  • When a Scot Ties the Knot

When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare

RECOMMENDED: When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare is 99c! Thanks to everyone who gave us a shoutout about this deal! Elyse loved this book so much and gave it an A:

Everything about When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare worked for me. Everything. Bust out the squee mop, y’all because this review is just going to be a flappy-hands Good Book Noise® mess.

    Things this book has:

    1. A sexy Scot hero I pictured as Sam Heughan.

    2. A heroine who is a naturalist and illustrator.

    3. Tons of UST.

    4. A completely crazy sauce plot that Dare pulls off flawlessly.

    5. A missing lobster.

On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shyly pretty and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart.

A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter … and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.

Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep—handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He’s wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters… and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.

  • The Game Plan

The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan

RECOMMENDED: The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan is 99c at Amazon and iBooks! Thanks to Reader Peggy for the heads up! I loved this book and its bearded football-playing beta hero. After reading the book, I gave it an A, though it touched a personal nerve and made me weep like  baby:

I mentioned on Twitter that sometimes you find a book that really reminds you of why you love a certain genre, be it romance or scifi or whatever. For me, The Game Plan really reminded me why I love this community – the authors, the readers, all of it.

A beard-related dare and one hot-as-hell kiss changes everything.

NFL center Ethan Dexter’s focus has always been on playing football and little else. Except when it comes to one particular woman. The lovely Fiona Mackenzie might not care about his fame, but she’s also never looked at him as anything more than one of her brother-in-law’s best friends. That ends now.

Fi doesn’t know what to make of Dex. The bearded, tattooed, mountain of man-muscle looks more like a biker than a football player. Rumor has it he’s a virgin, but she finds that hard to believe. Because from the moment he decides to turn his quiet intensity on her she’s left weak at the knees and aching to see his famous control fully unleashed.

Fi ought to guard her heart and walk away; they live vastly different lives in separate cities. And Dex is looking for a forever girl. But Dex has upped his game and is using all his considerable charm to convince Fi he’s her forever man.

  • Bringing Delaney Home

Bringing Delaney Home by Lee Kilraine

Bringing Delaney Home by Lee Kilraine is 99c! This book was mentioned in a previous podcast and in February’s Hide Your Wallet post. Some complaints on Goodreads were that the scenes and chapters felt disjointed at times, which kept readers from connecting with the characters. However, others loved the hero and heroine’s personalities. Is this on your TBR list?

In the sleepy town of Climax, North Carolina, all five Cates brothers are known for being tall, dark, and delicious. But each has his own incomparable love story…Quinn Cates has known Delaney Lyons forever. But after years away from home, Delaney’s a changed woman. A mysterious accident she refuses to talk about has left her hurting–in body and soul–and acting out in dangerous, and occasionally entertaining, ways.

Quinn’s on the local police force, so he’s used to dealing with troublemakers. This one’s pretty incorrigible–but he suspects her flippant exterior is hiding something softer and deeper inside. Every time he has to rescue Delaney from herself, his heart and his hormones both go into overdrive. But he owes it to Delaney’s sister to keep an eye on her. He’s got some experience with that after spending so much time at it back in high school…

Delaney just wants to fend off the gossips, fight off the pain of her past, and make her escape once again. But Officer Cates is ordering her not to leave town, and his interrogation techniques can be very persuasive…

  • Necessary Risk

    Necessary Risk by Tara Wyatt

Necessary Risk by Tara Wyatt is $2.99! Holy biceps, Batman! This is a romantic suspense and the first in the Bodyguard series. The heroine is a former child star hoping to make a come back. Readers thought this was a great debut with fun dialogue, while others didn’t buy the immediate attraction between the hero and heroine. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.

Trained to protect against all danger, a professional bodyguard can provide all the muscle a woman needs. But when their hearts are on the line, love is the riskiest business . . .

    SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME

Former child star Sierra Blake is making a stunning Hollywood comeback-and attracting a scary amount of attention. When her home is vandalized and her safety threatened, she knows it’s time to bring in the professionals. But from the moment she sets eyes on her indecently sexy new bodyguard, Sierra’s thoughts are anything but professional . . .

Few things in this world scare Sean Owens-until he realizes he’s in serious danger of losing his heart to his new client. No matter how much he wants to, Sean won’t let his feelings for the smart and gorgeous Sierra get in the way of doing his job. Because as the attacks against her escalate, crossing the line between business and pleasure could get them both killed.

  1. Mary Star says:

Whoa-ho, dude from Necessary Risk looks like the love child of Zac Efron and Wolverine!

  2. Heather S says:

Dreamspinner Press is having a sale? Oh, Lord. There goes the book budget for the summer!

  3. I loved When A Scot Ties the Knot. Highly recommend.

  4. Vicki says:

When my youngest was in kindergarten, the father of one of her classmates volunteered in the classroom in his off time. In his on time, he was a center for the Niners (three Super Bowl rings). He was such a lovely person that I totally one-clicked The Game Plan. Hope it lives up. And, btw, his wife told me that the quarterback was also a dreamy gentleman.

  5. Fran says:

I haaated When A Scot Ties the Knot – I usually like Tessa Dare’s books, but that one fell flat for me.

  6. Seb says:

I just saw that “The Unleashing” by Shelly Laurenston (which you guys speed reviewed as part of the review for “The Undoing” from the Call of Crows series) is only $0.99!

So, naturally, I nabbed it up off of my wishlist as soon as I noticed the awesome sale price, and ran over here to tell you guys. 😀

No idea how long the sale’s going to last, though. :/

  7. Qualisign says:

Just picked up “Her Backup Boyfriend (Sorensen Family)” by Ashlee Mallory for FREE. Mallory did an exceptional job with the pretend boyfriend/girlfriend, contrasting career (h) vs family (H) goals, following one’s moral compass vs getting ahead in a career (h), and more tropes. It’s free! And worth reading.

  8. cleocleveland says:

Longtime lurker dropping in to say that the blurb for Necessary Risk leaves out the most interesting part. The heroine is a spokesperson/advocate for a Planned Parenthood type group called Choices and she’s being harassed and threatened because of it. I picked it up based on the smexybooks.com review that mentioned that fact and I ejoyed it.

  9. Chris K says:

Cleocleveland thank you including for that. I have been actively searching for romance that had a pro-choice character ever since reading a Susan Mallery book that I threw across the room (the hero’s ex-girlfriend had an abortion because they were teenagers. The heroine describes her as a “horrible, selfish, thoughtless creature”)

Also I loved A Scot ties the Knot -stayed up late reading it last night 🙂

  10. Jenny says:

“The Game Plan” (and all the other books in the series) is sooooooo good! I also recommend Kat Latham’s London Legends series. It’s about a rugby team.
