Happy Bitchery New Year!

The Ladies, including the newest lady, who has a blue polka dot dress and glasses and is blackHappy new year, y’all! I am probably the 56th person to wish you a healthy and warm new year, since even my former dentist two dentists ago sends me an email wishing me the same.

But I mean it MUCH MORE than my former dentist! (I mean, maybe it’s about the same, but I can pretend, right?)

I wanted to share some of the plans we have for this year!

We’ll be continuing our SB Movie Matinee, wherein we go forward and backward in time looking for the fun romantic comedies and romantic movies we don’t see much of any more. If you want to suggest a film you love, we have a form available and welcome your ideas!

We’re switching the Movie Matinee to every other month, however, and bringing back the Smart Bitches Book Club! We had an online book club a few years ago, and with all the new directions the romance genre is taking (simultaneously – like the worlds largest and most interconnected traffic circle), there are so many more books we want to discuss.

So we’re going to select a book on alternate months, and host a live online chat discussion here, just like we did before, so you can grab a beverage and hang out with us digitally.

Our focus for each book club pick may not necessarily be a romance that’s new that particular month but sometimes will be. We want to highlight some of the many excellent books in the genre and brilliant writers as well, but we also want to try our best to pick books that are likely to be or are already available in libraries, so that the relative cost to participate is as low as possible for everyone.

Got suggestions? You know we have a Google form for that, too! Please be considerate if you’re nominating your own books, and limit yourself to one.

We’ve also got more in-real-life in-person like-breathing-the-same-air-and-possibly-drinking meet ups planned for this year, too. We’ll make sure to announce them as they’re scheduled. And if you’ve got suggestions or ideas, please email me!

Our goal at Smart Bitches is still the same: to connect romance readers (hi y’all!) with one another, and with the books y’all want to read. There are so many books to discover, and we want to help you find exactly what you like. Thanks for hanging out with us, and happiest of new years!

Glad the book club will be back.

  2. Silvercleo says:

Happy New Year! I’m so excited that you’re bringing back the book club. I discovered it just a few short months before you stopped and loved it. I haven’t been able to find anything like it since! What a wonderful New Years gift!

  3. Jen says:

Sounds like you have great things planned for the upcoming year. I’ll follow you anywhere! 🙂

Please please do a Chicago meet up, too. Don’t forget about us midwesterners. 🙂

  4. jas says:

Have you thought about joining Litsy? I love it and have found so many great books there. Plus every time Eloisa James likes one of my posts I squeal.

  5. Leigh Kramer says:

I’m excited about the book club! I welcome any and all opportunities to discuss good or interesting books with others.

  6. Amanda says:

@Jas: I think I’m the only one on Litsy (ImAnAdult), but admittedly, I don’t post as often as I should.

  7. JayneH says:

I’ve loved the Boston Bitches meetups. Such a sense of “finding my people”.

  8. Sheila Moore says:

How does one find out about a SB Meet Up? Any in Seattle?

  9. cleo says:

@Jen. Exactly what I was going to write. I would love a meetup in Chicago.

@Amanda I am now following you

Happy New Year to you all!

The return of the SB book club sounds good!

  14. Des Livres says:

You should have a meet up in the blue mountains behind Sydney. If it was late enough in the day, I’d be there. It’s a popular tourist destination, although I have no idea what tourists do here, other than wear few clothes.

  15. SQ says:

Happy new year, SB! Thanks for all of the reading suggestions, laughs, and thoughts last year, looking forward to more in 2017!

Ditto for a meet up in Seattle!

  16. Judith says:

Des Livres, I would fly over from New Zealand for that!

  17. Des Livres says:

Hey New Zealand would be cool.

  18. Jo Lee says:

Can readers in other countries join the book club too?

Thank you for the many interesting and enjoyable posts here and Happy New Year!

  19. PamG says:

Happy New Year to you all. You’ve been a bright spot in my years for the last decade, and I hope you’ll be going strong through the next decade as well.

  20. SB Sarah says:

I’m so pleased y’all are excited to see the book club return, and thank you for the new year’s wishes!

@Jo Lee: Yes, absolutely you can join. I will try to move the time of the live chat around so we can welcome you at a somewhat decent hour.

@Des Livres & Judith: I would LOVE to go back to Australia and see New Zealand someday! I did visit the blue mountains, which are gorgeous, and not a bad spot for a book club, either! 🙂 Someday, fingers crossed.

Regarding SB Meetups – we’ll post about them here, and in the Events Calendar, too. Stay tuned!

I’m so glad you’re all hanging out with us, and I’m very excited for what we’ve got planned for 2017!
