  • First Grave on the Right

First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones

RECOMMENDED: First Grave on the Right is the first book in Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series, and it’s $1.99 right now. This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price matched. Books 1-10 are currently discounted, so grab ’em while you can! Here’s what Sarah had to say about the book:

When I’ve been at conferences with Jones, readers and authors come up to her and tell her how much they love this series. This book won the Golden Heart in 2009, and the RITA for Best First Book in 2012. The heroine, Charley, is terrific. I listened to the audiobook performance by Lorelei King (after buying the Kindle copy on sale I was offered a discounted audio copy) and it was really good. I didn’t want to stop walking the dogs, that’s for sure.

Private investigator Charlotte Davidson was born with three things: looks; a healthy respect for the male anatomy; and the rather odd job title of grim reaper. Since the age of five, she has been helping the departed solve the mysteries of their deaths so they can cross over. Thus, when three lawyers from the same law firm are murdered, they come to her to find their killer.

In the meantime, Charley’s dealing with a being more powerful – and definitely sexier – than any spectre she’s ever come across before. With the help of a pain-in-the-ass skip tracer, a dead pubescent gangbanger named Angel, and a lifetime supply of sarcasm, Charley sets out to solve the highest profile case of the year and discovers that dodging bullets isn’t nearly as dangerous as falling in love.

  • Trigger Warning

    Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman

Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman is  $1.99! This is a collection of short stories that Carrie was excited about in February 2015. Readers mentioned there’s a diverse selection of twenty-four stories, but a few others prefer his longform stuff. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

In this new anthology, Neil Gaiman pierces the veil of reality to reveal the enigmatic, shadowy world that lies beneath. Trigger Warning includes previously published pieces of short fiction–stories, verse, and a very special Doctor Who story that was written for the fiftieth anniversary of the beloved series in 2013–as well “Black Dog,” a new tale that revisits the world of American Gods, exclusive to this collection.

Trigger Warning explores the masks we all wear and the people we are beneath them to reveal our vulnerabilities and our truest selves. Here is a rich cornucopia of horror and ghosts stories, science fiction and fairy tales, fabulism and poetry that explore the realm of experience and emotion. In “Adventure Story”–a thematic companion to The Ocean at the End of the Lane–Gaiman ponders death and the way people take their stories with them when they die. His social media experience “A Calendar of Tales” are short takes inspired by replies to fan tweets about the months of the year–stories of pirates and the March winds, an igloo made of books, and a Mother’s Day card that portends disturbances in the universe. Gaiman offers his own ingenious spin on Sherlock Holmes in his award-nominated mystery tale “The Case of Death and Honey”. And “Click-Clack the Rattlebag” explains the creaks and clatter we hear when we’re all alone in the darkness.

A sophisticated writer whose creative genius is unparalleled, Gaiman entrances with his literary alchemy, transporting us deep into the realm of imagination, where the fantastical becomes real and the everyday incandescent. Full of wonder and terror, surprises and amusements,Trigger Warning is a treasury of delights that engage the mind, stir the heart, and shake the soul from one of the most unique and popular literary artists of our day.

  • The Taming of Jessi Rose

The Taming of Jessi Rose by Beverly Jenkins

The Taming of Jessi Rose by Beverly Jenkins is $2.99 at Amazon and iBooks! This American historical has a rancher heroine and an outlaw hero. Readers loved the slow burn romance, but some found the dump of historical facts took them out of the story sometimes. If you want more Queen Bev on your e-reader, several of her books are priced at $2.99 and $3.99!

    No Man Could Tame Her

Jessi Rose Clayton would do anything to keep the family ranch from falling into the wrong hands-even agree to take on a rough-and-tumble outlaw as her protector. With his rugged, handsome face and muscular bronze body, Griffin Blake can draw a sigh from a lady’s lips almost as fast as his strong, sculpted arm can draw a gun from its holster. But Jessi Rose has no intentions of falling for his charms. No, her relationship with him is strictly business.

    Until He Came Along

Robbing the railroad is Griffin Blake’s game, but he has no choice. Either he agrees to help Jessi Rose or he gets sent back to jail-so he arrives at the ranch ready to help the ornery female protect her land. But underneath Jessi’s all-business exterior is a femininity she’s kept hidden for far too long-making Griffin think it might be time to tame this wild Texas rose.

  • A License to Wed

A License to Wed by Diana Quincy

A License to Wed by Diana Quincy is 99c! Holy catnip, Batman! This has a faked death, second chances, a one night stand, and spies! SPIES, Y’ALL! Some readers felt (like usual) that the hero and heroine just needed to sit themselves down and talk their issues out. But many really, really enjoyed this one. It has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads.

Lady Elinor Dunsmore made the mistake of falling for her older brother’s best friend, who vanished after a night of unbridled passion. Six years and a lifetime later, their eyes meet across a Paris salon. Her friends and family believe she’s dead, but Elle is very much alive. She’s now associated with a ruthless general, who wants her to seduce the man who broke her heart in order to learn his deepest secrets. Is Will a mild-mannered scholar—or the notorious agent they call The Razor?

The bastard son of an earl and an actress, Will Naismith always knew he was an unsuitable match for Elle Dunsmore, no matter how powerfully he ached for her. And yet he almost allowed his desires to spoil her glittering future. After the agony caused by Elle’s supposed death, Will has devoted himself to the Crown, but his entire life has been leading up to this unexpected reunion. As much as he still wants her, though, he must not succumb to lust once again. For his mission is delicate—and Elle is delectably dangerous.

  1. Katie Lynn says:

I’ve read the first seven or so Charley Davidson books (a combo of audio, paper, and ebook from the library) and have really enjoyed them. I’m trying to convince myself I shouldn’t spend $30 on a set of books right now but it’s reallllly tempting.

  2. Kim W. says:

I’m nitpicking, but I’m really having trouble getting over the idea of a baby born with looks and a healthy respect for male anatomy.

  3. DeanaCal says:

I just want to know where I can get those skull sandals!

  4. Ren Benton says:

@DeanaCal: I was always pretty sure those were Photoshopped. I have these:

    https://www.amazon.com/Odema-T-Strap-Rhinestone-Gladiator-Sandals/dp/B01E14EMFO

They’re kind of cheap, as is to be expected at that price, but they pay for themselves in joy the first time a little old lady coos over how cute they are before she realizes they’re covered in skulls.

  5. SusanK says:

I know I read somewhere that the sandals are by some famous designer. Maybe Alexander McQueen?

  6. cleo says:

Status Update by Annabeth Albert is .99 at Google Play. Super geeky M/M O4Y road trip romance and the start of the #gaymers series. I love this series, although this isn’t my favorite in the series (that’d be #2).
