  • A Promise of Fire

A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet

RECOMMENDED: A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet is $4.99! Thanks to Ren for the heads up yesterday. I absolutely loved this book and it’s the best book I’ve read so far this year. And while it’s not our typical less than $4 sale price, it’s definitely worth the extra buck. I gave the book an A:

I can say, without a doubt, that A Promise of Fire is going on my keeper shelf. I want more of these characters and I want more of this world. I cannot remember the last time I wanted to both savor and devour a book, and Bouchet’s writing is so engaging and magical that I wish she had some sort of backlist I could dive into for the next few months. If you’re even slightly tempted by this review or from the chapter one excerpt, buy this book. Because I need more people to discuss it with, pronto!

KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER…

“Cat” Catalia Fisa lives disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus. She is perfectly content avoiding the danger and destiny the Gods—and her homicidal mother—have saddled her with. That is, until Griffin, an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south, fixes her with his steely gaze and upsets her illusion of safety forever.

BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT

Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker, the woman who divines the truth through lies. He wants her as a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm—until he realizes he wants her for much more than her magic. Cat fights him at every turn, but Griffin’s fairness, loyalty, and smoldering advances make him increasingly hard to resist and leave her wondering if life really does have to be short, and lived alone.

  • Named of the Dragon

Named of the Dragon by Susanna Kearsley

Named of the Dragon by Susanna Kearsley is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price matched! In true Kearsley fashion, this book has a little bit of everything – history, romance, mystery. Some readers say this book has a bit more of a Gothic edge than her other works, which they liked. But some felt it wasn’t as balanced of a story as they were used to. Have you read this one?

A haunting tale of intrigue from New York Times bestselling author Susanna Kearsley.

Although it goes against her workaholic nature, literary agent Lyn Ravenshaw lets herself be whisked off to Wales for the Christmas holidays by her star client, flamboyant children’s author Bridget Cooper. She suspects Bridget has ulterior motives, but the lure of South Wales with its castles and myths is irresistible. Perhaps a change of scene will bring relief from the nightmares that have plagued her since the death of her child.

Lyn immerses herself in the peace and quiet of the charming Welsh village, but she soon meets an eccentric young widow who’s concerned her baby son is in danger—and inexplicably thinks Lyn is the child’s protector.

Lyn’s dreams become more and more disturbing as she forms a surprisingly warm friendship with a reclusive, brooding playwright, and is pulled into an ancient world of Arthurian legend and dangerous prophecies. Before she can escape her nightmares, she must uncover the secret of her dreams, which is somehow inextricably located in a time long ago and far away…

  • Last First Kiss

Last First Kiss by Lia Riley

Last First Kiss by Lia Riley is 99c! It’s the first book in the Brightwater series. A second chance AND small town romance, the blogger, single mother heroine returns to her “one-cow” hometown only to run into her first love. Those readers hoping for some angst though should probably look elsewhere, as many reviewers described the romance as sweet and quirky. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads. The next two books in the series are also on sale!

A kiss is only the beginning…

Pinterest Perfect. Or so Annie Carson’s life appears on her popular blog. Reality is… messier. Especially when it lands her back in one-cow town, Brightwater, California, and back in the path of the gorgeous six-foot-four reason she left. Sawyer Kane may fill out those wranglers, but she won’t be distracted from her task. Annie just needs the summer to spruce up and sell her family’s farm so she and her young son can start a new life in the big city. Simple, easy, perfect.

Sawyer has always regretted letting the first girl he loved slip away. He won’t make the same mistake twice, but can he convince beautiful, wary Annie to trust her heart again when she’s been given every reason not to? And as a single kiss turns to so much more, can Annie give up her idea of perfect for a forever that’s blissfully real.

  • Game for Romance Boxed Set

Game for Romance Boxed Set by Pamela Aares

Game for Romance Boxed Set by Pamela Aares is 99c! This set features four contemporary romance with a mixture of heroes and heroines: baseball players, single dad, veterinarians, Parisian socialites, and more. There’s also a whale rescue, which is something I felt like I just needed to mention.

From USA Today Bestselling author Pamela Aares, the first FOUR full length captivating romances in the Tavonesi Series. An heiress in hiding, a Parisian socialite, a smart team owner and a daring veterinarian–will these spirited heroines discover that All-Star, rock-hard bodies hide big hearts and the promise of true love?

    BOOK 1: LOVE BATS LAST
In LOVE BATS LAST, All-Star first baseman Alex Tavonesi has his hands full: he inherits the family vineyard and
is fighting to win one of baseball’s most coveted honors, the Triple Crown. But when he meets veterinarian Jackie Brandon by chance in a midnight storm and helps her rescue a stranded whale, the love she ignites derails all his careful practices and plans.

    BOOK 2: THROWN BY LOVE
In THROWN BY LOVE, ace pitcher Scotty Donovan has been traded from his longtime team—and hates it. But to his surprise, he now finds himself in the sweetest game of his life: winning the heart of smart, sexy physics professor Chloe McNalley. But when she inherits the team he plays for, following his heart could ruin his career.

    BOOK 3: FIELDER’S CHOICE
In FIELDER’S CHOICE, All-Star shortstop Matt Darrington has more than a problem. His wife died, and now he’s juggling a too-smart-for-her-britches six-year-old and the grueling pace of professional baseball. Worse, his daughter is mom shopping. When they explore a local ranch, she decides the beautiful, free-spirited tour guide is premium mom material. Matt thinks the sexy guide looks like Grade-A trouble. When love’s in the game you can’t play it safe…

BOOK 4: LOVE ON THE LINE
In LOVE ON THE LINE, heiress Cara Barrington fled the opulent world of her rich and famous family to carve out an idyllic existence on the California Coast. In the sleepy town of Albion Bay, she’s embraced the simple way of living she’s always craved. No one knows her identity, and she’s free from the pressures of wealth . . . until her sexy new neighbor threatens the unpretentious world she’s worked so hard to build.

So I got A Promise of Fire and Named of the Dragon. The top review quote for A Promise of Fire is Amanda’s comment about it going on her keeper shelf.

  2. KateB says:

I did it. I bought “A Promise of Fire.” Very excited.

I read “Named of the Dragon” last week, it’d been sitting on my Kindle since the last time it was on sale. It was okay. It had all the things I like about a Kearsley book, but the charactization wasn’t as strong as her later stuff, and the romance was a very small part of the story.

  3. Susan says:

I read Named of the Dragon a few weeks ago and, as I mentioned on the latest Whatcha Reading post, I’ve already largely forgotten it. I guess it’s really for Kearsley fans looking to complete their collections rather than a starting point for new readers.

  4. Violet Bick says:

For Carolyn Jewel fans, I saw on Amazon that she has a boxed set for 99c, Historical Jewels. It contains three books: The Spare, Scandal, and Indiscreet.
