  • Six Degrees of Scandal

Six Degrees of Scandal by Caroline Linden

RECOMMENDED: Six Degrees of Scandal by Caroline Linden is $3.99! There are several other Avon historicals available for $3.99 from Beverly Jenkins, Sarah MacLean, and others! Redheadedgirl gave this book an A:

Linden never, ever skimps on the communication aspect, especially when she’s worked a Big Misunderstanding into the plot. And this Big Misunderstanding is pretty freakin’ big – James thought there was time before they needed to get married, Olivia thought James had left her, and the ramifications of not using all of their words are huge. (Mostly this is on James’ head – he’s a dude, so in this scenario he has all the power.) It takes time and communication to sort through the mess before they can even begin to contemplate a HEA.

Olivia Townsend is in trouble and out of options. Pursued by a dangerous man in search of a lost treasure she doesn’t possess, she’s got only two things in her favor: her late husband’s diary, which she was never meant to see… and the man who was her first—and only—love. Losing him broke her heart, though she’s been careful to hide it for the last ten years. But when he comes to her aid and vows to stand by her, no matter what, she can’t help but hope things will be different for them this time.

James Weston has blamed himself for letting Olivia down when she needed him years ago, and now he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe—and to win her trust again. He’s confident he can outwit the villain chasing Olivia. But being so near her again threatens to expose every secret in his heart … even those that he swore would stay hidden forever.

  • Sweetest Regret

    Sweetest Regret by Meredith Duran

Sweetest Regret by Meredith Duran is available for preorder for 99c! This is a second chance holiday romance novella and was originally published in an anthology. The novella is due out at the end of November, which is perfect for those who like to do some holiday reading. And, since it’s set at a house party, it seems like the perfect candidate for our Historical House Party Rec League!

The spirit of the season is festive—and clouding even the sharpest of judgments—in this Victorian era romance, perfect for fans of Jude Deveraux and Sabrina Jeffries.

At a house party in the countryside, the joyful spirit of the Christmas season threatens to sweep Georgiana Trent under the mistletoe—and back into the arms of the dashing rogue who broke her heart two years ago. Little does she know that Lucas Godwin has no intention of leaving until he has reclaimed her as his own.

  • The Princess and the Pea

The Princess and the Pea by Victoria Alexander

The Princess and the Pea by Victoria Alexander is $3.99 at limited retailers! This $3.99 sale from Avon will hopefully be price-matched because jeez. Some readers thought the heroine was a bit all over the place, while others loved the American heiress meets British nobleman trope. Have you read this one?

The classic tale of a fervent courtship between an American heiress and a dashing British earl from #1 New York Timesbestselling author Victoria Alexander

Feel the pea through this bed and win the heart of the man you’ll wed.

A true American princess, Cecily White stood to inherit her father’s business empire. And with the twentieth century right around the corner, the independent beauty had no intention of marrying some foreign nobleman seeking her money. Then, on a trip to England, Cece fell under the spell of a dashing peer who had more to recommend him than the length of his title and the size of his countinghouse. But Cece wouldn’t surrender her heart to the virile Earl of Graystone until he proved that the only treasure he wanted was her love.

  • A Lady and Her Magic

A Lady and Her Magic by Tammy Falkner

A Lady and Her Magic by Tammy Falkner is $1.99! This is a historical romance with fantasy elements, though the angle of the heroine on the cover is annoying the heck out of me. The heroine is also a fairy godmother of sorts. Some readers disagreed about the fantasy elements in the book. There were those that loved it, while others thought there was too much.

Rules Are Made to be Disobeyed…

Sophia Thorne is new to the Regency’s glittering high society, which resembles her magical homeland only insofar as both places are filled with ridiculous rules. Which means no matter where she goes, she’s bound for trouble…

And Scandals Are Meant to be Shocking…

The Duke of Robinsworth has flaunted and shocked society for years. In a moment of fateful mischief, Robinsworth encounters the enchanting and distinctly scandalous Sophia. Between her streak of magical mischief and his penchant for scandal, they’re about to take rule-breaking to a whole new level…

A second chance, house party, holiday story by Meredith Duran? Sweetest Regret was just added to my holiday TBR file.

  2. I really love Meredith Duran’s books, and I find that they fall into two categories: dark, angsty, rip-your-heart-out-and-leave-you-sobbing (At Your Pleasure, holy shit that book was amazing); or light and fluffy (Your Wicked Heart). I enjoy them both, but I like to know what I’m getting into before I start them so I can fortify myself if they’re the first variety. If anyone in the Bitchery has had a chance to read Sweetest Regret, can you tell me which category it falls into? Based on the holiday house party setting, I would guess light and fluffy, but the title and cover have me doubting my judgment.

  3. CelineB says:

Secrets of a Soprano by Miranda Neville is .99 everywhere. I like Neville’s books, but I have seen some reviews that say this book isn’t the quality of other Neville books.

  4. Vicki says:

Is it nit picky of me to say that it bothers me when people say flaunt society when they mean flout society?

  5. No, the Other Anne says:

    @Vicki It is not!

  6. Virginia E says:

Princess and the Pea was originally released in 1996. I probably have the original paperback somewhere, but I can’t put my hands on it at the second.

  7. Karenmc says:

Dread Pirate Rachel, Sweetest Regret is light and semi-fluffy. There is regret and a sense of betrayal, but since it’s a novella, there’s no space for extended, sob-enducing angst. Hope that helps.

  8. Meredith says:

Does anyone know what anthology The Sweetest Regret was originally published in?

  9. Karenmc says:

Meredith, it’s in last year’s What Happens Under the Mistletoe.

  10. Katie Lynn says:

Unwrapping Her Perfect Match by Kat Latham is free right now. Novella length installment of her rugby series, but stands well by itself. I read it last year, it’s pretty good.
