* and I’d recommend it highly if you are at all interested in Shakespeare, sex, kink, and/or finding a happy and fulfilling relationship. So…basically the interests of a large portion of the Bitchery.

SO GOOD, and you better believe I’m one-clicking.

  7. Joy says:

What is happening with the man’s leg(s) in the first book! I see his right thigh which is weirdly long with the woman’s foot above his knee. If that is his right leg what is that other leg that the woman is riding doing coming out of his side. Maybe he’s an alien and this is a SF cross-species romance between a three legged man and a woman.

  8. Emily says:

Wait how does the girl in the first book still have a scholarship to lose after criminal charges and three failed classes?

  9. bev says:

Undecided is so good. I almost didn’t read it because I was thinking, “triangle”, but she plays with that trope in such a fun way. I really wish I hadn’t investigated it and went in blind because I’d have been charmed that much more.
Really it is a fun book and I really liked the h & h.
They should go back to the original cover.

  10. Liv says:

I need that Shakespeare book yesterday. Sounds fascinating and funny.
