  • Time Served

    Time Served by Julianna Keyes

RECOMMENDED: Time Served by Julianna Keyes is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance with an ex-con hero and it was mentioned on a previous podcast with Jane, who recommends Keyes if you like “moody loner dudes:”

You kind of have two unlikeable people.  They reconnect after he’s out of prison.  She’s a lawyer.  She’s trying to angle for a promotion within her law firm, and they’re working on this class action suit regarding medical illnesses caused in a, a factory.  So she runs into him again.  There’s a lot of attraction there, lot of unresolved issues, and she can’t really bring herself to admit that she wants him, so he says, you don’t have to admit it, you only have to say no, which she never does.  I thought it was a very gritty book, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Dean Barclay had nothing to do with my decision to flee my old life, but he is 100 percent of the reason I vowed to never look back.

I’ve never forgotten how it felt to follow Dean—dangerous, daring, determined—away from the crowd and climb into his beat-up old Trans Am. I was sixteen and gloriously alive for the first time. When I felt his hand cover my leg and move upward, it was over. I was his. Forever.

Until I left. Him, my mom, and the trailer park. Without so much as a goodbye.

Now Dean’s back, crashing uninvited into my carefully cultivated, neat little lawyerly life. Eight years behind bars have turned him rougher and bigger—and more sexually demanding than any man I’ve ever met. I can’t deny him anything…and that just might end up costing me everything.

  • Not Always a Saint

Not Always a Saint by Mary Jo Putney

Not Always a Saint by Mary Jo Putney is $1.99 at Amazon and Kobo! Hopefully, it’ll be price matched elsewhere. This is also the most recent release in the Lost Lords series and was mentioned on a previous podcast. Many readers loved the hero and heroine separately, but found things lacking in their romance. Several of the other Lost Lords books are also on sale!

After the death of his sweetheart when he was at university, Daniel Herbert buried his grief in medical studies and his passion for healing. Viewed as a saint by those who know him, in his own mind, he never quite manages to live up to his own high standards.

Most men would be thrilled to learn they’ve inherited a title and estate from a distant relative, but Daniel is appalled because the burden of wealth will interfere with his medical calling. Warily he accepts that he must enter society and seek a wife—a sensible woman who can oversee his properties, leaving him free to continue his work. He does not expect to become intoxicated by a woman called the Black Widow, who is as mysterious as she is shockingly beautiful…

Jessie Kelham’s looks have always been a curse. Now alone with a young daughter and a perilous secret, she is in need of protection. But dangerously attractive Daniel Herbert is not the kind of husband she has in mind. If he recognizes her, the demons of her past will surely erupt. Yet they cannot keep apart—and soon they are drawn into a union that may bring joy—or shattering danger…

  • The Forgetting

    The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron

The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron is $2.99! This is a book that was included in Elyse’s Uppercase Box subscription. Readers loved how there were some great plot twists that they didn’t see coming, but others thought there was too much stuff wrapped up in the abrupt ending. Have you read this one?

What isn’t written, isn’t remembered. Even your crimes.

Nadia lives in the city of Canaan, where life is safe and structured, hemmed in by white stone walls and no memory of what came before. But every twelve years the city descends into the bloody chaos of the Forgetting, a day of no remorse, when each person’s memories – of parents, children, love, life, and self – are lost. Unless they have been written.

In Canaan, your book is your truth and your identity, and Nadia knows exactly who hasn’t written the truth. Because Nadia is the only person in Canaan who has never forgotten.

But when Nadia begins to use her memories to solve the mysteries of Canaan, she discovers truths about herself and Gray, the handsome glassblower, that will change her world forever. As the anarchy of the Forgetting approaches, Nadia and Gray must stop an unseen enemy that threatens both their city and their own existence – before the people can forget the truth. And before Gray can forget her.

  • The Outcast Prince

The Outcast Prince by Shona Husk

The Outcast Prince by Shona Husk is $1.99! This is a paranormal romance with a fae hero and it’s the first book in the Court of Annwyn series. Reader thought the relationship moved at a pretty quick pace and some of the dialogue was eye-roll worthy. However, others loved Husk’s worldbuilding and the setting of Charleston.

Caspian Mort can feel the history in anything he touches, a gift he inherited from his father, the Crown Prince of Annwyn. Devastated over his ex-wife’s infidelity, Caspian has withdrawn from human contact except when working as an antiques dealer.

While assessing the contents of the historic Callaway House he encounters the beautiful Lydia Callaway and senses that her home is haunted by a banished fairy. But what does the dangerous exile want? Unbeknownst to Lydia, she’s the owner of the last remaining portal to Annwyn—a mirror hidden somewhere in the house. To keep Lydia safe, Caspian will have to divulge the secrets of his heritage, and risk losing his heart again.

  1. Dora says:

The second book in that Time Served series makes me sad, because since the title is In Her Defense, I thought it would be about the hero being the high-priced, sheltered lawyer, and the heroine being the criminal (and ideally ACTUALLY A CRIMINAL like so many of the broody male characters instead of a damsel in distress who is wrongfully accused), but nope. Still, will have to check out the first one. Sounds like my cuppa.

  2. Gigi says:

@Dora I found the second book disappointing and I disliked the hero intensely but Time Served kept me up until the wee hours. It was crazy good.
