I love Amy Poehler, but this didn’t work for me at all. What made her dead hilarious on SNL and ‘Parks&Rec’ was missing from the book. There was a hint of bitterness (maybe her divorce?), and her-over-the top stories about drugs and parenting never hit a punchline. She knows a lot of famous people; I got that, but even then she describes them with empty honorifics, so that her acquaintances and friendships come off as superficial name-dropping. I really enjoyed Tina Fey’s ‘Bossypants’ and so might have gone into this with the wrong perspective. Still like Amy, but maybe it wasn’t the right time for her to write a book.
