Summer Knitting Giveaway

Summertime is the perfect time for crafting.

Knitting might seem like a cold-weather hobby what with all the mittens, hats, and scarves, but as the resident Stitchy Bitch here, I can tell you that we knitters work on projects year round and sometimes in unlikely places. I’m a big fan of beach knitting, myself.

To celebrate our crafty readers we’ll be doing three giveaways this summer, each featuring a different creative hobby.

The theme for June is knitting because I picked it and frankly, I’m biased.

A llama zip tote, some beautiful yarn, a knitting bag, and two books - all summer long by dot frank and the last summer by judith kinghorn

Beach knitting is the best knitting--especially when you're too pale to tan!
Beach knitting is the best knitting–especially when you cannot tan!

Here’s what’s included:

  • A Jane Austen project bag that features  quote from the lady herself, “She taught me to knit, which has been a great amusement.”
  • A Llamarama zip-top tool bag that would ideal for storing yarn needles, a tape measure, a small pair of scissors and other odds and ends.
  • A skein of yarn from one of my favorite indie dyers, Destination Yarns. All of their yarn colors are inspired by travel, and this particular color, Northern Lights, is GORGEOUS.The skein is 400 yards of fingering weight 100% super wash merino wool. If you are a sock knitter, let me tell you, this yarn is the shit. You could also make a shawlette or cowl or a hat.
  • A tin of Love and Leche’s Lavendar Mint Anywhere Balm. You can use it on your lips, your hands, or to polish the chest of your own romance hero.
  • A neon green sheep. This sheep serves no purpose but dammit, he’s awesome.
  • And of course there are books! You also get a copy of The Last Summer by Judith Klinghorn and All Summer Long by Dorothea Benton Frank.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to knit, purl, and kick ass. Exposure to knitting has been known to cause addiction and terrifying yarn storage habits. Knitting discretion is advised. Yarn envy is a serious condition and should be remedied as soon as possible. Knitting side effects may include SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy); please contact your local knitting circle immediately if you or someone you know has reached this state. Comments will close and a winner will be chosen at random on Friday, 10 June at noon EST.

To enter just leave a comment below telling us where you plan to knit this summer. The beach? The cabin? Your backyard? Please share! And good luck!

UPDATE: The winner is Jess, who picked her own back porch for a great knitting spot!

  1. infinitieh says:

Backyard most likely. The oranges are coming in nicely.

  2. Avital Ordan says:

On the plane to London, and I’ll crochet

  3. This summer I plan to do a lot of knitting out in the garden! I’ve already started, knitting with a friend in the garden last week after a picnic, and it was blissful. 🙂

  4. Anony Miss says:

    This summer, I would like to knit….in a blizzard…. In a cabin…by a fire.

But instead I’ll be home in 99 degree heat. Languish, languish.

  5. Jennifer says:

As I am in Australia, we are heading into Winter (there are wild storms expected) so I won’t be knitting out doors in the near future. If it was summer, I would be knitting on the verandah of the beach house, but as it is winter, I will be knitting indoors, at a writer’s festival.

We are heading Europe for a holiday, so I will be knitting, and cross stitching, on the plane.

  6. Francesca says:

In my girl-cave, surrounded by my books, my music and my computer.

  7. catses says:

On a ten-hour railway journey to Scotland!

  8. Lammie says:

I am teaching myself to knit, so I will be knitting in my comfy chair, next to my knitting reference books.

  9. KristinMH says:

The backyard once I get a comfortable chair back there! Also I’m going to try to figure out how to knit in the hammock.

  10. Virginia E says:

I’ll be crocheting at home since I can’t afford to travel anywhere. My oldest sister, however, is part of a knitting group in the Midwest. One of their pet projects is knitting baby caps for newborns being discharged from hospitals. She keeps her work bag handy wherever she goes.

  11. Amy Renee says:

I’m hoping to get some knitting done on a long, boring car ride I have coming up – the only time I can sit still for an extended length of time

  12. Diane says:

I’ll be knitting while I’m bingewatching “The Sopranos”.

  13. Heidi says:

In my comfy chair while watching TV — where I knit all year round. Wait. Going to change my answer to a secluded mountain cabin with some hot guy saying in an admiring tone, “Girl, your purls are all that and a bushel of peaches.”

  14. Harper Gray says:

Stitchy Bitch! I love it! I also love the Llamarama bag. That is just the most adorable ever. Also the sheep. Just so much awesome in that picture.

I will probably be knitting on my comfy couch while I hide from the sun and myriad deadlines. Although I did recently realise that my town has a knitting café (as in, a café that doubles as a knitting shop and also runs knitting-themed events), so I will most definitely be trying them out. Especially if they have air conditioning. I am not made for warm climates.

  15. Konst. says:

On the S-bahn, on my way to work (and back), looking forward to colder seasons and fervently wishing for air condition…

  16. Phoebe Cameron says:

most likely on the deck or the standard in my cozy chair in the living room…not a lot of excited chez nous.

  17. SandyH says:

For me our back porch. It is peaceful there.

  18. Cait says:

    Definitely on my porch! 🙂

  19. Lostshadows says:

In the direct line of fire of the window fan in the dining room. (Hides crochet hooks.)

  20. Vera K says:

Any knitting I do this summer will be inside – in air conditioning!!

  21. Cathy says:

I love knitting at camp, by the pond.

  22. Marybeth says:

Likely on a plane! And in the airport. And in other hopefully air conditioned locales.

  23. Gail says:

Anywhere with AC is a good place to knit 🙂

  24. SandyL says:

I will be knitting in Virginia on 5 acres just outside Charlottesville at Hotel Williamson–where the babysitting and food are free!

    SandyL

  25. Lynda says:

If the question was “where are you NOT going to knit” it would be much easier for me to answer!

  26. KPM says:

I will be knitting in my backyard, in the car,and at my Mom’s place. I knit year round and have several projects that need to be done this summer. Love the wool and the sheep! I wants it!!

  27. Jean Russell says:

In the backyard, when my family all come to visit next month. It helps me stay sane, and gives me a pointy weapon, just in case.

  28. Courtney says:

On my screened-in porch. Thanks for the chance to win!

  29. Sophydc says:

On my couch and on the patio when it is nice out.

  30. Zoë says:

I’ll be knitting on my back porch with my roommates sipping sangria (because sangria makes everything better)

  31. Megan Larsen says:

Knitting in the house with my AC cranked up (thanks Texas). Working on the Wilshire Shawl in Malabrigo lace.

  32. Jcscot says:

Out in my garden, watching the children play and trying not to drop too many stitches!

  33. Lauren says:

I’ll knit with the Ac on full blast this summer.

  34. Erica H says:

I will knit while enjoying music and/or television.

  35. Meredith says:

I plan to knit on the couch…in the air conditioning.

  36. Kim W says:

I haven’t been knitting much lately because it takes away from my reading time but this is very tempting.

  37. Stacy Noyes says:

My back yard and my couch

  38. Katie D. says:

Planes, trains, and automobiles! And my couch since I finally cleaned that off yesterday 😉

  39. SamC says:

In a cabin by the sea with any luck!

  40. Marissa Backlin says:

I usually sit on my comfortable chair in the living room with a tall mug of tea and a comfort show on Netflix. 🙂
