  • The Girl Who Chased the Moon

The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen

The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen is $1.99! Allen is an auto-buy author for me and I just love the way she adds in some magical realism to her women’s fiction. Some readers felt that this book and its characters weren’t as great as Allen’s other novels. While others say that if you’re looking for something heartfelt and cozy, this should hit the spot.

In her latest enchanting novel, New York Times bestselling author Sarah Addison Allen invites you to a quirky little Southern town with more magic than a full Carolina moon. Here two very different women discover how to find their place in the world—no matter how out of place they feel.

Emily Benedict came to Mullaby, North Carolina, hoping to solve at least some of the riddles surrounding her mother’s life. Such as, why did Dulcie Shelby leave her hometown so suddenly? And why did she vow never to return? But the moment Emily enters the house where her mother grew up and meets the grandfather she never knew—a reclusive, real-life gentle giant—she realizes that mysteries aren’t solved in Mullaby, they’re a way of life: Here are rooms where the wallpaper changes to suit your mood. Unexplained lights skip across the yard at midnight. And a neighbor bakes hope in the form of cakes.

Everyone in Mullaby adores Julia Winterson’s cakes—which is a good thing, because Julia can’t seem to stop baking them. She offers them to satisfy the town’s sweet tooth but also in the hope of rekindling the love she fears might be lost forever. Flour, eggs, milk, and sugar . . . Baking is the only language the proud but vulnerable Julia has to communicate what is truly in her heart. But is it enough to call back to her those she’s hurt in the past?

Can a hummingbird cake really bring back a lost love? Is there really a ghost dancing in Emily’s backyard? The answers are never what you expect. But in this town of lovable misfits, the unexpected fits right in.

  • Rules for a Rogue

Rules for a Rogue by Christy Carlyle

Rules for a Rogue by Christy Carlyle is 99c! This is the first book in her Romancing the Rules historical romance series and it features a heroine writing under a pen name, plus some second chance romance elements. Readers were hoping for more unresolved sexual tension between the hero and the heroine. But many really loved the failed playwright hero.

    Kit Ruthven’s Rules (for Rogues)

#1 Love freely but guard your heart, no matter how tempting the invader.

#2 Embrace temptation, indulge your sensual impulses, and never apologize.

#3 Scorn rules and do as you please. You are a rogue, after all.

Rules never brought anything but misery to Christopher “Kit” Ruthven. After rebelling against his controlling father and leaving the family’s etiquette empire behind, Kit has been breaking every one imaginable for the past four years. He’s enjoyed London’s sensual pleasures, but he’s failed to achieve the success he craves as London’s premier playwright. When his father dies, Kit returns to the countryside and is forced back into the life he never wanted. Worse, he must face Ophelia Marsden, the woman he left behind years before.

After losing her father, Ophelia has learned to rely on herself. To maintain the family home and support her younger sister, she tutors young girls in deportment and decorum. But her pupils would be scandalized if they knew she was also the author of a guidebook encouraging ladies to embrace their independence.

As Kit rediscovers the life, and the woman, he left behind, Ophelia must choose between the practicalities she never truly believed in, or the love she’s never been able to extinguish.

  • The Queen’s Man

The Queen’s Man by Terri Brisbin

The Queen’s Man by Terri Brisbin is $2.99 at Amazon! Maybe there will be some price matching later today. This is a time travel romance that was originally published in the early 2000s. Some readers found themselves skimming chapters to get to the good parts, while others loved the heroine. Have you read this one?

A man born an heir, but raised a bastard. . .
A woman with the proof to put him on the throne. . .
A love endangered by the intrigue of Elizabeth’s court. . .

Richard Granville, an illegitimate son of Henry VIII, has always wanted to be king of England, but a bastard cannot inherit that position. So, he contents himself by serving his half-sister Queen Elizabeth. When her enemies approach with claims of his rights to the throne and with a plot to put him there, he is tempted. . . oh so tempted.

Sharon Reynolds, a museum curator on holiday in present day England, discovers proof of a legitimate male heir to Henry VIII and is shocked to be thrown back through time with that proof. Believing she was sent back to right the wrongs done to Henry VIII’s rightful heir, she searches for the man who should be king. Unfortunately, by the time she uncovers his identity she has fallen in love with him.

Giving Richard the evidence may bring his death if he fails. Giving him the proof will mean losing his love if he becomes king for a commoner is no fit wife for him then.

Danger, intrigue and deception surround them as they struggle to find the path that fate means for them. . . and their love. Can their love help them survive in Elizabethan England or will Richard forever remain the queen’s man?

  • Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast by Vivienne Savage

Beauty and the Beast by Vivienne Savage is 99c at Amazon! This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling with a dragon shifter hero. Readers wanted more interaction between the hero and heroine, while many really liked the dragon twist on the original. I will say there’s a trigger warning, as some reviews mention an attempted rape against the heroine and she stabs the dude. This is the first book in the Once Upon a Spell series and book two, which features a Red Riding Hood, retelling is available to preorder for 99c!

Princess Anastasia Rose dreams of attending school, but her plans are put on hold when war begins between her father and the beastly lord of a nearby castle in the mountains.

Prince Alistair isn’t an ordinary dragon. He’s a shifter afflicted by a curse, unable to become human again until he finds his true love. When a mortal king’s adventurers trespass in Alistair’s territory to steal a rare flower, the prince decides to steal a valuable prize of his own.

The Girl with the Ghost Eyes is on sale for 99 cents on Kindle today.

  2. Sue Rice says:

I overdosed on Tudor a loooong time ago, but I really enjoy the alternate-history trope of that period. I thought both that and the time travel aspect were well-handled in The Queen’s Man. In fact, I think I’m going to go download it right now! (BTW, there’s also a series with the premise that Anne Boleyn carried her miscarried son to term and he became Henry IX. First book is The Boleyn King.)

  3. Joanna says:

Why is there a picture of the Houses of Parliament on the cover of Terri Brisbin’s book when it is set in the reign of Elizabeth I? They were built 1840-70 after the old Palace of Westminster burnt down in 1834. OK I know it’s a time travel novel but…

  4. Kim W. says:

I’m jealous of people who get to read Allen novels for the first time.

  5. Katie Lynn says:

The Vixen and the Vet by Kate Regnary is free on kindle (the way the thing I saw made it seem that’s not true of other retailers). I believe this was reviewed on the site? It’s a beauty and the beast retelling.
