  • Once and Always

Once and Always by Julia Harper

Once and Always by Julia Harper (Elizabeth Hoyt) is $1.99! We were just talking about forced proximity/inclement weather books, and this seems to fit the bill. Some readers loved the element of suspense in the story, but many found that this contemporary romance was trying to do way too many things at once. Have you read this one?

    IS THERE A PROBLEM, OFFICER?

Small town cop Sam West certainly doesn’t mind a routine traffic stop: speeding ticket, stern warning, and sayonara. With a whopper of a blizzard closing in, that’s all he has time for. But the lawbreaker he pulls over is anything but typical. From her mile-long legs to her razor-sharp wit, Maisa Bradley is like nothing Coot Lake, Minnesota, has ever seen . . . and she’s about to take Sam on the ride of his life.

    BEING BAD HAS ITS BENEFITS

Whoever said blood is thicker than water probably wasn’t related to a former Russian mobster. But an innocent mix-up and rumors of stolen diamonds soon have the Russian mob taking an unusual interest in the sleepy little town-and Maisa facing heated scrutiny from a certain tall, dark, and handsome deputy. Sam’s dazzling blue eyes beg her to reveal all her secrets, but how much should she tell? Getting snowed in with the sexiest lawman in the frozen north may not be the worst way to decide . . .

  • Roadside Assistance

    Roadside Assistance by Marie Harte

Roadside Assistance by Marie Harte is 99c! This is the second book in the Body Shop Bad Boys series, and I love these covers. The heroine is also a “curvy girl,” according to reviews. Readers say it’s a bit slow to start, but others really loved the hero. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

Underneath the axle grease and tats…he’s a gentleman
Foley Sanders figured he’ll always be content with a life of cars and casual hookups. Until a run-in with Cyn, a statuesque firecracker with a hate-on for men, leaves him bewitched and intrigued-much to her annoyance.

Maybe Cynthia Nichols was a little hard on Foley, that muscular, tattooed, super-hot mechanic next door. But she’s tired of feeling defensive about her size and has sworn off men. She’s got a new job, new life, perfect plan. Foley has trouble written all over him-no way is she going to fall for his charms.

Foley might look like a bad idea, but underneath, he’s all gentleman. Too bad Cyn’s not buying it. What’s a bad boy to do when the goddess of his dreams won’t give him the time of day?

  • Prime Minister

    Prime Minister by Ainsley Booth

Prime Minister by Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller is 99c! This is a contemporary erotic romance with BDSM. It’s also part of the Frisky Beavers series (hehe). Some readers expressed difficulties connecting with the heroine, but many found this book to be hot and pretty fun! Anyone interested?

Gavin: Ellie Montague is smart, sensitive, and so gorgeous it hurts to look at her. She’s also an intern in my office. The office of the Prime Minister of Canada.*

    That’s me. The PM.

She calls me that because when she calls me Sir, I get hard and she gets flustered, and as long as she’s my intern, I can’t twist my hands in her strawberry-blonde hair and show her what else I’d like her to do with that pretty pink mouth.**

Ellie: How much I like the PM varies on a daily basis. He’s intense, controlling, and a perfectionist in every way—and he demands the same of his staff.

How much I want him never wavers.

There’s something about him that tugs at me deep inside, and makes me wish that just once he’d cross the line in a late night work session. I’d take that secret to the grave if it meant I got a taste of the barely restrained beast inside him.***

    FOOTNOTES:
    * This is a fictional erotic romance. No prime ministers or interns were harmed in the making of this book.
** Except it’s a BDSM romance, so they were hurt a little.
*** Spoiler alert: she gets more than a taste. And she likes it.

  • This is Our Song

This is Our Song by Samantha Chase

This is Our Song by Samantha Chase is 99c! This is the fourth book in the Shaughnessy Brothers series, and I believe we featured an earlier book on sale a couple weeks ago. The hero is a musician and the heroine is a reporter. Readers say it’s a sweet romance, but some struggled with believability at times.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Samantha Chase crafts a tender, hopeful family-centered romance

    She knows him by reputation
Riley Shaughnessy knew that to stand out in his large family, he’d have to go big. Making a name for himself as a musician wasn’t easy, but he followed his dreams to rock-star success. But the relentless expectations of fans is not helping the slump he’s in now. So of course the person who attracts him is the woman who is not impressed by fame.

Which gives Riley Shaughnessy a lot to prove
Entertainment reporter Savannah Daly is completely unfazed by pretty-boy rock stars. She’s just here to get her interview and write her story. But spending an entire month with the Shaughnessys is going to show Savannah a side of Riley she never could have guessed.

  1. Linda says:

I can’t get over the fact that The Prime Minster sounds like Justin Trudeau Real Person fic. (Also oh dear… the power differential between the PM and an intern is… I can’t really think of a way that wouldn’t be yikes/an abuse of authority).

  2. Susan says:

@Linda: Came down here just to say that. The general setup is in the “mildly icky, but whatever” category to me, but the intern bit takes it firmly into “oh, hell no!” territory.

  3. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

Prime Minister definitely requires major suspension of disbelief. The intern thing isn’t really addressed, but she actually comes on to him. In real life it would have been her up for sexual harassment.

But if you want to give your brain a holiday, and secretly objectify a world leader, it more than does the job.

  4. Katie Lynn says:

I read that Prime Minister book when it came out, and while I normally take real issue with the power difference I don’t recall being grossed out with it in this book. Other than that I have no real recollection of what went on in it, so take that into consideration.

Us and Him by Bowen/Kennedy are still $1 each.

Rise by Karina Bliss is free. This is the follow-up to What the Librarian Did featuring the brother/bad guy from that book (which she couldn’t sell to Harlequin because it was too gritty)

Looking for Trouble by Victoria Dahl is $1.99

  5. Vicki says:

Heck, I imagine I’d read any number of books if they featured the Canadian Prime Minister. Though the power differential is a bit of an issue.

  6. Jacq says:

The power differential isn’t really a thing in the PM book. She’s not just some bright young thing working summers during her undergrad — she’s a PhD candidate brought in to work via a special program. They worry about the political optics of it, but there’s not even the slightest hint of coercion in the relationship itself. I bought it in on a lark, since it’s so obviously Trudeau-inspired, but it’s actually quite a lot better than I would have expected.

  7. CelineB says:

Good Girl by Lauren Layne is .99 at Amazon at least. I’ve loved everything I’ve read by Layne.

  8. Ren Benton says:

I got the first Body Shop Bad Boys book when it was on sale a while ago. The hero’s “she told me no twelve times but she has to say yes eventually” stance made my neck doing something owl-like from which I haven’t fully recovered.

“Bad boy” has changed from “full of pain and misunderstood but really a good person once you get to know him” to “no, girl, for real–BAD,” and I just can’t deal with anything advertised as such anymore.

  9. Yes, PRIME MINISTER is fabulous. (And spot on – I’ve been to Ottawa many times for in-laws and all the places and things are REAL, even the light show on the side of Parliament with picnic blankets. Ottawa truly is that sweet).

And the intern thing is fine – she’s a PhD candidate and not at all taken advantage of. The only bit that required a little suspension of disbelief on my part was the PM’s best friend (doctor) and how they could keep the tendency to have certain activities private. I think nothing is that private when you’re a lifetime in the news.

But it is total Justin Trudeau fan fic and it is awesome. The Canadian response to a world crisis – I was over the moon. So Canadian, so fabulous.

    Absolutely read Prime Minister!
