Links: Knitting, Library Fundraisers, & Sex Ed

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday! Time for some links! I also hope you’ve got some great books lined up for weekend reading. Maybe something a little spooky for October.

You can thank Elyse for this link! Knit Picks is doing a “12 Weeks of Gifting.” They’ll release one free pattern a week for twelve weeks to help get a jumpstart on holiday knitting! The first pattern is a really cute Fair Isle sweater.

Sarah is going to be at NOLA StoryCon this weekend. So if you’re planning on attending, be sure to say hi! She’s signing on Saturday and she’s sharing a table with the always amazing Beverly Jenkins!

Reader Meena sent us a link to this awesome library fundraiser called Author Confidential, where individuals can bid to ask some of their favorite authors questions. Here’s Meena’s description:

It’s a chance to ask some of their favorite authors 3 questions, and if they have the high bid, the author sends them a letter with the responses. We have some of the best romance authors out there – Nora Roberts, Diana Gabaldon, Linda Howard, Julia Quinn and more!

The bidding doesn’t begin until October 23rd, so that gives you plenty of time to think of what three questions you’d want to ask!

Sarah’s Hanukkah novella, Lighting the Flames, is now available on Bookshare! Bookshare is a digital library of accessible content for individuals with print disabilities. If you’re a Bookshare member, she hopes you enjoy it!

Elyse and I were recently interviewed for Meld Magazine on what romance has taught us about sex. Big thanks to Natalie Ng for reaching out and including us:

I have always been a romance reader, enjoying classics like Jane Austen to modern writers like Nora Roberts, but only plunged fully into the genre about two years ago when a group of friends and I started a little community online reading and sharing romance novels.

And it is through reading romance that I have learnt about sex — or rather specifically about female sexuality — as well as the diverse spectrum of sexualities, sexual experiences, preferences and misconceptions around certain sexual kinks.

In my journey through romance reading, I came across Smart Bitches Trashy Books (SBTB), an online hub dedicated to the romance community. In producing this piece on romance fiction, I sought out Elyse Discher and Amanda Diehl, two of the ladies who help run SBTB, for their opinions of the portrayal of sex in romance novels and how their perspectives were shaped by it.

Definitely check out the full interview for our thoughts, as well as more on Natalie’s romance reading journey.

iGo Keyjuice Keyring

The iGo is an itty bitty tool that unfolds to one USB connection, plus a USB and a USB Micro, so you can plug your phone into your laptop, or into a portable battery. Excellent for tiny emergency kits, too.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

The library fundraiser is awesome. I will definitely be bidding, on several authors!

  2. Meg says:

I missed a lot of these last year, so I’m really glad I got on board with the 12 weeks of free patterns already this year.
