Summer Cross Stitch Giveaway

Hello fellow Stitchy Bitches! It’s time for another summer crafting giveaway, this time for our cross stitching readers.

Bag, kits, tea, books and a really awesome cross stitch book

Included in this giveaway are:

  • A Bucilla Bluebird counted cross stitch kit. This kit includes floss, needles, aida cloth and the pattern–everything you need for the project. The finished piece measures 10 X 8″.
  • A copy of Subversive Cross Stitch: 50 F*cking Clever Designs For Your Sassy Side by Julie Jackson. This book of patterns is full of swears and humor. I’ve personally made the “Do Not Fuck With Me” sampler complete with bunnies and duckies.
  • A Folklore pencil bag by Now Designs. This would be great for storing needles, scissors, and your other notions.
  • An Italia Shopper bag. This bag is so cool because it measures 18″ wide by 19″ long when open but folds down to 4.5″ by 6.5″. This bag would be great for carrying your cross stitch project or for taking to the farmer’s market or local craft fair.
  • A needlework blank pendant by Red Gate Stitchery. This 1.75″ by 1.25″ pendant has holes in it that allow you to stitch your own design to wear. The chain is 29.”
  • A 25g tube of Crabtree and Evelyn’s Gardeners Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy cream. Crafters need to keep their hands in good condition, and I keep a tube of this in my purse and my nightstand. It has a subtle herbal smell to it–not too flowery or overpowering.
  • 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Pure Ice Tea. This black tea can be used to make iced or hot tea, but it’s less cloudy when steeping than most loose leaf black teas, making it ideal for icing.
  • 1 oz of Fava Tea Company’s Decaf Peach Berry Green tea. I drink iced tea all summer and hot tea all winter. This fruity blend contains sweet peach and pineapple pieces, red Rooibos and hibiscus. It’s decaf so perfect for evening sipping.
  • The entire Wicked Quills series by Eva Leigh. Woo-boy did we love this Regency series! The books are Forever Your Earl, Scandal Takes the Stage and Temptations of a Wallflower.

Standard disclaimers apply: we are not being compensated for this giveaway except that Elyse got to go shopping which is very fun. Void where prohibited. Open to international residents where permitted by applicable law. Must be over 18 and ready to stitch all the things, including potentially bunnies, duckies, and cuss words. Cross stitch can be addictive, almost as addictive as knitting, and those considering trying this at home should be cautious. Purchasing embroidery floss is also addictive. You’ve been warned. Comments will close around noon EDT Friday 1 July and winner announced later that same day.

To enter leave a comment below and tell us what you watch or listen to while you stitch. I’m a big fan of knitting while catching up on podcasts or listening to audio books. Do you jam out to death metal? Binge watch Netflix? Let us know!

UPDATE: The winner is Tonya K! Thanks to all who commented!

  1. Lynn Abigail says:

I watch Netflix, usually rewatching my fave series (Miss Fisher!) ☺

  2. infinitieh says:

I leave the TV on, preferably on the Disney Channel.

  3. Harrowgate says:

Audiobooks. Tons and tons of audiobooks. I adore reading in a way that allows me to multitask. Read and knit. Read and cross stitch. Read and clean (okay, not often). Read and cook….. read and read and read.

  4. JulieK says:

Podcasts mostly (NPR, Gimlet). Or the sounds of nature and my husband swearing at his woodworking projects…

  5. Irene Headley says:

Episodes of British crime dramas from the early 200s. They’re two hours long without ads, so if something goes wrong and I forget to pause, I don’t miss much.

  6. Lena says:

I’m currently cross-stitching an Edmonton Oilers jersey (*spit* My friends have terrible taste in teams) while watching Doctor Who from Christopher Eccleston onwards.

  7. Lifetime movies. They’re a guilty pleasure at times when I don’t want to think about what I’m listening to.

  8. Helen says:

    Well, as much as a good audiobook would be my preference, I mostly stitch whilst the sport is on. F1 = 3 hours uninterrupted crafting time whilst him indoors is kept out of mischief! :}

  9. Sarah says:

What an awesome giveaway! I normally listen to podcasts while I stitch. If I have the tv on it has to be something I’ve seen a million times so it doesn’t distract me from my stitching, which is why podcasts are ideal, especially the Smart Bitches podcast 😉

  10. TaraR says:

I don’t stitch, knit or crochet, but my mom loves it. She’s been more into crocheting recently, but her cross-stitch pieces are hung all over our living room. She usually watches TV while she’s stitching–anything from musical reality shows to Pakistani melodramas.

  11. Persnickety says:

I stitch while watching tv- watching unreal and twin peaks at the moment (I can’t watch more than two episodes of each in a row).

While traveling I tend to stitch while listening to audio books- Terry Pratchett is my current favourite.

  12. Harper Gray says:

I can’t do words while I’m stitching or knitting; it’s my version of not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time, I guess. For some reason video game music is really fun to work to, though, so I’ll time my crafting to when my husband plays his video games.

  13. Jeanie says:

I watch AFL, which is Australian Rules Football. It’s fast paced, excited, allows me to shout and swear a lot and watch 36 guys with big muscles and short shorts play. It’s very addictive and strangely, couples nicely with stitching.

  14. kbrum says:

the bbc 1995 pride and prejudice collection. with version with jennifer ehle and colin firth. the opening theme shows a gorgeous embroidery project in the making so i get my own projects out too for a sew-along.

  15. GHN says:

I listen to music! I have a quite eclectic collection on my PC, and am currently rebuilding my playlists, which is a good excuse for digging into the more obscure corners of my collection.

  16. Another Kate says:

When I’m sewing or stitching, I like watching movies that I’ve seen so many times before that I don’t really need to pay attention – Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice (1995 version) would be the top contenders!

  17. Frida says:

Great giveaway! I can’t concentrate on a book AND stitching (or driving/running/cleaning/cooking/whatever) at the same time so it’s usually music for me. (This is why audiobooks take me forever!) A lot of Muse and Adele at the moment.

  18. SandyL says:

I would either watch my video blogs or (finally!) start season one of Arrow or Penny Dreadful.

  19. Helen R-S says:

I usually listen to music when doing any kind of sewing/knitting – I can’t concentrate on anything with a storyline and not stuff up my craftwork. My preference is 60s/70s/80s music.

  20. Francesca says:

I usually watch documentaries or anime.

  21. Lindsay says:

Binge watch murder mysteries on Netflix/Hulu, Murdoch Mysteries, Miss Fisher, New Tricks, etc

  22. Sophydc says:

Such an awesome giveaway! I love listening to audio books (Terry Pratchett is my favorite) while stitching.

  23. Kate Nepveu says:

Undemanding TV–I got through all of Stargate Atlantis this way! And better stuff, like Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

  24. Nicole says:

I sometimes watch tv, but more often listen to podcasts or audiobooks. I was binge-listening to the new Radiolab spinoff, More Perfect Union, just the other day and it was awesome.

  25. Jennifer says:

This weekend I cross stitched while listening to episode 200 of Smart Podcast Trashy books – but I had to keep stopping while I laughed…

I often listen to audiobooks or podcasts, but agree with Jeanie that Aussie Rules football is a good accompaniment to stitching, either on TV or live at the ground.

  26. Samantha says:

I normally have something from food network on, most recently, Cutthroat Kitchen.

  27. Lammie says:

I like to listen to audiobooks or “watch” old movies on TV on Turner Classic Movies. The only problem with watching is sometimes I forget where I am in the pattern. I am good at removing stitches.

  28. Gemma says:

I mostly stitch while I watch TV. Sometimes while listening to podcasts.

  29. Gillian says:

I usually binge watch lifestyle shows while sewing, location, location, location, grand designs, escape to the country.

It’s all the happening haps at my house .

  30. sara darling says:

Back episodes of British panel shows on YouTube – favorites are QI, and Mock the Week.

  31. Elizabeth Lopez says:

I just recently finished three small baby blankets while watching Game of Thrones, Poldark, and Castle. I love to binge watch while using my hands.

  32. Lostshadows says:

Mostly audiobooks, but I’ve done a bunch of crafting while catching up on the SB podcast. TV is too distracting for me.

  33. Lisa M says:

Currently finishing up watch The Good Wife. It’s so good.

  34. Sheryl says:

Strangely enough, I usually end up watching the news channels. Or History, if there’s a good series on like Barbarians or the World Wars.

    Gotta stitch, gotta live!

    🙂

  35. Amber says:

I made a cross stitch project for my dad for his birthday, and I stayed up way too late at night watching “The Office” and “Arrested Development” on Netflix. There might have been some “Veronica Mars” thrown in, too.

  36. Kim W says:

I can watch anything while stitching. I always have to do something else while the tv is on.

  37. Julia aka mizzelle says:

Mostly listen to podcasts or audiobooks lately. I listened to a whole chunk of the SB podcast backlog that way! Switching between distance and reading glasses has made it difficult to stitch while watching sports… alas. (My Olympics cross stitching time is going be severely tested this summer.)

  38. Alberthe says:

Audio books, podcasts (How Stuff Works in some form or other) or TV-series (right now I’m watching The Affair and How to Get Away with Murder). I get very restless if I don’t have my hands AND my ears/eyes occupied at the same time, so I never sit down to just knit/stitch without something else going on. Cue sweaters with one row of the pattern moved three stitches to the left;)

  39. susan says:

I pass the time at my son’s activities (karate, swimming) by knitting.

  40. Kristen says:

I like to watch crime/mystery shows like Miss Fisher, Luther, Inspector Lewis, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, etc. That way if it gets scary I have an excuse to look down at my knitting or stitching.
