    Blurred Lines by Lauren Layne

Blurred Lines by Lauren Layne is 99c! This is a new adult romance with a friends to lovers/friends with benefits plot. I love the way Layne writes dialogue in her romances and many readers seemed to love that in Blurred Lines. However, some felt the heroine had a “not like other girls” characterization, which was a turn off. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

In a novel that’s perfect for fans of Abbi Glines and Jessica Sorensen, USA Today bestselling author Lauren Layne delivers a sexy take on the timeless question: Can a guy and a girl really be “just friends”?

When Parker Blanton meets Ben Olsen during her freshman year of college, the connection is immediate—and platonic. Six years later, they’re still best friends, sharing an apartment in Portland’s trendy Northwest District as they happily settle into adult life. But when Parker’s boyfriend dumps her out of the blue, she starts to wonder about Ben’s no-strings-attached approach to dating. The trouble is, even with Ben as her wingman, Parker can’t seem to get the hang of casual sex—until she tries it with him.

The arrangement works perfectly . . . at first. The sex is mind-blowing, and their friendship remains as solid as ever, without any of the usual messy romantic entanglements. But when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their friendship on the rocks for the first time, Parker and Ben face an alarming truth: Maybe they can’t go back. And maybe, deep down, they never want to.

  • Rules of the Game

Rules of the Game by Sandy James

Rules of the Game by Sandy James is 99c! This is a contemporary romance with a romance novelist heroine and a fake relationship plot. Readers warn that despite the cover and light description, some deep issues come up, which some readers liked and others found jarring. Have you read this one?

Kathryn West has it all – she’s a confident, bestselling author living it up in New York City. Too bad she doesn’t actually exist, and is only timid Maddie Sawyer’s pseudonym. Determined to attend her high school reunion with a man right out of one of her racy romance novels, she plots to find a sexy bad boy who’s up to Kathryn’s standards.

She finds Mr. Perfect shooting pool in a biker bar. He’s a blue-collar hunk who just happens to look great in leather. But the mysterious Scott Brady has some rules of his own: he won’t agree to her deal unless she poses as his girlfriend in front of his family and friends first.

As the reunion nears, Maddie tries to maintain her carefree façade, knowing she’ll soon face some old ghosts. She’s torn between her growing attraction to Scott and the nagging feeling that he’s hiding something important. Will she still want him when she finds out his secret? What about when he discovers hers?

  • Into the Fury

Into the Fury by Kat Martin

Into the Fury by Kat Martin is $1.99! This is a romantic suspense and the first in the BOSS, Inc series. The heroine is a model who the hero must protect. Readers loved the amount of action mixed with the romance, but some had a hard time buying the premise of the plot. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

A bodyguard, a bounty hunter, a P.I.—the men of Brodie Operations Security Service, Inc. are down for the job…

Sinners, whores, and sluts beware—your time is at hand: a faceless menace is threatening lingerie models on a cross country tour, and Ethan Brodie is there to defend and protect.

Ethan’s learned the hard way that beauty is no substitute for character. So even though Valentine Hart is one of the most breathtaking women he’s ever seen, he’s keeping his hands off and his eyes open. Or that’s what he tells himself.

Then one of the models is murdered, and the closer Ethan gets to the answers, the closer he finds himself to Valentine—and the hotter the pressure feels. There’s more to Val—more to the other girls—than he could have guessed. But one is keeping a secret that could kill them all.

    Valentine Heart? snort

  2. Chelle says:

‘Sinners, whores and sluts ….’ And lingerie models? Cuz lingerie models are sluts?
Nopey nope fror me. Saving my pennies for …. Something else.

  3. Carol says:

@Chelle The ‘Sinners,’ etc. line is from a threatening letter sent to the top ten models of a lingerie company who are about to leave on a big tour when one of the ten turns up murdered. This is why they need bodyguards. The models are portrayed as incredibly hardworking, smart and talented as well as beautiful (and not size zero). They also exhibit a normal range of sexual behaviors for which they are not dissed by anyone but the bad guys. This is not “make-you-sweaty” and keep-you-awake-all-night suspense but it’s quite good entertainment. If you’ve liked any of Martin’s other suspense, you’d probably enjoy it.

  4. Marci says:

(SPOILER) Trigger warning for Rules of the Game . Several reviews mention that the book contains the issue of rape.

  5. ck90 says:

Rules of the Game was over-the-top, after school special bad with a side order of shallow, annoying heroine.

  6. Sue says:

@Marci and @ck90, I wish I’d read your comments before buying and reading Rules of the Game! It was horrible, like reading two very different books with split personality characters. But thanks for the validation of my indignation over this book. What hot garbage.
